I think you made a very smart buy! You are a master at taking older equipment and making them look and work like new. It’s already a good looking frame and boxes. You were right when you said you have to make every kernel count and that white planter can space them in the ground as good as any brand. You’ve made a good move for your farming operation. Best of luck to you!!

Man, I’m excited for you. 6100 is one hell of a planter. Between the planter accuracy, your timeliness bot because of size and being able to plant any which way you need to, and going to liquid…you’re yields are gonna jump.
Had someone tell me one time 36 inch rows went out with the outhouse. I still plant 36 because I do mostly hay and wider wheel spacing helps not run on windrows and more stable on hills without needing duals. It's great that you have the ability be able to narrow the row spacing. We used to have a IH 56 that was adjustable from 28-40. We moved it from 30 to 36 when we bought it. Now I have a JD 7000 and if I wanted to go narrow I'd have to buy a different planter since narrow and wide rows are different frames.
We narrowed up our 4 row 5100 and completely went over and replaced, brushes, down pressure springs, openers, etc. after 10+ years of sitting. almost all the parts either came from shoup or our AGCO dealer. Very reasonable prices and great parts availability, you won’t be dissatisfied. Can’t beat a white planter
The 6100 White planters are great planter. Years back, before we got the jd7000 we had corn custom planted with a 6 row 6100 and the guy had the splitter cart to go with it. If a 50 hp David Brown cab pull 4 rows with fertilizer with little effort, your 1950t should have no issues pulling that(given you don't try to notill with it, then things might be a little interesting). The only possible fly in the ointment is the rubber tire closing wheels can struggle to close the seed trenches in heavy clay(I don't remember if you have some), but they generally work really well. Those slide on covers are a brilliant idea in my eyes, regardless of the metering system. Think what you may, but dad fills his 500gal sprayer with a garden hose. Nice planter!! I worked for a neighbor in the early 2000’s that had one that was a 12x30 with liquid and we pulled it with a 105 mfd , pulled it great!!! Love the videos !!
Good luck with your new planter. We have a 4 row 5100 we cut down from a 6 row due to an accident on a road move in the dark.Gave scrap price for it, my old 3010 gas knows its back there. They are awesome planters after you figure them out, however there is a slight learning curve with them.
Had the 12 row version of it brand new. They are a decent planter, folding circuit can be finicky at times. That is mainly the reason we got rid of ours years ago. Did a decent job with spacing, and seed depth. Very simple planter not much to go wrong with them. We always took the pto pumps off and used the tractor hydraulics. They require very little hyd flow. Usually planted at 1300-1500 rpm.
We are in Northern Illinois and we use no starter. Have done trials over 40 years and other than making the corn look really nice, their was no yield difference.
Agree with you on spreading urea on the fields we went back to putting it back through planter we use our 1950T or 105 to pull our eight row plus going from 4 to 8 made a hell of difference on time nice looking planter good buy
@@Oliver66FarmBoy I have several Oliver and white manuals I got with a bunch of other manuals I bought the other day. Lot of plow and chisel plow manuals and a 2-105 owners manual all in pretty decent shape. Also a couple Sears lawn tractor manuals. I would be more than happy to send them to you I know you like manuals as much as I do I love to look threw them!
I just knew last week when you said the 4 row corn head was sticking around, there was probably an 8 row planter coming. I grew up around a 5100 and worked for a guy with a 6100, both 12 rows. White makes one of the best planters out there, as far as I'm concerned. Sounds like you're making some big steps forward, good for you.
Around us (in Illinois) we try and get anhydrous in the ground so we don't have to run starter fertilizer. Nice plant by the way, we had a 6100 series planter for almost 20 years and it served us great!
Congratulations on the new planter. Looks really good shape. That clip you found on the driveway is part of a grease gun holder that mounts on equipment. Thanks so much for taking time to video and share I always look forward for your videos.
Years ago (several) in between all our spring madness I was recruited by the neighbor that was way behind to do some planting. I convinced him to rent the county planter and tractor for 2 days. To my advantage it was new and something different. Brand new 6/11 ( 6100) white hooked to a 3090 Massey. Very nice planter, and to my surprise the tractor was as well.
Sweet! Nice outfit. One of the most accurate planters ever made, form the factory. Only thing that may be better are "Precision Units" (my opinion). The Whites are great planters. Looking forward to you preforming your magic, like you do.
Neighbors have a 12 row planter very similar to that. It always lays down a picket fence stand of corn and even the beans they do with it look evenly spaced. I was hoping you’d fix up that 8 row 543 that you got years ago.
