Hard to believe it will be 6 years already since that happened. The Moore, Oklahoma tornado that hit on May 20th seemed pretty bad as well. Reed’s message at the end has really motivated me when I go storm chasing or I have any personal problems in my life. That motivation at the end just adds the respect I have for Reed Timmer.
I cant believe its been almost 6 years already. I remember the news when it first came out. I was 13 at the time and didn't fully understand what had happened. But now having learned TWISTEX's history, who they were and what they aimed to do, it's very sad.
I grew up watching this series and it broke my heart when I found out about their passing. Part of my childhood is still with me as I’ve kept my interest in tornadoes alive. Even when I was younger I wanted to be storm chaser because of you guys. Now I’m a bit fearful of them, but every year I always watch tornado videos. You guys will always be a part of my life and I’m thankful that I grew up watching you, TIV, and Twistex. ❤️
Tim samaras is one of a few that really re-peaked my interest in storm spotting, he was also the person that made me interested in lightening research. Almost 7 years later and it seems like this day was just yesterday
Me too. I grew up watching Reed and his boys👦, chasing the F3 Tornado in Mulvane Kansas, the Throckmorton TX Tornado🌪️, tornado🌪️in Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦, and the F4 In Manchester South Dakota.
Been fascinated with Tornadoes since i was a kid, the El Reno Tornado was purely historic... its so sad that it claimed the lives of 8 people esp the Twistex team :( ... May their souls Rest in Peace. Take care always Reed and your team. You guys are heroes in my book.
Your saving lives Reed, you and your team. Tim Samaras ,Paul Samaras, Carl Young and Richard Henderson May be gone but they will never be forgotten. All of the chasers that do a job that terrifies 90% of the population, is a very significant sacrifice. You save lives every time you put yours at risk. 4:47 jeeeeez. "Go east and get south of it." It's crazy that so many pros thought the same thing and it still did so much damage and caused so much tragedy.
I bawled my eyes out when I heard about Tim Samaras and Twistex. I remember getting a book of his photos years ago and started following him. I found Reed because of Tim. I used to fantasize that I got to do a ride along with him during a chase. What a deep loss for the storm chasing and meteorologist communities..RIP.
Mike Bettes saying “if we had a smaller vehicle we’d be dead!” but not knowing that is exactly what happened to the Twistex guys. They all knew instinctively how bad it was, without knowing whom it would really claim.

As a fellow weather/storm lover I was crushed hearing about the death of Tim and his team I grew up following you and Tim. He definitely has the best seats for any storm. RIP
this still makes me catch my breath and wipe tears from my eyes, I remember watching this live and hearing about Tim, Paul Carl.....I was an avid follower of their chases and yours which was sparked when my city springfield, MA got hit in June of 2011 and came within half a mile of my home when it crossed the ct river, and was a literal stone's throw from work. Seeing all the videos people took of it really shook me just how literally close to home it got. RIP Twistex. Keep doing the good fight to keep everybody safe with every single new finding, and allowing us to ride the wind with you guys vicariously.
I could tell you were trying to hold your tears back when talking about the Twistex Team. I remember hearing about that, and that's when it sank in that the Tornado on May 31st was the worst Tornado Oklahoma ever had.
19:47 I sure hope it didn't kill anyone? Little did Reed know how haunting those words would been!🥺 rest in peace Twistex team and the others who lost their lives that tragic day!
Yes Reed "Timmer" is excitable and at times over the top but this video demonstrates the true passion that he has with storm chasing which is helping other peopleespecially when it comes up to a wreck or house destroyed by tornado he's always willing to put the chase aside and do what's right for those impacted by the tornado.
8:42 Those downed power lines very likely saved their lives. Reed just said to go a mile and turn south (on 81) which (knowing the path the tornado took) was a very bad idea. Also, that was probably right after the tornado claimed its first victims including storm chaser Richard Henderson.
I was heartbroken when I heard about Tim, Paul and Carl. I'd been following Tim's chasing since 1998 when I was 15 years old. I had so much respect and admiration for him.
Very sad & devastating day when the twistex team lost their lives. I think about them every time I watch a video about tornado's. My condolences to their families & friends.
Reed and those storm chasers are so fascinating! Really is a risky job doing what they do. Reed has a good sense about reading what he is looking at when it comes with storms. So quick on decisions and and knows what to and the very moments before things happen. Brovo!
they say storm chasing its one of the hardest professions to be in and to anyone who does it but more professional, collecting data and risking their lives etc to help others deserves the highest of awards, great work and thats from everyone here in England.
Reed, you crazy man... Thank you and crew for never letting up on the quest to understand. For all that wildness you endure, your work is invaluable, especially in the dark void left by the Twistex team. Brilliance such as that comes rarely in life and their loss is immeasurable. Please please take care. All of you. We need your work, and those live in the most dangerous areas are counting on you for a lifeline of education. Rest in peace Twistex, you will be ever missed.
I never got the chance to meet him, but Tim was my Uncle Pat’s brother in law and he would sometimes go with Tim on his chases. I never got to know him but from what I heard from my Uncle I knew he was a very good man and he absolutely loved what he did. I also knew that safety was his number one priority that he took very seriously so it just goes to show just how unpredictable these storms can be.
Tim, Paul and Carl all still live through you guys and through us. Thank you guys for all you do to help us understand these beasts more. I know Tim, Paul and Carl would want you guys to keep going. Rest in peace to all who were lost in these insane storms.

