@@Deadsmegma Frictional is a very experimental, uncompromising company. They get an idea for what they want to make and stick with it. This works in their favor a lot but sometimes they don't stuck the landing.
The meat gave me an incredible moment with how well built the systems of this game are. I had a full item box due to old RE habits of never using anything, and I had left two pieces of meat on the floor in my safe room. After coming back from maintenance one time, I saw a line of rats going down the arsenal stairs from the safe room, and I realized the rats don’t just eat meat near them, they will eventually find their way to any meat left out, which was amazing to see.
More horror games should be immersive sims. I barely finish most modern games but once I realized how systems driven The Bunker was I couldn’t wait for a second playthrough so I could think, plan, act differently.
Being able to distract the beast with sound or meat, opting to burn bodies and prevent rats from coming back, circumnavigating doors or breaking them down, dragging explosives/gas canisters into choke points, blocking monster holes with furniture, using an inventory slot for the gas mask and using gas for area of denial-there’s all kinds of options I never really tried during my first play through, and a lot of it is enabled by using the physics systems that Frictional’s been maturing since their Penumbra days.
Tbh, what I liked the most about the game is how well they balanced the guns. Like, I know in most games, most people don't get scared because "too much guns/ammo" by the middle of it, or they get annoying after a while from the usual running simulator in the style of Outlast and such, but here I feel like they just got a perfect balance that not even Alien Isolation managed to get: they are powerful and useful, but every bullet count, and every missed shot truly hurts, and you never reach a point where you really feel powerful for having them; they are really just another tool in your arsenal, as I feel it should be in more survival horror games
I like how each item in the game takes a certain time to use and require more than one button push, like if the gun is half loaded you have to press the detent several time until you get a bullet
Maintenance section was one of the last places i had to go in my playthrough. I really had no means of distracting the rats on the way there, so first time i came up with the idea - i made noise with flashlight until monster emerged, this scared the rats away, then i shot 3 times at the monster, and while he was fleeing, i managed to get into the maintenance. Unfortunately, i did die there, but explored the place enough to make a plan in my head, which is just to grab as much fuel as possible and also make some progress on main quest. On my second attempt i decided to be more radical and instead of distracting the rats, i outright killed them with grenade that i was too scared to spend before. 20 mins after, happy and full of loot i came back... just to see the rats feasting on the corpse once again. It was truly unexpected as i thought they die for good, but monster was on my ass, so i had to just jump over them, getting mandatory damage and running to the safe room as fast as i can. Later, of course, i healed myself and all, but this moment is why i really like the game and will definitely do a few more playthrough. Truly tense management of resources and game constantly reminding you that yes, you may have some bullets or grenades, but any safety you have is temporary.
If you don't know yet, here's a tip on dealing with rats that I learned after doing a full completionist hard mode run (with no deaths): Gas grenades are your best friend, as long as you have the gas mask which is fairly easy to get. They can not only deter the beast, but they can kill the rats and will keep them away from the corpse for longer periods of time than any other conventional way (beside burning the corpse). Plus, they can fill up entire rooms, giving you plenty of space around the rats. Not to mention the game tends to be very generous with gas grenades as long as you don't trigger the traps and instead steal the grenades from them (using the bolt cutters, you can cut the wires to traps). It gets better when you realize gas grenades have NO other use then, well, deterring the beast and rats. Grenades can be used for doors and walls, the gun can be used for the beast and locks, and fire is for rats and the beast (not including fuel for the gen). Gas grenades are the cheapest, most anti-rat utility in the game.
