Technically it's a very weak film, but I find it so charming and delightfully retro that I can not "dislike" it, besides being very nostalgic to me.

  • @ThecompanyofSunshine

I'm lìke you. I grew up with this movie and loved it. I didn't understand why people disliked or thought it was forgetting, with how much I remembered from it, but I didn't let that stop me from liking it. In fact, I've had that feeling towards a lot of Disney films from both "Dark Ages" that I watched as a kid. Maybe it's something about all Disney films that even the non-masterpieces can feel like classics if your nostalgic about them. This was a good, fair review, and we need more of those.

Edgar is the Disney villain all the other ones ignore at the reunion. Just picturing him now, sitting on a bench in the corner, head hanging low, twiddling his thumbs, right next to the cow yodeling dude.

I come from the same place you do when it comes to this movie. As a baby/little kid, I adored this movie. My mom has told me that I would jump in my crib excitedly, saying "Istacats" when wanting to watch. I also seemed to really love Marie. This is also one of the few Disney movies my brother would watch with me, so there's definitely nostalgia there. I have a soft spot for this movie, but I agree that it's one of the weaker Disney films and there's some flaws with it. I too don't really like the dogs and geese. I can't hate the movie, though. Aside from my nostalgia, I think Aristocats is really cute and charming. Did you know that there was a sequel planned for this movie? It was going to take place on a cruise ship, and the cats were going to track down a jewel thief. Marie was also going to have a love interest. I believe there's an animatic for one of the scenes, and some storyboards.

    • @Jambareeqi

See, I’m the exact same way with this film. I used to watch this all the time as a kid but now as an adult I really don’t get that much enjoyment out of it. No I don’t hate the film but call it one of those Disney films where it’s very rare when I watch it

When you said one of the "weakest" Disney films, I don't think the word "weak" would be the correct word because there were some strong aspects in this movie? I think the correct word you're looking for is one of the "softest" Disney movies ever made because it felt "soft" for its cute, cuddly, loving, charming, and gentle content.

    • @Jambareeqi

I didn't call it one of the weakest? i spent a lot if this review covering what makes it good, I said that many people consider it to be the weakest. While I don't think it's one if the weakest, I get why people do, it's good but not great, it has quite a few distracting flaws that I addressed in this video

I think this film uniqueness come from those weak elements like its wimsical villain and premise, its episodic nature and light tone, is an endearing film all togheter, I enjoyed when I was a kid, my fathers did, and still enjoy it today. It´s slow pace, imaginiative ideas and strong personalities are something that doesn´t belong in today´s cinema´s much closer to something like the jungle book, even with it´s music numbers is far from the broadway musicals scale of the 90s. I appreacite the review altogheter.

Not sure why everyone rips on this movie yea its not exactly like others that is why its good its its own movie plus Walt died before it was near done or anything so they did best. Its unique not every movie has to be exactly like others. Its simple cute likeable characters may not have much going for it but its its own movie. Its own story its own vibe. Not everything should be about one so evil he has powers or a darkside too much. I like Aristocats over Lion King 1 and for sure any II or more never seen or want to, its ahead of Any Disney nowadays for sure or 2000s and some other lower ones tho good but weaker Mouse Detective, but even over some many favorites like Lady and the Tramp which is ok to me its ahead of Alice in Wonderland, and some others.

Heh, this review pretty much spoke my exact thoughts on this lovely film. By Disney's standards, it's not much, but it has such a fuzzy charm thanks to its loveable characters, countryside and Parisien background, and the songs.
Heck, I do think Edgar works as a villain because he's supposed to be this bumbling moron. Like Jasper and Horace from 101 Dalmatians had they not been bossed around by Cruella.

I liked the music, too, except you didn't comment on the opening title song. Marie being the kitten who had to be rescued all the time annoyed me, too. Berlioz is often considered the "youngest" kitten who also has some rivalry with Marie that Toulouse doesn't seem to have so much. They could've easily had him take Marie's place in one scene.

Fun Fact: At least Edgar did get a moment of fear and suspense when he threw the pitchfork at Thomas O’Malley, and a genuine laugh when he actually froze when the mouse said “QUIET!”.
Unfun fact: Its sequel and tv show got scrapped some time ago.

5:18 - I agree ☝️ with that Baloo/O'Malley statement. Phil Harris gave the exact same performance again when he played Little John. Because of that, I no longer believe that he was playing a unique character. I think 💭 he was just playing himself. Ironically the only animated role he had where he played someone different is a film 🎥 we like to forget, Rock-A-Doodle

Modern language evolved for thousands of years to reach the point it is at today. Pictures were used in the most ancient of languages, such as ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics, or ancient Norse Runes. Why are you adding little pictures to your sentences? Genuine question, what are they supposed to be adding? Not trying to be offensive here, just curious. Looks like a regression of human linguistic progress.

Hey Jambareequi I’m just gonna come out and say it and you have every right to disagree with my opinion, I like Edgar!
I find him pretty damn funny due to his incompetence! He sucks so much as a villain that it’s kinda hard not to laugh at his pathetic actions!
Does he live in the same league of the great Disney villains Judge Frollo, Scar, Jafar, etc.? Fuck no! And I will admit that if I had to view him from a quality perspective then yes he sucks ass as a bad guy.
For me he’s like “The Room” of Disney villains!

  • @TheCapedWanderer
    @TheCapedWanderer Год назад

Wrong. This movie is wonderful-incredibly charming as you point out, but the aspects you criticize also fall into that same category. Edgar is not Maleficent or even Cruella; he is a selfish fool. It’s not paced like the grand epic fairytales either, it’s a character piece like Jungle Book. And the characters are phenomenal: George, Scat Cat, Roquefort-are you kitten? “The studio’s favorite” yeah theirs and mine! Napoleon and Lafayette are an absolute smash duo, their scenes are some of the funniest in all of Disney. “Oxford, size nine and a half...” “What color are they?” “Well they’re blac- now how would I know that!?”
Finally the underlying theme of the story is a beautiful one: multiculturalism and cross-echelon love. Duchess falls for Thomas not over his suave charm, but despite his low class, over his genuine love and care for the kittens. And for what he shows her, not of the world, but of his friends-his open community (which becomes the basis of Madame’s “home for all the alley cats of Paris.”) The Alley Cats band has an Italian cat, a German cat, a Chinese cat, a British hippie cat, all led by the black American jazz cat, who’s best buds with the poor Irish-American folk cat. The melting pot of music, through which our high-society French cats are exposed to and fall in love with the universality of art; after all, EVERYbody wants to be a cat.
