Steigers (inventors of the Steiger tractors-my neighbors) had three 5297 Minneapolis Moline combines back in the day. Those had 383 Chrysler V-8 engines. With the twin straight pipe exhausts, we could hear them miles away when they were operating. They later traded them for two 760 Massey Ferguson combines.
Jake really knows his stuff on this particular subject. It's really cool to see that he has put effort into keeping that old-timer running to this day. It couldn't have been an easy task accomplishing that!
Jake Ziegler - this is great! I am so happy for you getting this interview. Good job Jake! I can not think of anyone more deserving of the honor of being interviewed by BTP. best 2U always Man! :)
I subbed to Jake's channel a bit more than a year ago; for anyone reading these comments, I recommend it highly! Among other things, he's a super mechanic. He just finished re-building an IHC 504 for a guy, and you can watch the whole series to see just how he did it. You learn a lot watching Jake!
My older cousin owns all Oliver Tractors and a Combine which this was his last one. He retired in 2005. His wife is still with us and those old machines are appreciating I told her. Wonderful family.
That's a great video. I've never run an Oliver, but my Dad used to tell me that they built really good machinery. That was high praise from Dad because he was John Deere man through and through. Thank you for making these wonderful videos.
+Gregory Creech neat story. Thank you for watching. Oliver made very good machines. The company's biggest struggle was that they never had the dealer network that John Deere and International Harvested had. Oliver always remained a smaller brand. They had the machines to match the big companies but not the strong organization to build market share.
Now that's a cool old combine, you don't see them everyday. One guy around the corner from me still runs an Oliver combine, I'm not sure what model though, along with several Oliver and White tractors. I never realized how big a 7800 is though if it compares to a 915 or a 7700. It would be really cool to see it side by side with the IH and JD machines for comparisons sake. Great video BTP and thanks for keeping the old girl going Jake.
We ran a 5 row 30" on a Deere 6600 for a couple years. We made it by adding a row to a Deere 444 corn head. If Deere had made a 5R30", it would have been numbered 543. Thank you for the video, to both BigTractorPower and Jake!
Buzzbox3rd Yes. White bought them out and used to profits from them to keep their truck line afloat. It was the management that caused their downfall, not the equipment, like most people like to claim. Had white never bought them it's more than likely you would still have seen Oliver and cockshutt today.
Nice combine! We had the White version of this which came after our 431 Cockshutt. Eventually the White was sold off since our 1482 replaced everything else for a long time. Then came the 1680 then the 2188. I still miss these old Cockshutt derived combines. They were quite the units in their day.
Great video as always! I didn't get the chance to go this year. Hopefully I'll be able to go in 2019 and maybe I'll bring our IH 1086 tractor with a IH 490 disk harrow for the tillage demos.
My great grandfather bought a White 7700 combine which was very similar to the Oliver. We operated til 2001 when we sold it for a Case IH 1620 combine trust me it was a nice upgrade. We are still running the 1620 with on 1900 hours.
Allis Chalmers must have used Oliver steering wheels in there black belly tractors. Good think some of this older equipment is in good hands like Jake or you would never see any of it
Wish he put his chanel in description love old iron being used theas old combines were such investment that they were mostly garaged and mantained its funny now they seem so slow and out dated good thing is small little farms can get them for few grand and handel still beter then pulling 3 head copper behind the old tractor .
Do these guys get any money for showing these tractor. It must be expensive to show something like that because you have maintenance on the show piece, then the big truck and trailer to get it to the shows, etc.? Thanks to Jake for a nice tour of his combine, very cool....
For sure on expensive. I can't fathom what it costs to rebuild a large tractor or in your case Combine and in other cases, get it to the show and take it home. My hat is off to you that show this equipment and demonstrate it, etc. It allows people in other walks of life to see this marvelous equipment, and in some cases talk with the owners. I'm a retired Jobbing Machine Shop owner, so things like tractors and trucks and the mechanics there of enthuse me. Thanks very much for your reply Jake. And again, thanks for taking the time of touring your Oliver Combine, that is some piece of equipment and I'm sure you are proud to own that fabulous piece of farming history on wheels.
+Minnesota oliver and deere 2017 has been a good year to meet other farm RUclipsrs. I got to see Ryan from How Farms Works twice this year, Mike Less, the Iowa Dairy Boys and Jake Zeigler. There are two more RUclips channels you will see from the Half Century Show here on Big Tractor Power. I hope to have a chance to see OLF sometime.