@@fxdefiancy ay, thank you a lot, will defo use it during my hard mode run. I did have gas mask in my first playthrough, but after i basically killed myself with poor gas grenade first time i used it, i was sort of scared to use it xD
@trueneutral5508 Yeah, the gas grenades can definitely be nasty if you don't play them right. Though, even with everything I said, don't abuse the gas grenades. On hard mode, it's best to conserve every resource you get. This is so you can get through the harder areas easier (like maintenance and the arsenal). I found many ways around the rats on my normal run, like tanking damage because I had a nearly infinite supply of bandages. It conserved resources and gave me space for more important items like grenades, bolt cutters, etc. Everyone has a playstyle, there's many ways to go about this game, so whatever works for you, you should go for it. Good luck on your run. :)
Another tip for clearing rats (atleast temporarily) is to use bricks. bricks are god tier in my opinion they can smash open doors, break locks, destroy wooden shelves in the arsenal and if you throw them at rats you can scare them off for a moment and the best part is unlike using the brick to break down doors, hitting rats with a brick doesn't break it after a certain amount of uses so if you have a brick you can get through the maintenance tunnel with little issue and without using any supplies or tools. the only issue is having to find and bring a brick down to the maintenance tunnel which isn't a big deal but not something you can do in a rush.
There's a note in the game that mentions that the rats won't eat burnt bodies. It's not a direct tip to the player, but more of a throwaway line in a note. I had forgotten about it until I kept running into a group of rats that blocked the path to a major area of the game. They were always feasting on a dead body at this junction and would only scatter if the monster was near or I used an inventory item (Torch, grenade, gas grenade, etc). However, they always came back later. I recalled the note from earlier about the burnt bodies and I decided to use a gas can and the lighter to torch the body they were eating. After that they were never seen at that body again and I was free to move through the area without them blocking the way.
I saw that line but didn't have a way of burning the bodies. Later on I saw rats eating a corpse, so I shot them and I might've hit a trap or something because they blew up and I got an achievement for burning a body lol
Your talking about the hole in the maintenance room which is the most annoying passage I used a gas mask and gas to pass through but I am thinking of using petrol bomps to burn my way through also a question do the bottles refill the generator because I am desperate and I am running in the darkness and I need it to finish the the prison puzzle
@@duckman9467 thanks for answering I founded out my self that they work I finished the game and it was amazing I hope they decided to continue make great games
My personal most surprising moment in the game was when I ran out of room in the save room chest and decided to just drop some raw meat I had on the floor. I had been doing this with other items so I didn't think twice about it. I was then horrified to be running back to the save room later only to find it infested with rats eating the meat.
One of the best episodes in Rebirth was the level in the fortress where all the soldiers were tortured and killed by monsters. I'm glad that in the Bunker they took a similar setting.
I absolutely loved handling the tank. Getting to use all these complex machines with thousands of little levers and valves is one of the best parts of Frictional's games imo
So the monster doesn't "learn" but ways to ward him off become less effective the more you use them. In example, the revolver on NORMAL difficulty will scare him away with one bullet hit. But the next time it may take up to 3 to scare him off.
It also depends on where you hit the monster. A headshot will always scare it away, but body shots may take more and more bullets depending on how much you've used it.
@@JewTube001Finished both, Machine for Pigs wasn't scary but it did have an interesting ending and some good music to boot. Rebirth went really deep into paranormal primordial territory which took away from the experience for me, but it did have some strong scenes
@@JewTube001A Machine for pigs is a bad game, bad amnesia game and just crap. Rebirth is fine, not amazing but fine, good elements, more of a walking SIM than what the dark descent did and this. Rebirth is a Amnesia Soma, and not nearly as good as Soma at all, or Dark Descent. The bunker is more survival horror than the others
The last 2? What's wrong with SOMA in your opinion? And also, yes: Rebirth sucked. Wasn't really scary for the most part and Tassi was annoying as hell with her constant talking.
The thing I love most about this game is it’s just you, the monster, and the bunker. No stereotypical horror BS and the absence of music is stellar. Sound design is also amazing. Playing again in hard mode and usually most games don’t make me wanna go back and play on harder difficulties
Even though I didn't finish it completely because I'm a wuss, I gotta say that its structure is really incredible. One of my favorite strucure designs, interconnected and tightly designed spaces with a lot of options and systems to progress, backtracking that's actually done well (due to smaller scale), and some metroidvania-like elements.
