    This is our trawler life story.
    We retired early and decided to make a big change. We sold everything and moved aboard our 54' Cheoy Lee passagemaker, a “go anywhere in the world”, ocean going power boat.
    That was in 2014 and we have never looked back.
    Now in our late 50's we are free of work and we are living aboard and cruising our trawler full time.
    We have two additional crew members, feline brothers, Blake and Barkley. Yes, we have two brave (sorta) boat cats, on board!
    Join us and our crew, on our adventures as we explore new places, discover more about our trawler and what makes her work, and learn more about ourselves in our young retirement years. Our hope is to entertain and inspire you to pursue your own passions through telling our story of our cruising trawler lifestyle.
    Thanks for watching, subscribing, and liking Cruising Sea Venture!
    Best, Jim, Rosy, Blake and Barkley

      I think the largest seas we have been in are probably 12-14 ft seas. I thought these were 6-8 feet. At the time PredictWind said they were 8 feet on 8 seconds. Thanks, Jim

      So far we’ve been pretty lucky and neither one of us gets seasick. Sometimes we both feel a little nauseous at times though. Usually it just helps to focus on the horizon or lay down and often on a passage The feeling passes after a short while. We do carry the variety of seasickness medicines on board for guest that struggle with it. Thanks for watching, Jim

      Ryan, I believe the earlier 62’s did not have a bulb. If I am not mistaken, I believe everything above a 55 has them and for 55 or smaller its an option. Thanks, Jim

    You anchored quite far out from the fish dock in Drakes Bay. I usually anchor ~1/4 mile from there, in water ~12 ft. You also bypassed one of the most magical spots on the NorCal coast--Tomales Bay. TB is really the best anchorage on the NorCal coast, although crossing the Bar getting in needs to be timed right.

    Hi, Don't think I would have liked going the other way through those "sporty" waves , they looked pretty steep. Nordhavns are great boats. They had active fin stabilization and I think they were just fine.

  • @robjohnson2649
    @robjohnson2649 2 года назад +1

    What a leg, so did you have a chance to compare your ride against the Nordhaven and their fin stabilizer. Similar pitch and roll? Tracking you on your wed site. Hope your making those Nordhaven owners jealous with Sea Venture. Love the video and thanks for sharing this adventure with us.

    • @DanielC__
      @DanielC__ 2 года назад +1

      I’ve had 3 long cruises on Nordhavns. All in the PNW, all with hydraulic stabilization and all puke inducing roll machines. You can even see the extreme roll in this footage. They’re top heavy and stabilization is a challenge. The fit and finish is second to none and brand loyalty exceeds all others but for the best ride there are better choices.

      When I eventually own a Nordhavn 62 it will have old school paravanes.

    • @CruisingSeaVenture
      @CruisingSeaVenture  2 года назад +3

      Its hard to judge since we do not have the perspective of seeing ourselves. I think it just depends on the boat. We were cruising at 7 knots and keep in mind that active fins are less effective the slower you go, which is not the case with paravanes. We also had the advantage of having a bulbous bow, which this N62 did not have, which makes a difference in pitching. Nordhavn’s are incredibly capable boats. I think you have to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of each. We love our paravanes but at times I think about how nice it would be to just push a button. Thanks, Jim

    It looks like your Furuno RADAR display and navchart are showing different heading values. Is one set on true north and the other magnetic north? I try to set all my nav gear to magnetic. Avoids some confusion. Also set my autopilot to magnetic. Looked like a fun passage!

    • @CruisingSeaVenture
      @CruisingSeaVenture  2 года назад +1

      They are both set to magnetic but the heading sensors cum up with slightly different values. We really do not pay any attention to the heading sensor from the radar, since it the TimeZero nav system that is interfaces with the auto pilot. Thanks, Jim

      @CruisingSeaVenture  2 года назад +1

      They are made by EarTec. There is more info about them on our website: CruisingSeaVenture.com. You can hear other stuff just fine but it puts it all in the background where we like it. It allows us to focus on each other. Also, the double ear ones do not slide around and at least for me, do not feel like they could easily fall off. Thanks, Jim

    Helpful information, looks rough for a 38ft sailboat in spots,
    I was told too stay close to shore.

    • @CruisingSeaVenture
      @CruisingSeaVenture  2 года назад +1

      I personally would not do in an boat without stabilization. Wind conditions are often not favorable for sailing down the coast. How close you are to shore just depends on the forecast. For us it seemed the best conditions during this time was 40-50 miles off shore, except toward the end of the passage when the forecast was better closer to shore.

      I think it is hard to judge from the boat. For perspective, I am holding the camera about 9 feet off the water. I thought they were 6-8 feet high. PredictWind at the time said the sea state was 8 foot seas, 8 seconds apart. Most importantly, it was comfortable in Sea Venture the entire time. Thanks, Jim

I wouldn't allow my much loved and incredibly loyal dog to dictate where I sit (an animal that comes to you whether you're sick, injured, sad, happy, anytime and without being told to, unlike cats which are selfish) The saying "crazy cat lady" is such a true saying