+defuse56 thank you for watching. Jake is a good guy and it's great to keep the classics going.
+bigtractorpower I so agree! Thanks for all you do for farming! A pleasure to watch your videos, hoss.

+45Deere9500 that is very cool about the 543. What made you go to a 5 row vs a 6 row? What size and brand of planter did you run?
Always think it's cool to see 2 subscriptions come together to make a video.
+PA Farms it is fun meeting other people you watch on RUclips.
I added 2 new subscriptions today based on this video.
Thank you.
I really love these big, sweet combines!
My little anthropomorphized cartoon character, is based on an Oliver 7800.
Jake is the man!! Always fun seeing what he's got going on.
Great interview. What's really neat is one part of the Cockshutt factory that built them is still being used. Really liked the video
Red Iron Acres really? What do they build there now?
Jake Ziegler It's some sort of metal working business now. When I'm down there next time I'll send you pictures
Red Iron Acres ok great!
Is it true that White was the cause of the decline of Oliver and Cockshutt ?
Buzzbox3rd Yes. White bought them out and used to profits from them to keep their truck line afloat. It was the management that caused their downfall, not the equipment, like most people like to claim. Had white never bought them it's more than likely you would still have seen Oliver and cockshutt today.
Great interview BTP and well done Jake!
I like the makeshift sensor attachment that detects a rotational failure. Clever and simple. Necessity in the mother of invention. No doubt.

Awesome footage!!!!!!, we have to get our 7600 out there sometime!!!!!
+C&J FARMS thank you. Just subscribed to your channel. Neat to see your 7600. First Oliver 7600 I have seen outside a brochure.
This combine seems to have higher clearance than most other combines of the time
Our white 7800 would shoot flames out the straight pipes cool to see at night
BTP - great job on the interview and the editing of the video. thanks.
+Soybean Farmer thank you for watching.

Good looking combine.
+Nicolas Orozco it's a great classic to see working.
That is a great piece of machinery.
I have a 8650 pulltype white combine. Very good conditions
I really wish Oliver could have stuck around. What does everyone think they would have had by now? Tractor/combine?
He's cruising right along
Étonnante machine👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏
Great video & interview. I liked how you edited it all together. Did you get with any other RUclipsrs for interviews? Stay safe.
+crslyrn I will have a few more interviews to share.
COOL!!!! I'll be looking for them.
One cool combine
They are.

Thanks to Jake for a nice tour of his combine, very cool....
Pete_ Hine_Of_PA no just show it for fun. I'm not very far from this show so I just drive it. It can be a little bit of an expensive hobby

Very cool
my grandfather had one of these...
+onelonleyfarmer that is very cool. Did you have an Oliver/MM dealer in your part of New Jersey?
Dang that thing is shiny...Probably built better than a 1680 CIH
Sweet video man
+Hunter Farms thank you for watching.
A children's of the cornn 2 525 oliver combines
Why do they let the corn get that dry?
+Omg Panda it is just for the machine harvest demonstration. They don't really care about the yield.
bigtractorpower thank you.
Where would you find new parts for Oliver combines
From a junked one. It is harder to find parts for a 50 year old Combine.
Tell me about it, I’ve got three of them that are that age
I do love a 7800 and just a idea you should interview oneloeyfarmer.

+69druth thank you for watching.
Isn't this just a rebadged John Deere 6600?
