@@WanderbusAdventures Slowly I'm afraid, downside of working away from home all week and only having weekends, did I glean from these Victron vids that you went with a 12v solar/ habitation system?
Hi Rich If people have a Cerbo installed just use,a USB port to power the Lynx Leds.simple hack low cost and Victron are supplying the 5v feed!. No extra kit needed!
Hey Kevin, it is called a DC to DC converter - specifically a UBEC connector (buck). I got mine from thePiHut but I can link to an Amazon item if more convenient to you. amzn.to/3OGWZmD
Looking at the Lynx I would assume you connect the hack to the right of your first lynx. Then use an RJ10 cable (likely one in your box) to connect the right port to your second lynx.
There’s no such thing. So at the time I didn’t as the RJ10 wouldn’t have been fused. Since I did this Victron have also updated their written material and it doesn’t mention a fuse either. So am confident it’ll be fine without one.
Hi Michael. I know some people have put an in-line fuse on theirs. Couldn’t hurt to do that for sure. I just figured it’s such a small draw and the cable used is quite beefy compared to a rj45 that usually powers it without a fuse if that makes sense. It’s a worthwhile hack whatever you decide 😊
Hi mate hi did this today I haven’t placed any fuses in yet but I put power to the lynx but the ubec converter lights up red at the moment is this correct lol no led lights on the lynx are on at all I’m just about to add fuses and all loads I’m hoping this will turn the light on as you show
So once wired with no fuses the led’s should be red. And the centre light red also. Once the fuses are in the lights will be green: if one blows or is removed that one will be red and the middle light will be red. Unsure why yours hasn’t lit up. Which wires from the RJ11 did you wire up? Best of luck.
@@WanderbusAdventures no lights are on to do with the lynx Only a red light on converter is on I’ve only just got it all set up and running but I’m one fuse short All I did earlier was put power to the lynx and a negative to see if I had wired correctly but it must need all 4 fuses to work correctly with power in and negative connected I’m guessing I will get all the fuses connected tomorrow and see if it lights up this time on the lynx I would have thought tho it would have shown a red light on the led on the lynx tho and not the converter lit up Very strange Unless I’ve got a dud unti converter
I’d have thought it would light them all up too. Might be worth double checking the join and connections on the RJ11 side of the ubec. Let us know how you get on.
The component cost to Victron to supply 5V for the LED cct is 1x 5V 100mA TO-92 regulator and 2x 10 uF 16V caps, Less than 80p plus a heat clip or a glued on bit of a Coke can.
Great video as usual Rich
Thank you 😊. Hope your build is coming on well.

Thank Richard, just ordered the step down from PiHut. Come across your videos and enjoying going through them. I wish my van was as square.
Perfect. They delivered mine nice and quick. Let me know how you get on. P.s it has its squiggly bits don’t worry 😉

That’s a good shout. So a USB to RJ10 cable? My Lynx doesn’t have a usb on it, but do newer ones have this?
Just splice a usb cable and rj10 cable together mate
Hi mate wich wires do you put together any usb cable
Wow Very nice clean installation you got there!!
Thank you. We are pleased with it.
Great videos man, I learned a few things. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for your kind words. Glad to be of help. Hope your install goes well
Where did you get your 12v to 5v dropper please and whats it marker call

Fixed well done rich hope you all weathered the storm ok
Thanks Donny. We got away with the worst of it thankfully. Hope all is well your end.
Excellent job Rich x
Thank you 😊
Very good Rich a simple fix good one.......John
Thanks John. Just a little hack :-)
Hi Rich, how as the hack been, just wondering if you have had any problems with it before I go ahead and do it.
Hey. It’s worked well - thankfully no fuse blows: so from that perspective I haven’t ‘tested’ it but otherwise it’s working well. No issues to report.
After you do this hack do you have to do it again if you have two connected? Or can you just connect the cable between them?
Looking at the Lynx I would assume you connect the hack to the right of your first lynx. Then use an RJ10 cable (likely one in your box) to connect the right port to your second lynx.
Silly question but would you not need a fuse in the wire/convertor itself? Thank you!

@@WanderbusAdventures Thanks! Just trying to get my head around how everything works and the rules of electrics :)
Everything else is fused as you’d expect 😊. Good luck with your build.
These wires are so thin.....they are the fuse 😃
I’ve also realised the UBEC itself is basically a 3amp fuse. They actually are rated to different amps - so worth considering when buying.
I'm looking to do this with a 48v system. should there be a 1 Amp fuse ?

Great thanks for this
No problem. Thanks for commenting and watching

only a light on the ubec lights up
Have you popped a fuse in? Is the green light in the middle on?

We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock.
Thanks for letting me know. I’ve added a link for another if you’d like to use Amazon but it is also available from the Pi hut. Hope this helps.

It’d be a cheap add on. For sure.