Bit late of course but the Halloween patch has given this game a new lease of life, you can custom tune the difficulty to tailor how you want to play. More devs should do this with their games.
Really enjoyed The Bunker, however it was so good that I wanted more at the end, maybe more of the roman tunnels. I get what the ending is meant to say and I belive the ending where lambert as a monster survives is the true ending, as he said in the beginning of the game "We make it out of this hell together"
I had a moment where I knew I was gonna have to shoot a lock and the monster would come out of a hole nearby. So I got a big barrel and covered the hole with it and it actually prevented it from spawning in through the hole.
Great video! I'm a huge Frictional fan but I was worried I wouldn't like this one, but it all comes together very nicely and it's now a favorite. I can't get enough of it and I have big hopes for the community to make some good stuff.
My favorite interaction I had with the monster was I used an explosive barrel to cover one of his entrances, and since he likes to destroy things that are in the way of his holes… he blew himself up on the way in making him instantly go back into the hole.
Frictional's Amnesia engine provides such a fun playground ripe with opportunity. I hope future patches keep the exploits that let me clip through the lockdown doors early because it's just so fun to roam those off-limits areas while the beast is stuck in the wall complaining that he can't come out.
people were worried about amnesia with guns, but i only fired six bullets in the whole game, and i only hit the beast once. its more of a utility piece than a weapon.
Although I will say the only weak aspect of the game I'd say is the fuel management, if you're good about the fuel management then you will pretty much NEVER run out, it could just be my item RNG but I never had the generator black out once and it only came close when I wasted far too much time in the roman tunnels, I feel like making it consume just slightly more fuel would make the experience much more tense
Easily the best Amnesia game since The Dark Descent. I think I like it more than the first one. Even though Dark Descent has a better atmosphere (imo), it lacks replay value and the monster encounters are scripted for the most part. The Bunker takes the Alien Isolation approach with its creature and it definitely leveled the tension up. This game is one of the best examples of "less is more". It is kinda cliche (Not necessarily bad) for sequels, prequels and reboots to go bigger and I am glad Frictional Games didn't go with that route. This is easly my indie horror game of the year.
One of the many things I love about this game, as someone who enjoys both genres, is how much the prologue feels like a hyper-realistic WW1 FPS (no HUD, realistic revolver reload speed, etc.) beford switching gears and becomes a monster-stalking, lovecraftian inspired supernatural horror game. Sure, I know its absolutely not what you play an Amnesia game for, and it doesn't really work as a bait-n-switch either because any person who even considers touching a survival horror game probably knows this franchise, but I still love the contrast and uniqueness. The switch was, at least, able to fool my parents who happened to be watching, into thinking this *was* a shooter game, and they are more knowledgeable than most parents about the games their kids play. All I told them (basically trying to joke with them) was that this was a new WW1 era survival game, which is true, but vague, and they were pretty surprised when the game quickly shifted into the best stalker game since Alien Isolation. It also does a fantastic job IMO at teaching you a lot of the basics of the game while playing like a totally different genre. Basically all it tells you (as far as I remember) after this is to not make noise and how the generator works. TL;DR is that this game's tutorial prologue does an amazing job at teaching you what you need to know, while still being unique and maybe even fun to play through on at least a few subsequent runs for some players on account of how unique it feels.
Best thing to do is get the wrench ASAP, get into that cell with all the bottles, make a clear path to the fuel storage, then do several trips with a bunch of empty bottles, you'll end up with enough fuel to where you can play the rest of the game with the generator going.
It took me a while to realise that I wasn't playing this game because it was bad or boring, but rather that it was absolutely horrifying. I haven't played many horror games and after playing this one, I don't think I've really played a true horror game up until I walked around that bunker for the first time.