I think it’s so lovely that you got to see your friends one last time, it’s terrible that they died but from seeing all the documentaries Tim has done, he had such passion for it. If he could choose, I expect being killed doing what he loved would be ok with him, absolutely devastating for the family left behind though. I’ve just recently binged all these (thanks for putting them on RUclips) - I saw your Tweets about the probe recently & it sparked my interest to see what else you’ve done. Tim seems like he was an incredibly kind & gentle man, all you chasers seem like good people who genuinely want to help others. Best wishes Reed from England

It was excellent I had no idea that you were there when Mike Bette’s vehicle was hit by the tornado, I believe that he was grateful you were there to help him
I got into watching these videos a few years ago when I watched them make the tiv and tiv 2, and these people always inspired me, everyone who does this is so brave, these people give up their live for these things, and the deaths of twistex solidified these people as heroes
Man, oh man I was worried that Mike Bettes was killed in this crazy twister that ripped through the El Reno area and I saw it live on The Weather Channel as it was going on that day. God bless you storm trackers for keeping us in the loop and keeping us all safe and out of harm's way like this. You rock and I am a fan for life, Reed Timmer.
It definitely did save their life, on the other videos of this tornado it shows how it's direction shifted dramatically and if they followed it then we most likely wouldnt have them on earth with us anymore

I remember the El Reno twister I was north of okc heading south when the highway patrol stopped all traffic and said there was a massive tornado just south of us. And as we were setting there there was another trucker who decided not to stop and ended up getting blown over just a mile south of us. It was a sad day when I heard Tim Samaras and his team were KIA in that same storm. Hope you guys can bring his legacy back buy preparing others to be safer with a new show on storm chasing again! Good luck and be safe👍
Seeing this reminded me about the Weather Channel crew getting pulled in and thrown back down. Crazy story and then to see that the tornado was 2.6 miles wide?! I can't imagine.
You remember the May 03 outbreak? I was on a roadtrip to Kansas from Michigan going down I-80 in a suburban. A downed power line took us and a trucker off the highway. 5 mins later 13 tornados ran down the I-80 corridor where we would have been that night. Would have taken out me, my parents and 5 of my siblings. Sometimes it seems like guardian angels take down trees or power lines to save you. I remember watching this storm the day of and I didn’t realize how bad it was till the next day. Didn’t realize how close you guys came. Glad you made it through. I am really thankful you and so many in the chasing community were so open about lessons learned from this storm. It was really invaluable to me since I started chasing in 2013. This tornado made me bulk up my first aid kit for chasing, and get good advice from paramedics and firefighters on how to be a good volunteer first responder in these scenarios. Made me really focus on starting in areas I was very familiar with and calling in reports for unwarned storms. And I chased a lot safer, which is good because I had a small Volkswagen Jetta back then. Last year a cell I didn’t like started coming Southeast directly at our little trailer house and I had our 7 month old, cat and husband in the car sprinting southwest before it ever got near us thanks to lessons from chasing which all started with what I learned from watching Team Dominator and the Twistex Team. I really appreciate you taking the time to do education with your chasing so much. RIP Richard, Tim, Paul, and Carl.
I have been though one of these before I almost died broke a few bones dislocated my shoulder throwing up blood it was crazy but still alive because I saw the video so you are the reason why I’m still alive thank you reed.
Listen. I know I give you hell about your screaming in most of your videos but I thoroughly enjoy watching them. This was just a crazy downgraded EF3 tornado with vortices that were guessed to be over 300 mph. I'm glad you and your team got out of this unscathed. RIP to the Twistex family and all chasers that have died getting instrumentation and warnings out to improve detection and early warning systems that have saved soooooo many lives.

R.I.P. to Tim Samaras, his Beloved Son Paul(They IRONICALLY shared the same Birthday!) and Carl Young.
I remember watching this as a kid too.

