Any questions? Comments? Suggestions? I want to hear from you, and I'll try answer them at the start of next week's video.
Thanks for watching, enjoy!
Listening to all these familiar parts coming together is magical. When the solo "squirmy" line came on, I felt... something. special. just this line alone painted a huge smile across my face
Also, I love how at 10:28 you just had to turn the rest of the mix on xD The hype is real
Good way to end a Saturday!
Sick! Glad I can be a part of it - please subscribe if you’d like to see more!
Instant sub. One of my favorite tracks from Hotline Miami 2. It's a dreamy, frission-inducing song that I can listen to for forever. Even though I know nothing about making music, this is super interesting and I can't wait to see more from you!
Oh man, that’s so cool! Frisson is a pretty serious compliment... Also doubly cool that you’re not a production nerd but still enjoying this - really glad you dig it, looking forward to getting the composition episode out next week!
Truly a work of art man
That’s very kind of you Evan, thanks for watching!
Benny, you're a genius! This is a masterpiece! Thank you for creating this. 🙂
Ah yes the best part of the song
Word! Thanks Noel, I’m glad you dig it. Please do subscribe if you want to get the next video on composition!
Awesome, I could watch hours of this, more pleaaase.
iiiiiiiit’s comin!
Can't wait to see the composition episode. I also love seeing your reaction to your older production choices!
Ha, yeah it’s kind of a strange experience - it’s like me saying to my less experienced self “I can see what you were *trying* to do there”...
Thanks a mil for watching, do sub for the next one if you haven’t already. Do you have any questions you’d like answered in the next one?
@@BennySmilesMusic I'm really curious to know what kind of artists inspired your compositional ideas for this track or the way you would have gone about deciding what to focus on and build around (I understand some of those things are very in the moment feel but who knows, maybe you can remember the mindset)
@@Sakunera Great question, thanks! I'll definitely work that into this week's video!
Sakunera! This week’s video is out, and I answer your question in it. Thanks again for your considered comment, I hope the answer is useful to you! ruclips.net/video/cQ7gKV0YJSE/видео.html
Awesome, time to get some new vsts
Nah, plugins aren’t the answer! What have you got already?
heya Mr Smiles, love this track and was very excited to see part 1 pop up in my subs the other day! This track introduced me to your music and I've since really enjoyed diving into your discography on Spotify.
Would also love to see a breakdown of Moonlight and, maybe more topical, When We Touch!
EDIT: oh, also please hit up iamthekidyouknowwhatimean to break down 'Run', my other favourite track from HM2 😃
That’s excellent, thank you!
Could absolutely do one on When We Touch, there’s some fun stuff going on with reverbs and autofilter in that one.
It would be really cool to feature some of the other artists! I’ll see what I can wangle...
Thanks for you comment
Man, sort of a gold mine of a breakdown for me as I love making synth/80's inspired music myself. I have always struggled with getting my music to really POP and sound diverse, and not muddy and flat. I have found watching this, and allot of other stuff, that there really seems to be no shortcut to getting a good, well mastered and balanced track. Just a shit ton of FX and EQ work and the right groove with a very good ear for things that may stick out to much, or not enough. Thanks for being open about how you make this stuff! I also had a question: when making these kinds of tracks, do you start out focusing on the drums, synths, or both?
Reddit?
Hell yeah!
Benny glad you're doing this song is really upbringing
Hey Dr. Scarecrow, that’s rad, I’m delighted you dig it. Please sub if you want to get the next one too!
Could you talk about your sound design when it comes to your drums, synths, and bass? Getting my sound design to sound dynamic and interesting is something I’ve struggled with.
Yes absolutely. Part 1 of this series covers the drums in depth, and you can find it in my Production & Music Theory playlist!
Awesome! Looking forward to it. Thanks for doing this it’s so insightful.
Totally my pleasure, it’s finally a chance to give something back to the community and I’m really enjoying the process too. Thanks for watching!
Very interesting stuff to watch, great work! Loved your track on Hotline Miami 2, one of my favorites in the game.
That’s awesome, thank you! Is there anything you’d like to see in the next video?
@@BennySmilesMusic off the top of my head nah, really interested to see the composition though.
@@PlankJunior Fair 'nuff! Looking forward to getting that one out, thanks again for your comment!
Fell in love with this track the moment I first heard it, honestly I just put the controller down to hear it on repeat. Thank you for going out of your way to break it down. subscribed!
What application are you using?
This is Ableton Live 8. Times have moved on since then, but I had to go back to that version to get the session to open properly
sickening but in a good way
Nice!
I love when a sound can be described as a physical texture and be spot on