The first encounter of having the lights go out and being nowhere near the generator had to be one of the most stressful and intense feelings I've gotten playing a horror title. Honestly felt like I wasn't going to be able to complete it due to how anxious I was about running into the monster in the dark. However, that did wear off a bit once you start to learn the behavior of the ai and you get those first few deaths out of the way. But the game never got boring and was an intense playthrough to say the least. I really hope frictional games continues to go in this direction focusing more on the survival horror elements that they're so good at. Would definitely like to see a longer title in the future with more enemy variants in the same gameplay style as The Bunker.
The biggest thing about this game for me at least is that I never got pulled out of the game due to it being rushed and released early cause of deadlines. I struggle to get invested in games because every 15 mins a weird bug happens that’s game breaking or just really off putting. I only really saw one or two bugs in the entirety of the game. One was a rat clip through some debris and the other was just mild item clipping / Physics shenanigans. that’s it. In a time where every game that is released has an apology stapled on to it because the game is unplayable or it’s so poorly handled that it is forgotten in less than a month. It’s so nice to play a game and not have to deal with all of that for once
I believe that the key horror for the Dark Descent was the audio design; It just felt so oppresive that you felt every moment something was gonna to Jumpscares you. Props to the Bunker to not need extremely oppresive audio to make you feel scared af.
Probably gonna throw this out with the other people who have probably asked I fucking LOVE Bunker, and honestly you should really give Outlast Trials a look I don't wanna say too much, but it's really similar to Bunker in how it switches up Outlast's formula and has a focus on moment to moment straight gameplay, with a multiplayer focus, it isn't scary in the slightest - rather it's fun as hell if you're fond of light stealth. I do quite like Bunker but I feel like Trials has some better elements I vibe with, but I do genuinely want to see your thoughts regarding it. Frictional and Red Barrels are probably my favorite horror developers in general, so it's honestly adorable seeing the two of them come out with their own ways of shaking up their formulas which got stale (Even if I love Outlast 2 and Rebirth - they definitely have their fair share of issues) Regardless, glad seeing someone also really enjoy and praise Bunker, I do wish it had some more moments like with the safe room getting a hole later in the game which allows the monster to come in and ruin your day.
I think I might be one of only a few people that actually liked Tasi´s voice performance in Rebirth... it´s funny how Simon in SOMA might arguably have even more lines then she does (especially counting his dialogue with Catherine) but I barely hear people talk badly about him, in fact with the exception of a couple funny one-liners, he isn´t even that witty most of the time - reasonable, since he is just an ordinary person thrust into a really extraordinary situation but still... and then you have Daniel, who has the posture of a linen handkerchief and is an 18th century posh bloke who busts out one novel-format, pages spanning diary-entry after the other, to describe singular events with so much pathos, you might think he´s practicing for a stage play and don´t get me started on Mandus... guy writes so much, he could conquer France with a fleet of paper planes from his diary I don´t see what´s so bad about Tasi compared to this, I mean she has an unnaturally advancing pregnancy, lost a child, her husband, all her crew members and suffers from memory lapses, I mean bloody Hell, cut her some slack for not going all Lara Croft on you
I think the voice actor for Tasi did a great job, I think people had bad reception to it initially because of how strong the accent was, and how it was hard to relate to her emotions sometimes because it would feel unnatural at times. I personally think Simon was a better character and voice actor because he was more relatable to the player and his reactions felt more genuine and real.
I think it wasn't so much of the talking as it was breaking the mood, there were many times I was scared but the unnaturally calm way Tasi would react just calmed me down or confused me/ took me out of the moment as I know dang well I should be scared. Not to mention with Simon it's a two way conversation with catherine, so I also felt like I was included in the conversation so It felt like I'm talking with a person at one point and "let's split up gang," all alone on another.
@@ccpapo2092 I agree with this a lot. Tasi did break the mood very frequently and I really wish I was more scared on my first Rebirth playthrough as well. I also really like how you described the contrast between being with Catherine and then being alone for the monster encounters, I think this is one of Soma's strong points that Rebirth wasn't really able to achieve in the same way.
