Jerry is a brilliant drummer. He's retired now. I saw them do this around 1980 and a little before that too and also in 2004. At that latter show Jerry still did a great drum solo and came out after to chat and sign my old Mashmakhan LP. What a champ and great musician!
I like how the guitar harmonies at one point kinda approximate the jazzy saxes in King Crimson's original version. However I notice that even 3 guitarists can't beat what Robert Fripp could do on just one! No shame in that though. I'm just happy that April Wine helped popularize a very cool song from the prog-rock canon.
Saw these guys open for Styx back in 80. This was incredible live. You didn't see too many drummers for an opening act launch into a drum solo. (didn't show it in the clip) Jerry Mercer blew everyone away.
Canada's guitar army. I think they blow away Florida's. You practice your instrument on a cold winter night instead of having sex on the beach. If you're going to cover King Crimson, cover it (some don't). That means playing all the hard parts. These guys do all of that and more. An excellent example of a pop band showing its technical talent. DK