In Iowa we do everything in fall and spring 75/25. Fertilizer is cheapest, gets cold enough to stabilize NH3, soils warm up fast in spring, and it’s a gigantic pain in the ass with starter fertilizer planting 80+ acre fields
With liquid fertilizer depending on planter size should be able to plant between 40-80 acres on a fertilizer fill. My buddy can plant 60 with his 12 row.
Here in Illinois, I myself run a Kinze 16 row planter with no fertilizer setup, the main reason is that it is not really needed in our general area, and just the money for more liquid fertilizer, really its just another money bucket. So basically we just put solid fertilizer, do tillage, then plant it. This aint really an answer to your question, but this should give you an idea.
Those are great planters. Ran whites from day one. Setup right that planter will plant just as accurate as a brand new white. Word to the wise those planters like round seed ….. size doesn’t seem to matter but round seed is what you want. They came out with a plate for square seed but they don’t work as good as rounds. Take seed brushes out and put them in a bucket of hot soapy water and clean them good and they will come back to life. Don’t leave plates in between seasons either. Watch micro switch’s in fold mechanism they can be troublesome but easy to change.
A buddy of mine used to pull a 6 row white planter with a Ford 5000 for years. 6 corn 11 beans. I guessing same model as urs. They bought it new in 93-95. Always looked like a nice planter compare to that Deere we had🤣😂 Nice purchase 🤙👍🤙🍺🍻🍺
We have a 12-30 6180 with liquid like that. It works very well for us in our no-till system. You'll think you died and went to heaven. We put down 18 gallons of starter: 11.4 gallons 28%, 5 gallons 10'34'0, 1/2 zinc, 1/2 borin,1/2 sulfur. You'll like the liquid better than the dry. We pulled ours with a 2-105, your 1955 won't know it is back there. Make sure you make a coo l le of jumpers for the switches on the lift and twist cylinders.
We’ve used a white planter for 15 years. You will enjoy the simplicity. I think you have to go back to the time the planter was built to explain no fertilizer. Farms where getting larger and pounding out the acres was the goal. Times an data have changed so you know the the benefits of planter application is very important over the extra time it takes. Good luck with your new purchase.
Congratulations on the purchase! A word of advice would be to scrap the squeeze pump and get a chain drive John blue. Good pumps and easy to operate. Liquid will be a good option for you. You can run micro nutrients into your starter and that really helps our corn.
We bought a 16 row 1770 Deere with 2 John Blue chain drive pumps on it. One pump was froze up and the other wore out. We where able to put 2 john blue electric pumps on for what it would cost to rebuild one of the piston pumps. Absolutely love the electric pumps on it.
I'll try to answer the fertilizer question to the best of my knowledge. Here in my area of north central Iowa we broadcast spread granular fertilizer in the fall, some in the spring, and spray 32% with pre herbicides to cover the basis. I haven't seen granular starters here in a long time due to NH3 and 32% being very popular. And one farmer in particular does side dress 32% while planting corn and it works out very well for him, but he also side dresses throughout the growing season with his Hagie and NBT.
Nice looking planter haven't ever seen a 6180 8 row always seem to be 12 row units around me. If your running in worked dirt I wouldn't worry about having all 4 springs on each unit that's more of a notill setup.
You will love that planter . And back in the late 80s the got away from starter fertilizer here in west central I'll and went to ammonia but it is making a comeback due to imput costs they can veriable rate it to keep cost under control
southern IN here but the farm i worked for claimed that putting starter threw the planter was just pain in the ass to them and just spread most the fert in dry form and then on the round up and pre emerge they would throw 28 or 32 in with that
Got a 5100 six row notill sitting in the barn we would sell. Haven’t used it for 7 years. That’s a big upgrade from 540. The Oliver will easily pull it. Pull our 8 row JD 7200 vac with the 2-110 and doesn’t even work it. Yes you need more storage.
With corn cotton we used the fertilizer tanks for just that purpose, but with peanuts they were used for liquid innoculant and the nozzle was moved from the coulter to in the row....
I have a 12 row 6180 with liquid fertilizer on it. I pull mine with a ford 9700 and with 6 tanks full of fertilizer its a hand full on hills. Mine came from Indiana and I don't have $10000 in mine either even with shipping. You definitely want to keep the down pressure springs on hand. There the only thing I have really had much problems with.