Tasi is annoying because she talks to herself all the time, and also in monster filled environments where it would be wiser to STFU. Simon talks to another character most of the time so it makes sense.
The monster does “learn”, but it’s more like building a tolerance than anything. For a time I’d use gas for breathing room. Ironic, I know. But then it got to a point where the Beast just straight up **went through the gas** after I’d used it to many times.
A lot of people skipped this because the previous game, amnesia rebirth, was a trash fire. I think they really hurt themselves with the last one, and every just pressed skip on this one. What a shame.
The worst parts of The Bunker were: Facial Textures look bad The Generator thingy feels gimmicky espesically with how fast it can go down The ending feels unsatisfying
While the concept of the monster making a tunnel in the saferoom is cool, apparently he never actually uses it to break into your room no matter how much noise you make, it's simply there for the illusion of danger
I have played all the Amnesia games upon their releases and found them to be enjoyable experiences overall. While the second game didn't quite reach the level of greatness as the others, it was still a kinda decent game. However, my particular favorite was Amnesia: Rebirth, mainly because of its compelling protagonist, Tasi, and its engaging story. I appreciated how Tasi's character was developed and the way she communicated throughout the game. It added depth and immersion to the overall experience. I recently finished Bunker, and thoroughly enjoyed it. One aspect that I found slightly disappointing was that Henri, didn't have as much dialogue as Tasi did in Rebirth. I believe it would have been interesting to see him speak more, especially after realizing that the monster was his friend. Nonetheless, I still had a great time playing the game, and I am eagerly looking forward to the next installment. I hope the upcoming game will arrive soon and bring with it the same level of quality as Rebirth and Bunker, perhaps even introducing new and exciting gameplay elements like we saw in Bunker.
alien isolation will forever be my favorite horror game, however, I still love the bunker. I have VERY few issues with the game. my only complaints would be how short it is and how the monster is always in the area you are in. if the monster would roam between sections of the map without you in it, that'd be amazing. add a power map to the generator room to get an Idea of where it is so you only have an *idea* of where it is, and if they just added an additional 30 minutes to the run time, that would be great
Okay but does anyone remember that WW1 eldritch horror game that got a teaser years ago then it vanished? Did the Amnesia devs buy the rights to that game or did ghey just see that traioer and say “oh dang thats a great idea lets do a WW1 setting”?
THe other day Frictional Games tweeting this "SO MAny good horror games coming out this year." Read into that what you will but I take it that we might be getting a Soma sequel.
Best horror game ever. I may have a bias because it’s my favorite setting ever, which you could probably tell by my name, so I’m very happy they made an actually good WW1 game. It’s sad knowing Henri was sent right back into another hell.
I’d say this is the scariest of Frictional’s games. Only The Dark Descent comes close to me. The monster in this is the most threatening out of any of their games. The fact that he doesn’t go away shortly after shaping up in an area you’re in, like the one in The Dark Descent, means he can’t be cheesed as easily.
Whats Sad about It though is that a lot of people wont appreciate what It does have until is too late. RE4R is "Soulless" , the Bunker is "clunky" and the Outlast Trials is "boring". Very sad to see people that cannot be contented with nothing. Funny is those kind of people start to overrate these games saying how It were much better than "nowadays games" after 3 or 4 year passes
I haven’t completed it yet but I think it’s the scariest game after Dark Descent. Maybe Penumbra: Black Plague is scarier. Been ages since I played that one.
I think your enjoyment of this game depends on whether you play horror games for the gameplay or the story. If gameplay is your main focus you’d be fully satisfied, if it’s story you’d find it a bit lacking and underdelivered. Either way I’m glad people are talking about this rather small game from Frictional, it gives them enough attention so their bigger game might sell well.
Just HOW can the Monster be Lambert!? It does NOT make sense that the Monster created All his living Space and dig all the Tunnels in just a few weeks!?