“If we had a smaller vehicle we’d be dead” haunting when you think about what happened to Tim samaras

I’m very grateful for that and I appreciate each and every one of you! Thank You!
16:26 "If we had a SMALLER vehicle we'd be dead" Litterally at this moment the most eerie forshadow
Excatly, knowing Tim Samaras, his son and another team member were even in a smaller vehicle and just seeing, what it did to this bigger vehicle..omg. 😮😢
R.I.P Tim Samaras, Paul Samaras, and Carl Young… thank you for all you did to help increase warning times for us in tornado alley. You 3 will never be forgotten
4:47 jeeeeez. "Go east and get south of it."
It's crazy that so many pros thought the same thing and it still did so much damage and caused so much tragedy.
"I hope nobody died" me: *immediate sobbing*
I remember watching the weather channel that day and seeing the great tornado hunt van torn up and then hearing about Team Twistex. It was a sad day 😭RIP Team Twistex
As a fellow weather/storm lover I was crushed hearing about the death of Tim and his team I grew up following you and Tim. He definitely has the best seats for any storm. RIP
Godspeed, Twistex.
"If we were in a smaller vehicle, we'd be dead." --Mike Bettes
They didn't even know at the time. Chilling.
this still makes me catch my breath and wipe tears from my eyes, I remember watching this live and hearing about Tim, Paul Carl.....I was an avid follower of their chases and yours which was sparked when my city springfield, MA got hit in June of 2011 and came within half a mile of my home when it crossed the ct river, and was a literal stone's throw from work. Seeing all the videos people took of it really shook me just how literally close to home it got. RIP Twistex. Keep doing the good fight to keep everybody safe with every single new finding, and allowing us to ride the wind with you guys vicariously.
I remember when that happened. I’m from Massachusetts too but the north eastern coast part so no tornadoes here
RIP Twisted team he was a man of science and deserves a lot of appreciation for the data he collected and help with warning times
What happened
@@Maddielovesthesidemen they died in that tornado
I could tell you were trying to hold your tears back when talking about the Twistex Team. I remember hearing about that, and that's when it sank in that the Tornado on May 31st was the worst Tornado Oklahoma ever had.
Seeing the multiple vortices at 6:45 was WILD. I've never seen a tornado like that
19:47 I sure hope it didn't kill anyone?
My thoughts exactly, as close as he was to the north of it he'd probably been hit hard
"If we'd been in a smaller car, we'd be dead." Little did he know... ): Rip Tim, Paul, & Carl.
loving the 4k version. this was a bittersweet day for me. My daughter was a day old. I was still in the hospital with her. And watching this unfold.
I feel bad about Mrs Samaras she lost her husband and son at the same time ☹️
'If we had a smaller vehicle, we would be dead.'
This... hits hard
It really does…
Reed and those storm chasers are so fascinating! Really is a risky job doing what they do. Reed has a good sense about reading what he is looking at when it comes with storms. So quick on decisions and and knows what to and the very moments before things happen. Brovo!
This guy needs a belt, he is always having to pull up his pants.
He needs to get laid so he will quit screaming his ass off
He's wearing one in this, just not very effective lol
He doesn't need pants anymore. The tornado always ripped them off.
they say storm chasing its one of the hardest professions to be in and to anyone who does it but more professional, collecting data and risking their lives etc to help others deserves the highest of awards, great work and thats from everyone here in England.
I will always miss the work and enthusiasm that you and the whole TVN team put in.
Thankyou for everything.
I paid for these episodes when you released them. But am glad you put them out to the world. They deserved to be seen by everyone.
RIP Tim and the Twistex team. A huge loss never to be replaced :(

Such a sad and tragic loss. RIP Twistex team. 🙏 Thank you for your kind words Reed. Be careful out there. Your videos get my adrenalin going every time. 😱

I'm incredibly sorry for the loss of your friends Reed. I just had one pass last night, and it shouldn't have happened the way it did. I barely got to see any of Twistex's work, but what I saw was amazing. Keep doing it as long as you can and stay safe.

Thank you for what you do Reed. I was kinda dreading this episode rest in peace Twistex Team.

Leonardo Albuquerque it’s true but with these giant tornadoes it doesn’t help the it could give you an electrical shock
It definitely did save their life, on the other videos of this tornado it shows how it's direction shifted dramatically and if they followed it then we most likely wouldnt have them on earth with us anymore
also it ripped the hood off not the tornado.

So those downed power lines might have saved Timmers vehicle. They wanted to go east. Yowsa. Who knows where they would have ended up.

Thank you Tim For inspiring all of us RIP
I remember the El Reno twister I was north of okc heading south when the highway patrol stopped all traffic and said there was a massive tornado just south of us. And as we were setting there there was another trucker who decided not to stop and ended up getting blown over just a mile south of us. It was a sad day when I heard Tim Samaras and his team were KIA in that same storm. Hope you guys can bring his legacy back buy preparing others to be safer with a new show on storm chasing again! Good luck and be safe👍
tim and twist x were heros man ! so are all u chasers thank you for risking it all for science
Seeing this reminded me about the Weather Channel crew getting pulled in and thrown back down. Crazy story and then to see that the tornado was 2.6 miles wide?! I can't imagine.
I so enjoy rewatching these older episodes!!!! You do great work Reed. 👏
Reed, you my man have a Hugh Hugh Heart. God Bless you buddy.