6100 series White planter is probably one of the best planters around. Good score. And she's got the no-till cultors on if you ever wanted to go that route
Man you've got all the toys! Made ya a good purchase there I think. I'm waiting on the people that want to ask how much you paid for it, when its really none of their business. Lol
I was having trouble getting dry fertilizer through the planter hoppers and skipped it for the last 4 years until this year I put a liquid system on. I think its definitely worth it, put 15g of 28 and a couple of 10-34-0 with a quart of zinc. I just put the tt300's on it, just a tube that pisses it on behind the closer wheels. I think all that liquid shit they started putting on the dry fert is what caused the flowability problems for me. Agrotain and Instinct, even if they didn't put it in I think it stuck in there blender. I got a 385 deutz 6rn but I put deere finger units on it last year because the parts were getting expensive for the oddball units.
Worst part of the whole planter is the micro switches for the wheel turn and lift on the frame. Buddy’s grandpa bought a 6180 12 row new with dry and it seems like 2-3 times a year they have to fiddle with them to get it folded up then it’s fine
Nice Planter. I don't know why we don't have many planters with starter setups here in Iowa, just not as common. Been trying to find a decent 12 row Kinze, Deere or White planter that's setup for liquid and full no-till to stick on the 3294 as it has enough hydraulic capacity to run multiple fans and circuits. That 1950t won't notice it behind it I'll guarantee that.
I have FS put 32 on with my burn down spray. I no till everything. Seems like in my area of IL no advantage to pop up juice. Other guys are anhydrous, i hate the stuff. Family friend lost eye sight to it. I get 258 to 225 corn and 60 to 78 beans. With out pop up. I farm bottom ground and timber soil/hills.
You will get better germination, seed placement, and resulting yield improvement. With the inflated costs of inputs, every nickel will count. Congrats!!!
As far as the starter fertilizer it's basic economics, if you can make enough bushels to pay for the starter your fine. Dry fertilizer is cheaper than liquid, I just put a little more plow down. I'm real consistent at 200 bushel corn. Been using a 5100 for 20 years and dad had one with the individual blower motors before that.
Talking to a tire guy around me he said that tires are coming down to the point it's not when you can get it it is what you can get. We try to run Carlisle for implement tires, but can't get them and what we can get is 115 per tire. Can't hardly find a 18.4-38 Firestone and when you do its 900 per tire.
Well 115 a tire isn’t to bad and it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than sitting on the side of the road with a blow tire and a messed up rim. And 900 for 18.4 firestones isn’t bad at all. When I did the tires on my 1955 the radials I put on it were 1250 a tire and the bias plies were 1100. All in all you don’t have much to complain about.
Pretty soon this channel will have to be called- White Oliver66Farmboy................or would that be considered being racist? LOL That's a pretty nice planter and a really nice upgrade for you. Pretty cool. BTW- if you're interested, the 8600 Ford was just a tick over 110 pto hp.
starter fertizer was big in the 60s and early 70s most farmers put on dry Pand K and used anhydrous and some side dress with gas or liquid liquid NPK with liquid herbicibe with a floater was big in the 70s but without monitors appilication wasnt the best!! so starter was petty much a thing of the past by mid 70s l started farming in 1968 and never used starter thats my 2 cents worth LOL!! l be watchin!!!
@@Oliver66FarmBoy it will look good on there to a cab be nice tho to leave monitor and control box in all time . I have to say I have never seen a white planter that folds that way
That looks to me like a great step forward and upgrade for you and suitable for future growth for your farming activities at what sounds like a most reasonable purchase price. I'm sure that making the row width alterations you want will be quite a lot of effort and time and will highlight where some necessary replacements and repairs are required but I have no doubt that you have the tools and skills to get it done. However to get it and the T fixed for this coming Spring will put you under quite a lot of pressure. I like your thinking also about the move to liquid fertilizer in general. Does the new-to-you sprayer match for boom width with this planter?
1950T with duals on it with thay planter would be sweet. Now correct me if im wrong, but i remember you got some saddle tanks longgggg time ago from an auction. Do you still have those? Itd be cool to have saddle tanks on the T for more fertilizer capacity. 80s/90s looking setup for sure lol congrats on the upgrade

Should be an easy planter to sell.
Cool video Ethan, it's always pretty exciting for an upgrade on a piece of equipment, happy Thanksgiving too
With corn cotton we used the fertilizer tanks for just that purpose, but with peanuts they were used for liquid innoculant and the nozzle was moved from the coulter to in the row....
The piece you picked off the ground looked like part of a grease gun holder.
HELL YEAH BUDDY!!!!!! congrats!!!!!!