Hate how every reviewer just shits on Rebirth every chance they get. It was an amazing experience, stellar storytelling and voice acting. Way way much better than most psychological horror games out there. People really be expecting an abnormally pregnant woman who lost her child, had just lost her husband, crash landed on a desert alone with no memory to just shup up and have no reactions and self-reassuring words to herself to all the horrors ahead. To say it's a "stumble" and a "misstep" is just delusional and forced. What a shame because this review of The Bunker is so concrete and subjective, then he just needed to go out of the way to compare it to previous titles and took a stab to Rebirth not once but twice, for all the wrong reasons.
Finished it 30 minutes ago and had a great time playing it. I went crazy blowing up rats and doors with grenades just because I could. The stalker's AI was a little bit too random at times, but overall he felt like a real threat through the entire journey. I'm still mad I poured 5 gallons of fuel right before the last part tho. Literally pointless lol
I think this is a great little horror game, absolutely worth it if you have game pass I can't quite put it up in the running for game of the year for me however but it's definitely solid
it is a pretty good game but for me the timer element killed the immersion a bit; I like to take my time with this kind of game to be able to appreciate the set pieces and the atmosphere; and I felt like I had to rush through it all the time to not get out of fuel and it kind of killed the immersion. Even in the safe room unless you're out of fuel the time is ticking always.
The Bunker's biggest sin is coming out in 2023 and having to compete with another half dozen fantastic horror titles. I still can't believe it has a 78 on metacritic.
It bothers me that it locks you into an animation when it attacks you. The game is also way too short. Felt like a DLC. Other than that a great Amnesia title.
While I loved the setting I couldn't help but sigh when I read notes referencing an 'excavation site'. Why can't it just be about WW1? Why fall back on ancient evil awakens when actually evil is happening right then and there? Still a good game, but I was disappointed.
The game is great but with one major flaw which is its length. Replayability due to randomness is also highly questionable, because the scare factor disappears after a few hours when you realize that it is very easy to avoid or exploit the monster. These are what I expect from their next game: - Keep the same formula, but make the monster(s) grow, mutate or evolve as you progress. - Death should be punished in new ways that would keep tension alive. They came only so close with this single-checkpoint system. - The map should be twice the size of the bunker, at the least. There can be an open area after a closed one, followed by another closed, sprawling, maze-like area, with a new monster threat.

I poured petrol on the rats and then threw a flare. Burned those fuckers and the corpse.
There’s also a photo of corpses being burnt too I think
A lot of the photos end up being indirect tutorials if you just look and think a little
Your talking about the hole in the maintenance room which is the most annoying passage I used a gas mask and gas to pass through but I am thinking of using petrol bomps to burn my way through also a question do the bottles refill the generator because I am desperate and I am running in the darkness and I need it to finish the the prison puzzle

The puzzles in that section were pretty decent as well.
I absolutely loved handling the tank. Getting to use all these complex machines with thousands of little levers and valves is one of the best parts of Frictional's games imo
That was my favorite part of rebirth. Makes me wish they add the fort as an alternative map.
Other games: 20 bullets, I am so low on ammo...
Amnesia: 4 rounds.....awWWW HEELL YEAH!
So the monster doesn't "learn" but ways to ward him off become less effective the more you use them. In example, the revolver on NORMAL difficulty will scare him away with one bullet hit. But the next time it may take up to 3 to scare him off.
Took me 4 on hard
It also depends on where you hit the monster. A headshot will always scare it away, but body shots may take more and more bullets depending on how much you've used it.

This is one of the best survival horrors released in a very very long time. I really hope they make more of this
I agree. It is really really well made.
Frictional once again proving they're the undisputed kings of horror in video games.
Oh man you have to try to finish it, for such a short game its totally worth it. I was very surprised by the ending.
That’s an interesting take! I like it.
I do feel it ending came too fast. I was hoping for more creepy ruins
This game is incredible. I expected it to be pretty good, but it even exceeded my hopes
I had a moment where I knew I was gonna have to shoot a lock and the monster would come out of a hole nearby. So I got a big barrel and covered the hole with it and it actually prevented it from spawning in through the hole.
