Man I love how sharp the gimping is on the non-lightweights steel liners. I think I’ll actually miss that whenever I decide to get a lightweight model lol.
One drawback for me on the manix LW is the lock mechanism is very stiff. This causes me to use the wire pocket clip under my fingers (3rd, 4th and 5th fingers) to get leverage to pull back the lock mechanism. I’ve put so much force on the pocket clip I ended up tweaking it just a bit in the first 2 weeks I had the knife. Now the pocket clip is not tight against the scales of the handle, making it somewhat loose in the pocket. Also, it can’t be removed to be bent back into position. This alone makes me wish I had gotten the G10 version instead.
For anyone that doesn't know! DLC is not for corrosion protection contrary to a lot of people's thinking. It does have some corrosion protection but very little at these ultra thin levels. This has been well documented on the syperco forums and in industry outside of knives. I live in florida and spend a great deal of time in the keys. Dlc knives in nonstainless steels will develop corrosion spots just about as quickly as the same steel in a satin. If your in a corrosive environment don't depend on DLC to protect from corrosion. A quick wipe down with bees wax once a week and your solid!
I wish the handle material was like the chaparral. Tai Chung does the lightweight handles much much better imo. Wish I got the G-10 Manix 2 instead of the LW.
I have a sage 5 lw and it is flawless but the handle does have a smoother less grippy texture and my dry old man hands slide on it but not with my manix 2 lw it has deeper more emphasized grip grooves that lock my hand in. I love both knives of course but might need some g10 on my sage 5 and don't feel the need to upgrade the manix.
@@DustinFlu interesting, I have a Sage 5 lw black and a Manix 2 lw translucent blue. The Sage is way grippier, the Manix is much smoother. Maybe the translucent scales are a different texture. I don’t like it at all, feels cheap and the checkering is too much. Perhaps the solid color Manix lw has a different texture. The Sage feels nice. Having said that, the G10 models feel far superior imo.
I’m excited to get my Rex 45 manix. I paid $80 more for my 940 in S30V and was not impressed. Sharpness out of the box and centering were poor. The omega springs also broke on me in a couple of months and Benchmade customer support left me holding the bag when I asked them to send some out. Ended up buying some from Etsy and solved the problem. I doubt the manix will have any of these issues and the steel is better.
Dude that's awesome! The Rex 45 manix is a heavy hitter and pretty reliable in my experience. The quality and functionality is absolutely there for the money. Appreciate you tuning in and commenting! God bless
You won't have any of those problems with the Manix especially the lock, instead of omega springs the Manix uses a coil spring, imo Spyderco is just a better company I've never had a QC problem with any of my Spyderco knives and I've owned and still own a decent amount, Benchmade on the other hand I can't say the same for. Congrats on the new knife I'm sure you're gonna love it 👍⚔️
Have a Endela K390 FRN scales. It feels also because of the handles like just a very solid tool. Only difference which I do notice with your knives is that the scales aren’t chamfered at all. In contrary to de Endurance/Endela etc. series. Guess that’s a real difference in comfort when using them.
Lynch NW clip is great on this model. Just grabbed a salt manix 2, and it has a deep carry clip. Wonder why Spyderco doesn’t do that with all the lightweights.
I'll have to check those out man! I love Lynch NW, they do great work over there. Idk man I wish spyderco did hahaha. Their clips need CQI for sure lol
I love all 3 of your light weight Mannix 2s I own 2 Mannix 2s 1 in G10 and 1 lightweight. Out of your 3 super steels does the MAXAMET stay sharp longer then the REX45 and the M4, im real curious.
Spyderco does a great job with their lightweight polymer scales, i just don't like polymer scales, i know Spyderco's polymer is plenty tough but it just feels cheap to me no matter what company's it is but i have to say that feeling cheap does not make it garbage, it's just personal preference, but i do have a Manix 2 LW in S110V that i use at work, it's comfortable to use and it performs great and i think most people will be more than happy with Spyderco's LW line because they really are great knives
Light can be good or cheap. My Griptilian is one of my lightest knives but my favorite. Just stick with the good brands and light shouldn’t be a problem. The manix is my next target thanks to your video. Great presentation. I can’t wait to get one. Thanks!
Thanks a lot dude! Yeah I completely agree. Can't go wrong with the good brands. Super pumped to hear that the video helped add a sweet blade to your collection bro. Appreciate you and the support⚔️ God bless
Lw means it has a specific reason.... not cheap or not.... it's simply fitting a use case. Spyderco has LW down to a science and does it right. If your buying a FRN model over a G10 model for the cost savings and don't expect it to lack some of the higger end feel then your gonna be upset. It's LW not to be cheaper, it's LW to be lighter weight for people that don't want a 4oz knife in them gym shorts pocket or hikers counting ounces.