Those springs didn’t look like the greatest design in my opinion.
Looks good. I guess by not having fertilizer on it and being in a shed sure helps keep the paint and overall condition looking great.
It was a well kept unit. Most of the stuff you find out of Illinois is though.
6100 series White planter is probably one of the best planters around. Good score. And she's got the no-till cultors on if you ever wanted to go that route
Would have to get no till openers for the fertilizer to make it truly a no till planter.
@@Oliver66FarmBoy couldn't tell in the video if it did or not.
Awesome I feel like I got a new planter
Man you've got all the toys! Made ya a good purchase there I think. I'm waiting on the people that want to ask how much you paid for it, when its really none of their business. Lol
I’m sure it will happen.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching
Agrotain is nasty stuff. It will even hang up in a spreader if you let it set to long.
Worst part of the whole planter is the micro switches for the wheel turn and lift on the frame. Buddy’s grandpa bought a 6180 12 row new with dry and it seems like 2-3 times a year they have to fiddle with them to get it folded up then it’s fine
I’ve heard that. Nothing I can’t deal with.
Better get your wallet out if you want a kinze.
@@Oliver66FarmBoy They are proud of them that's for sure.
Dad almost got killed by anhydrous when he was about my age. I’ll never use the stuff.
Early 90's!Good score!Should help you out.
Yep
Good thing your barn didn't get built last summer. Or early this one lumber is back down more reasonable.
Yep
You will get better germination, seed placement, and resulting yield improvement. With the inflated costs of inputs, every nickel will count. Congrats!!!
Yep
As far as the starter fertilizer it's basic economics, if you can make enough bushels to pay for the starter your fine. Dry fertilizer is cheaper than liquid, I just put a little more plow down. I'm real consistent at 200 bushel corn. Been using a 5100 for 20 years and dad had one with the individual blower motors before that.
Starter fertilizer isn’t about yield. It’s about getting the plant mature faster to improve dry down and get in the field a little sooner.
@@Oliver66FarmBoy sure ok.
I think you need a bigger shop for all your new toys in looking good buddy be safe out there your buddy from Nebraska
For sure.
Study after Study says that starter does not pay in the I states. In your more northern soils it may pay.
Nice planter I've been white planters for ever I'm thinking the best planters made
Yep
If you can get the 105 going it will pull that planter great! We pull a 6112 with a 2090 case in no-till
It’s going on the T not the 105.
Nice looking planter, when are you gonna put up your grain bins?
One of these days.
Now you need agleader autosteer to go with the planter.
If you know how to drive you don’t need auto steer.
Father in law pulled 8 row IH with his 2-105, no sweat.
Good looking set of planters do you think it it will be better than the 8 row Oliver planters you got before
It’s a 20 year newer air planter so yea by a lot.
You might better get a rebuilt kit coming ive been waiting a month on mine no one has main bearings for the 310s that I’ve found
Interesting
6000 series are a good planters obviously you never used a Cyclo planter in ur life that being said looks good man👍🏻
Cyclo planter is a contradictory term. More like a cyclo spiller.
Huh. I thought they were smaller than that.
starter fertizer was big in the 60s and early 70s most farmers put on dry Pand K and used anhydrous and some side dress with gas or liquid liquid NPK with liquid herbicibe with a floater was big in the 70s but without monitors appilication wasnt the best!! so starter was petty much a thing of the past by mid 70s l started farming in 1968 and never used starter thats my 2 cents worth LOL!! l be watchin!!!
Interesting
I was always told figure 1,000 -1,200 lbs/row for the average weight of a corn planter. At least on planters of that age.
Probably about right.
Man that look nice on that new to u 105 white
It’s going on the T not the 105.
@@Oliver66FarmBoy it will look good on there to a cab be nice tho to leave monitor and control box in all time . I have to say I have never seen a white planter that folds that way
Nice upgrade👍🏻
Thanks
That looks to me like a great step forward and upgrade for you and suitable for future growth for your farming activities at what sounds like a most reasonable purchase price. I'm sure that making the row width alterations you want will be quite a lot of effort and time and will highlight where some necessary replacements and repairs are required but I have no doubt that you have the tools and skills to get it done. However to get it and the T fixed for this coming Spring will put you under quite a lot of pressure.
I like your thinking also about the move to liquid fertilizer in general.
Does the new-to-you sprayer match for boom width with this planter?
It will cover 16 rows so 2 passes with the planter.
Don’t want the tractor that heavy.
Now you need a bigger building