Glad you mentioned Conscript.
I’m very excited to play the full release.
Great video! I'm a huge Frictional fan but I was worried I wouldn't like this one, but it all comes together very nicely and it's now a favorite. I can't get enough of it and I have big hopes for the community to make some good stuff.
Agreed, this game was excellent at building up dread and suspense
Really though, the scariest aspect about this game is the fact you play as a Frenchman
LMAO 💀
My favorite interaction I had with the monster was I used an explosive barrel to cover one of his entrances, and since he likes to destroy things that are in the way of his holes… he blew himself up on the way in making him instantly go back into the hole.
That’s funny af
Frictional's Amnesia engine provides such a fun playground ripe with opportunity. I hope future patches keep the exploits that let me clip through the lockdown doors early because it's just so fun to roam those off-limits areas while the beast is stuck in the wall complaining that he can't come out.
As much as I loved Amnesia: the Bunker it was so short, on my first playthrough I finished it on normal difficulty with hints off in 3hours
Appreciate the little CONSCRIPT mention there! Great video as always. :)
people were worried about amnesia with guns, but i only fired six bullets in the whole game, and i only hit the beast once. its more of a utility piece than a weapon.
It's amazing that I played through the whole game and was STILL learning new things after I beat it
Although I will say the only weak aspect of the game I'd say is the fuel management, if you're good about the fuel management then you will pretty much NEVER run out, it could just be my item RNG but I never had the generator black out once and it only came close when I wasted far too much time in the roman tunnels, I feel like making it consume just slightly more fuel would make the experience much more tense
@@StolenTheifdepending on the difficulty fuel last less the harder it is
Easily the best Amnesia game since The Dark Descent.
I gotta try this on my next playthrough
@@ninjaguy_232 And remember you can throw all the fuel down on the floor next to the generator it will STAY THERE.
It took me a while to realise that I wasn't playing this game because it was bad or boring, but rather that it was absolutely horrifying. I haven't played many horror games and after playing this one, I don't think I've really played a true horror game up until I walked around that bunker for the first time.
Fr. I was so terrified after I first left the safe room 💀
Unpopular opinion: The Bunker is scarier than the Dark Descent.
The Bunker is scary af
I believe that the key horror for the Dark Descent was the audio design; It just felt so oppresive that you felt every moment something was gonna to Jumpscares you. Props to the Bunker to not need extremely oppresive audio to make you feel scared af.
Game is a masterpiece, its the scariest game i ever played and still i cant wait to play it again on different modes.
Probably gonna throw this out with the other people who have probably asked
I fucking LOVE Bunker, and honestly you should really give Outlast Trials a look
I don't wanna say too much, but it's really similar to Bunker in how it switches up Outlast's formula and has a focus on moment to moment straight gameplay, with a multiplayer focus, it isn't scary in the slightest - rather it's fun as hell if you're fond of light stealth.
I do quite like Bunker but I feel like Trials has some better elements I vibe with, but I do genuinely want to see your thoughts regarding it.
Frictional and Red Barrels are probably my favorite horror developers in general, so it's honestly adorable seeing the two of them come out with their own ways of shaking up their formulas which got stale
(Even if I love Outlast 2 and Rebirth - they definitely have their fair share of issues)
Regardless, glad seeing someone also really enjoy and praise Bunker, I do wish it had some more moments like with the safe room getting a hole later in the game which allows the monster to come in and ruin your day.
