Dracula had a moustache in the original book, as I’m sure everyone knows. So Orlock having a moustache is ok with me. And well said, The Guardian is rag.
5:30 Totally agree with the Collider review. This is the same director that gave us The Witch, I can't wait to see what the future holds for the brilliant Robert Eggers.
So Eggers has gone for the Corpse of Prince Vlad Tepesh better known as the Impaler. The head of the Medieval order of The Dracul or Dragon. He's gone for historical accuracy. That's perfect.
Filmmakers over the years have always shied away from giving Dracula his moustache as per the novel, but a Transylvanian or Romain nobleman of that period would most certainly have had a big bushy one. Eggers is big on roots of realism and accuracy in his films for those elements of verisimilitude and I applaud him for it.
Eggers has done adaptation before. The Northman is based on Hamlet/Amleth, and the Lighthouse is an adaptation of a nightmare I had one time after a heavy night out. Maybe.
Everything I've heard has wanting to see this film even more because this might actually have so good scare factor to it, which is sorely need in today's horror films.
In the original Bram Stoker novel, Count Dracula, a Romanian Nobleman, does, indeed, have a mustache. So, that may be where Egger's drew his inspiration from, seeing as how no film adaptation of the book has included this detail in its character design. EDIT: ....and I see others here already know that, so...
I can't believe we get it a week late, but its no harm. Delighted to see this brilliant section of movies I love (horror) get the come back it deserves!
The new Nosferatu is may be the best version of the Dracula story on film. References much of what came before it yet Eggers made it his own. Saw it two weeks ago and I can’t wait to see it again. Try to see it next the theater with the best sound system you can find.
The Variety critique is a very weird one, it contradicts literally every other review that came from both youtubers and MSM reviewers about Depp's performance. They are all praising her and almost all of them are praising the film. Dracula had a mustache in the original source material so Eggers correctly adapted his look in the film and made it the most historically accurate one to date.
I’m sitting out on this film till it’s available online. I’m a big Eggers fan but can’t escape that this is a retelling of an old story that’s been told numerous times now. I will watch it but not just yet.
I cannot wait for this movie, sadly for us bit longer than Xmas, in UK. But I'm so excited and hyped for everything, I cannot wait to see Orlok. I read the Script from 2016 so I got roughly an idea about the movie.
Eggers is a good director. I think he can bring the best of the excellent Murnau + Herzog versions plus add his own vision too. This should be a real movie treat.
I'm sure variety is still butt hurt about her dad making Amber heard look like a piece of turd, so they're taking it out on her. Because why is everybody else praising her?
@@Scifi4lifeit’s clearly an adaptation of the book with the names changed. I’ve ever seen a version of the 1922 movie where they did use the names from the book and the Werner Herzog version from 1979 also used the names from the book. Count Orlok is Dracula.
Idky everybody's upset about the mustache. If they're Basing this Nosferatu on the canonically accurate Dracula, in the books he had a mustache. So I'm okay with that.
I mean, everyone reading Eggers' leaked script from 2016 (and going by the trailers that draft still seems to be very close), can tell that Eggers remakes the Nosferatu story (aka the 1922) but makes it as close to the classic Dracula novel as he can. Even Orlok, according to the script, is described as a gross blend of classic Orlok and the Dracula from the novel.

"All" Remakes should Honor The Past Flicks, and not aim to make it better or worst. Make it real, make it a line with songs they sang, the whispers they told, the stories they wrote. Maybe it's kind of lame to view it this way, but for my part, if I don't have the bald head Spock ears and rat teeth, I don't care. That ain't Orlock. It's like Superman, without the cape. This went from a must run out a see it to meh, I'll wait.
What is disappointing? Most everyone seem to love it. There will ALWAYS be those who dislike something. Remember the vitriol levelled at the likes of 2001, Blade Runner or The Thing? They were wrong, were they not?
Hopefully this will be better than The Northman. I really enjoyed The VVitch and The Lighthouse but was bored stiff watching The Northman. I hope Nosferatu is more interesting.
@@Scifi4lifeThe silent film is a masterpiece that is copied and referenced to this day. Eggers' love for the OG is the reason this Remake exists at all.

Orloks appearance was iconic. To overlook that is (for me) a big mistake. Its a central part of what made the original so unnerving. I hope im wrong, but im already, kind of disappointed 😔
I recently watched the original Nosferatu for the first time. I was drawn to it because it has the creepiest looking vampire i’ve ever seen.
The late 70s film is also very good. Beautifully shot by Herzog.
Dracula had a moustache in the book, so kind of combining Orlok and his original appearance should be very unique and interesting.
Yeah, in the book. In never Dracula movie ever
1970's Dracula movie had the mustache. Coppola's too, after he youthed up.
Plus if you look at artworks of XVI century nobles in Hungary, Poland, Transilvania, you'll see facial hairs were obviously the fashion.

Smile 2

@jordanw6918 The Substance is better than this trash