I don’t think light weight has much relationship with “cheap”, as in poorly made”. Somewhere along the way, it seems some folks are connecting dots that don’t belong together. Poorly made knives can manifest in many ways, regardless of weight or bulk. In the same way that folks think that plastics make a knife cheap, yet the same folks who are into firearms have no issues with weapons that are partially made of plastics. There is no real relationship other than personal preference.
Great video. I am looking at 3 Manix 2 blades. The BD1N S30V and the White REX 45. In your opinion, which steel is the best overall for retention and ease of sharpening? Thanks!
Awesome dude! Yeah all those will serve you well however, for the value, dollar for dollar the Rex 45 is gonna be your best bet. Plus it will hold a long sharp edge for a really long time, and with its pretty good toughness it will do well in a lot of different cutting tasks. Me second choice will be the s30v cuz it's really well rounded with good corrosion resistance and good edge retention, but kinda chippy. So I'd say rex 45 man, I think you'll enjoy that one the most. As long as it's kept with a thin layer of oil on the blade to prevent corrosion, since rex 45 is not at all stainless lol. Appreciate you tuning in! God bless you. Numbers 6:24-26
I love my manix 2 LW. My edc choice whenever I’m athletic pants. I’d use the g10 version more often if they milled the liners. It’s too butt heavy for my liking. Spyderco has the best polymer handles imo. I don’t like it 9x out of 10.
I believe the G10 Manix with S30V steel is the only one that doesn’t have milled liners- all specialty steels/sprint runs (except the Cruwear/Micarta combo, I believe?) have them milled out. I don’t know why they don’t do the same on the standard model.
All the lightweights feel cheap to me. Btw, the manix 2 g10 jimped liners feel great to me… toughen up son! I couldn’t care less about saving an ounce! The native chief for instance is superb in the g10 version. I wish it had stainless liners too! All the lightweight versions they released this year is a giant disappointment to me.
My only Gripe with StNicks LW Exclusive . Is that on the spine in between the screws is a gap in the scales. It is annoying, and cannot be fixed, it is my only LW so i cannot compare.
Great video guy! I love your positive, fresh approach! I’m a huge Spyderco fan (I own 21) but not a single lightweight but after watching this I’m going to take a closer look. I also love some of your great responses to some of the “interesting” comments you’ve received here. Sub from me! Keep up the great work!
Thanks a lot sir! I really appreciate that, and the sub, brother. Excited to do more content on these newer offerings from Spyderco and other brands. Really happy to hear you got a kick out of it, makes it more fun knowing people like u support the work here😎 God bless
I'm liking it so far, although I haven't tested it out too much. I'll do a video in the future talking about the performance that I get out of it. I'll keep the channel posted brother 😎
Great if you don't mind a $40 knife's handle on your $200 knife. Spectacular for Spiderco's margins. So many possibilities for a class-leading, comfortable, light handle design, using the same material and processes, but no.😪
I think we're getting these for the Steel, not much for the handle. The cool thing about the market today is that companies like Original GOAT are doing LW Manix scales in aluminum and titanium. Now putting those blades on premium handles like those is truly my goal
When you squeezed the handles and they moved=CHEAP AF..if the scales flex,it cant be as reliable as g10,micarta, etc...btw yes i love my spyderco..just not this cheap a s s 💩
Guess what, tried to flex the G10 Manix 15V with the blade closed and bingo, it flexes quite a bit- I was surprised. You can even see the blade moving around when doing so. Can’t do that to the PM2 or Shaman.
hey brotha rayden, great vid n blades there , 1000% cool but i am tracking down a coldsteel 5 max blade here for trade/swap/.barter here if you know anybody or heatr of anybody send em my way please , i need/want it for e.d.c. here , thanks n talk soon bro > tom !
Just got my first Manix with the satin Rex45 and I definitely see many more Manix in my future! Such a great knife!!
Man I love how sharp the gimping is on the non-lightweights steel liners. I think I’ll actually miss that whenever I decide to get a lightweight model lol.
I love my pm3 lw. Its so insanely light and compact but still a badass knife. Definitely my most common edc

Interesting, what is the purpose of the coating, does it aid in slicing through materials?

Yeah bro the Taiwan Spydercos are next level man. Agreed