I think I might be one of only a few people that actually liked Tasi´s voice performance in Rebirth...
it´s funny how Simon in SOMA might arguably have even more lines then she does (especially counting his dialogue with Catherine) but I barely hear people talk badly about him, in fact with the exception of a couple funny one-liners, he isn´t even that witty most of the time - reasonable, since he is just an ordinary person thrust into a really extraordinary situation but still...
and then you have Daniel, who has the posture of a linen handkerchief and is an 18th century posh bloke who busts out one novel-format, pages spanning diary-entry after the other, to describe singular events with so much pathos, you might think he´s practicing for a stage play
and don´t get me started on Mandus... guy writes so much, he could conquer France with a fleet of paper planes from his diary
I don´t see what´s so bad about Tasi compared to this, I mean she has an unnaturally advancing pregnancy, lost a child, her husband, all her crew members and suffers from memory lapses, I mean bloody Hell, cut her some slack for not going all Lara Croft on you
I think the voice actor for Tasi did a great job, I think people had bad reception to it initially because of how strong the accent was, and how it was hard to relate to her emotions sometimes because it would feel unnatural at times.
Let's be real, 90% of the time it's because she's a woman.
Thanks again for quality content!
Been binge-watching your silent hill coverage.
To me, the moral of the story is that nothing scarier than your fellow man
The monster does “learn”, but it’s more like building a tolerance than anything.
The worst parts of The Bunker were:
Facial Textures look bad
The Generator thingy feels gimmicky espesically with how fast it can go down
The ending feels unsatisfying
THe other day Frictional Games tweeting this

Hey Boulder. Ever play Murderhouse? It’s a puppet combo game that plays like classic RE. I recommend giving it a go
Best horror game ever. I may have a bias because it’s my favorite setting ever, which you could probably tell by my name, so I’m very happy they made an actually good WW1 game. It’s sad knowing Henri was sent right back into another hell.
Looking forward to this Love your content!

Definitely the best horror game to come along in a long time. It's just a lean, mean, tense horror game.
While unfortunately I don't think this will get any game of the years nods of any kind, it was an amazing game.
Man, horror games are kicking all kinds of ass this year.
@@JoseViktor4099I love crowbcat, but I genuinely don’t understand how you could think the original resident evil 4 is better. Yeah, I said it.

I love the fact even though you got a gun the ammo is limited to almost you not wanting to use it and how the bulletw 2ont do anything to it anyways
I really agree about the last thing you say about passionate developers
I think your enjoyment of this game depends on whether you play horror games for the gameplay or the story. If gameplay is your main focus you’d be fully satisfied, if it’s story you’d find it a bit lacking and underdelivered. Either way I’m glad people are talking about this rather small game from Frictional, it gives them enough attention so their bigger game might sell well.

Some of these remakes are awesome! RE and Dead Space was worth every penny I spent. I embrace remakes
Yes indeed RUclips is ablelist against people who can't see in the dark.
Finished it 30 minutes ago and had a great time playing it. I went crazy blowing up rats and doors with grenades just because I could. The stalker's AI was a little bit too random at times, but overall he felt like a real threat through the entire journey.

The Bunker's biggest sin is coming out in 2023 and having to compete with another half dozen fantastic horror titles. I still can't believe it has a 78 on metacritic.
It bothers me that it locks you into an animation when it attacks you. The game is also way too short. Felt like a DLC. Other than that a great Amnesia title.
do you spoil the ending of every game you review or just this one
0/10 can’t punch boulders
While I loved the setting I couldn't help but sigh when I read notes referencing an 'excavation site'. Why can't it just be about WW1? Why fall back on ancient evil awakens when actually evil is happening right then and there? Still a good game, but I was disappointed.
The game is great but with one major flaw which is its length. Replayability due to randomness is also highly questionable, because the scare factor disappears after a few hours when you realize that it is very easy to avoid or exploit the monster. These are what I expect from their next game:
- Keep the same formula, but make the monster(s) grow, mutate or evolve as you progress.
- Death should be punished in new ways that would keep tension alive. They came only so close with this single-checkpoint system.
- The map should be twice the size of the bunker, at the least. There can be an open area after a closed one, followed by another closed, sprawling, maze-like area, with a new monster threat.
i am thinking of buying this game on ps4. Does anybody know the frame rate on this console?
