  • @brianvincent4165

    Claudia's finest career moment.
The look of fear at the start,... who is walking through the door ??????
The look of relief when she sees it is Harmonica,.... a smile to communicate the attraction she feels towards him,......
The sudden realisation in her facial expression that Cheyenne is right,....... Harmonica is about to grab his gear and go,.......
The welling up she is holding back in her eyes as best she can,.......
The olive branch to make it clear she hopes he comes back someday, (as clear a statement of her feelings towards him she could possibly make in such a brief and heart wrenching exchange).
Claudia performs 90% of all of this through pure facial expressions, simply superb acting, befitting for the greatest movie of them all.
Her subsequent smile and demeanour when she takes water to the workers, knowing her man shall return once the dust has settled,... all the while unaware that Cheyenne is dying while she passes out the water,... just an incredible ending to a movie I have watched now some six times per year OR MORE, for over 45 years.
I cry every time I watch this movie,.......so powerful.

The audience has already seen the end of Harmonica's quest and Frank's realization that yes, he's "just a man". And yet, we are suddenly viewing through Jill and Cheyenne's POV, hearing footsteps and not knowing who's they are. Cheyenne unhooks his sidearm and the door opens.........Any other director knowing what the audience already knows would have simply shown Harmonica standing in the doorway but not the Master, we see who it is by the expression on Jill's beautiful face. We already know and yet somehow Maestro Leone creates palpable tension. And Jill's gasp when Harmonica says "now I've gotta go", the music oh that glorious music swells and Cheyenne's sad eyes plead to be asked to stay so that he can live........"I hope you'll come back someday" and the greatest stare in Cinema history........... "Someday". That is Cinema and that is the Power of Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone!!!!

Sergio Leone had done a few westerns when I was studying cinematography. He was repudiated by Hollywood. - How could an Italian make a Western? His movie was so exact to the Conquest of the West that the Library of Congress in Washington asked for a copy of the film and its negative for its history's archive.
The very best acting I ever saw in any movie. When the eyes of the actors show what they feel. Claudia Cardinale's eyes show hope, like sadness. Jason Robards's eyes turning toward Claudia because he knows she is about to live a separation with Harmonica. Such despair shown in an eye close-up... Simply extraordinary ! Cardinale, Robards and Bronson performed the best acting of the Century in the best Western of all time.
For six hours, I sat in the Movie theatre to watch it two times in a row. I still watch it today at least once a year.

Claudia Cardinale ...probably the most gorgeous woman ever to grace our screens! Look at her eyes.... even before she begins to act! Wow!

She can act with her eyes! Just that change in expression from "He is here!" to "He has gone", before CB even walks out the door. Wow! Just so powerful. Wonderful actors giving credit to an emotive script and some of the best atmosphere music ever. No more words ...

Enter music vocal, "now I gotta go", the gasp, the longing stare, the walk, music builds, "gonna be a beautiful town Sweetwater", I hope you'll come back someday", eyes meet one last time, "someday"...

What I like about this scene are the pauses between the dialogues. They itself are dialogues when the camera pans on the facial expressions. Absolutely beautiful scene

This movie is cinematic artistry. From a time of originality in both ideas, methods, craft, creativity. And that stems from a time, not so long ago, when people were original. I'm so thankful I lived to be part of that era, now gone. The world has gone to plasticity. We now have a new species of human. I like the old model, thank you very much.

Masterful ending, full of emotion and hope, Claudia Cardinale is a total Knockout, a woman you couldn’t take your eyes off, absolutely stunning, Bronson was the only man to play Harmonica, Jason Robards was magnificent, then you have Henry Fonda, probly the greatest and most cold hearted evil Villain ever, boy what a movie.....Sergio you were the Western Master totally untouchable, a genius , many other Italian directers were superb at the Western genre aswell......

Sergio nailed every film he made. Once Upon A Time In America, although a film of a brutally long length, is a complete masterpiece. As is The Dollars Trilogy.

The way Bronson delivers "Someday..." saying it without any passion, looking into the door, i think its means never. Harmonica has done his revenge, and has nothing to do in the town anymore. 10/10 movie. Best i have seen, better then Godfather.

Quite a few deep scenes with terrific climaxes in this flick. This scene is the best though. Passion, heartache, elegance, and pain all wrapped up in one. And the song just melts your heart. Bravo. They don’t make em like this anymore. I’m 32 years old and thank goodness my father showed me real cinema/art
    Much love and respect.

I have grown up watching westerns, and this scene has to be the coolest end to any western, what every man wishes he could do, walk away from a drop dead gorgeous woman after saying just two words , some day.
