- For anyone who’s ever been a teenager. Watch the trailer for Dìdi (弟弟), a film by Sean Wang. Winner of the Special Jury and Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Only in theatres August.
Dìdi (弟弟) is written and directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Sean Wang. The film is set in 2008 in the Bay Area, and is a funny, irreverent, and affecting ode to first-generation teenagers navigating the joy and chaos of adolescence as seen through the lens of a 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy, played by Izaac Wang (Good Boys, Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon). At its premiere in competition at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival it received critical and audience acclaim, winning both the U.S. Dramatic Audience Award and the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Best Ensemble Cast.
This has a special place in my heart already, being that I'm Chinese, grew up skateboarding, and was 16 in 2008. Had Myspace and AOL. He's wearing an Emerica shirt and in 2008 I got a RVCA poster signed by the RVCA team who had a few members that were also on Emerica. I also got caught stealing an Emerica shirt at Zumiez in 2006 when I was in 8th grade haha.
Dang unc😮
It was good
How is this not an A24 studio film?
🤷
Or a Bleecker Street film
they don't OWN original, cool indie flicks y'know
It is
Focus the original A24
To all you younger teens and kids struggling. It’s okay to feel lost, and go through different interest. You’re doing a good job. Just try to enjoy the good things you have now. It’ll all be over in a moment. Time is vapor. Rooting for you all.
I watched this for the 2nd time tonight in theater. Just wow. It’s personal, culturally specific, and universal. Brilliant film.
Just got done watching this movie. Thank you Sean Wang for making this movie! Please go watch it! Give it the love it deserves.
I'm about to watch it now
I just stole this movie, but when they talk in Chinese I don’t see the subtitles in English. Do u know if there’s subtitles in English??
This looks like a perfect Sequel to mid-90s but with different characters.
I was thinking the same thing lol
U mean part 3 mid 90s was basically like the movie kids
@@NajeeMckayno Kids is more of an Exploitation film than a Coming-of-Age. If I can compare movies like Kids it would be Thirteen, Christine F, Twelve, Rivers Edge and the list goes on.
and it kind of gives Pen15 (a tv series) vibes
Ngl this looks like a sick movie can’t wait
looks like a cheap diary of a wimpy kid remake to me...
Ok no one cares just because that’s what you think
This looks good although I came of age during a very different time. The director is from my hometown. I’m a GenX-er who grew up in Fremont, California and went to high school there in the late 80s and early 90s. I immediately recognized Mission Peak in the background at 2:02.
MAN they even showed a lil cameo of what was Bob’s Giant Burgers when it was off Central! Nice to see Fremont on the map.
I fucking loved this film.
This looks amazing
As a thirteen year old, I just know this movie is gonna hit so hard
This movie has a special place in my heart.
Is this how Jerry Hsu grew up
yoooo that rasict
I was thinking the same damn thing when I watched the trailer. Haha
Hahah I saw this getting filmed in the park right next to my house!
Which park?
This movie doesn't fill me with joy, it fills me with anxiety and cringey 2nd hand embarrassment..... it's just way way too real!
Hard to think of a better trailer this decade
I'm not crying, you're crying
i most definitely am and i’m not afraid to say it
Giving me some Pen15 vibes.
we don't have to see the movie now lol. We just watched the whole thing for free.
Have you ever watched a trailer before🤡
@@ethan9994everits a joke. And seeing as how trailers USED TO give a sneak peak & not sum up the entire movie, an accurate one
Cannot wait to see this, gives me flashbacks of the 90's growing up skating. Also love the Emerica shirt :)
Is there a party course the ending was something else
Buh a nice and a joy giving movie ❤
I feel like it’s a great movie. Can’t wait to watch it.
🔥 movie
Its cool seeing fremont galleria 1:38, and the parking lot of kyocera labs 1:41
First song is Gravity by Nico Vega

They used mgmt kids too
Looks like an anime film except in real life.
Diddy
It was pretty good. 9.1
pls put this on hulu
this is literally the only actual movie
how is this not a24?
they don't OWN original, cool indie flicks y'know
Nice try Diddy the movie
Don't be deceived with the storyline of a kid struggling to fit in, .....how about a kid with no self-respect, no respect for his parents and little to no parental control. I can tell what many single mothers would do if their children got out line but that would be too easy. Many single mothers have more respect, discipline, discernment, moral aptitude and love in their little finger than what was represented in this whole movie. Another side note, people may say that this is an Asian family taking on the American culture, that's a false narrative in many cases; there are many families and culture's that do not resemble this movie. Many teens struggle, I struggled, but cursing or yelling at my mom was never an option or thought! Lastly, it's just a movie, in my opinion not worth the film.
Pretty sure Wang (director) draws some inspiration from Jonah Hill's Mid90s. Its basically the same vibe but with asian characters. Even the story is similar, Stevie in Mid90s plays skateboard with some thugs he met on the street, and theres also the absence of a father in the main character's family. Definitely an okay film but not that great.
Been there, done that. Just another coming of age movie. Nothing special about this movie
Looks like garbage
It was solid
Another generic coming of age movie but this one stars asian people. Different. Brave.
doesn't look generic to me, looks fresh and funny and heartfelt.
bro it was made by an asian dude. this isn't some woke diversity blockbuster movie or whatever your dumbass thinks, this is just a movie an asian man made, probably based on his own life. was he supposed to pretend to be white just for you?
everything doesnt have to be groundbreaking or creative, capturing a feeling or time period and relatability can feel great
@@crumblebee6728nah looks like a diary of a wimpy kid knock off except their asian and its rated R
Such an amazing film 🥲 saw it ln
Looks like some Shiddy coming of age movie take place in 90s
