For me the objection is the additional cost of customs and shipping, plus the returns policy. I suspect that may be why there doesn’t seem to be much Everlane on the second hand market, you see a lot of internet “mistakes “ being sold on, but that huge extra cost........And a return is at your cost; no return label.
I priced the boots, and yes, they are lovely, but those additional costs amounted to 1/3 as much again.
Until they ship from the U.K. , I won’t be dipping my toe in this market.

Me too. I like their styles, but I don't see any sense in buying products made in the EU (i.e.the leather boots) which are then shipped to the US, for me to then order them and have them shipped back to the EU. I can find very similar high quality items, made locally for a quarter of the price.
Totally agree, tax and shipping have ruled them out for me until they ship in the UK. Such as shame as there are so many things I’d like, particularly that coat!
Janette completely agree with you. There are sustainable brands in the UK/EU with a very similar aesthetic so I’ll stick with them.
Why buy Everlane when you can find exact same items from brands such as COS or Arket: no custom taxes and a lot lesser carbon footprint!

I love everlane SO MUCH! They have some amazing quality knits! I have a cashmere sweater I’ve been wearing for 5 winters now, and it didn’t have any fuzz until now! Not even bubbles! Just bit of fuzz, for 5 years! Also it didn’t go out of shape after all the washings for 5 years! The winter is so long here in the northeast of US, I wear it a TON, it never disappoints.
Have to agree with some of the other comments re the extra costs associated with shipping and duty charges - returning an item also is far too expensive so although I love the brand I cannot and will not buy until they have a uk outlet.
Tessa Bailey I totally understand but I have a large US following and they feel like that about most of the EU brands I talk about, unfortunately I can’t please everyone 🙈

have bought their silk shirts and they are just wonderful. Having been trying to decide on the oversize blazer and your video just assisted me to make up my mind.
I agree, the fact they ship from the US, the added taxes and the return problem stop me from ordering Everlane. I cancelled my basket after I had made my selection the other day seeing what the whole thing amounts to. It’s a pity.....
Kerstin Tosmann Me too. The boss boots retail at £180 but with shipping etc it came to £253 something. That’s over 1/3 of the price on top!

Kerstin Tosmann I totally understand where you’re coming from. I often empty out a few extra items from my basket when I see the taxes but I still love them. I usually make a big order whenever we travel to the States and have it shipped to my hotel 🙌🏼
But I have a large US audience so I have to also cater for them as well and they can’t buy brands like Arket, Cos etc. If I could please everyone it would be the dream but it’s just not possible.
But, the more comments we get saying you want UK shipping the better, let’s get Everlane over to the UK 🙌🏼
Emma Hill Hi Alyssa Beltempo did an Everlane review on her channel today and she had the same sort of responses; she said she was going to pass on that feedback to the brand.
I know there are websites with which you can register that give you a US “address” and set of bank details but I think a) the service charges are substantial and b) you have to place a big order.
I suppose a group could club together and share one.

I always pass this feedback on to the brand but it’s also nice for them to see with their own eyes. I wrote them an email before I started working with them after my first order giving the same feedback. I do work with Everlane now but I’m also a consumer and so these things matter to me as well ❤️
Thanks for showing the Boss Boots and mentioning how soft the leather is, I was thinking about them. You covered a lot, but one more thing I would for you to comment on are their washable silk shirts. I love silk, hate dry cleaning, so they seem almost too good to be true.

ciaralandy yes for us here in the UK the taxes are a bit of a killer, however they offer free International shipping quite frequently if you have their newsletter.
But the more comments we get like this then hopefully it will give Everlane a little nudge to get an EU distribution centre so we don’t have to pay those import taxes and more than likely get free shipping always 🤞🏼

@@EmmaHill or depending how things pan out it would have to be a UK one, not EU. Switzerland is not in the customs union and the shipping issue can a real pain with some online retailers (or just make them unavailable).

Rachael Jones I will definitely try although I do tend to stick to buying their premium range because of the quality, but it does come with a slightly steeper price tag. Worth saving for though as it lasts so much longer than their main line 🙌🏼

It's impressive to know that the Everlane jean is a top fave of yours considering your massive jean collection. Those Boss Boots are impressive too, because they're beautiful & comfortable but most importantly they don't make your feet extra long despite the pointed toe style

I've got quite a few pieces now from this brand. I love everything! I have purchased jeans, cashmere sweaters, t-shirts, corderoy pants, cotton sweaters, and boots.
I'm not crazy about the sneakers🥴 I think they look like orthopedic shoes😉🥰🤣.

Emma, you are one of my favorites, and everything I have seen from you is true to your brand and your image. I appreciate your content, whether AD or not. I know that you only create ads for brands you believe in. I am a US viewer who follows influencers from all over the world. It is irrelevant to me whether the brands ship to the US or not because I usually shop the secondhand market anyway, and those distinctions get blurred when buying resale. #secondhandbutgrand has been my mantra since 2015 as I have downsized from a size 22/24 to a 4/6.
I have an everlane store 3 minute walk from my place, I tried on the first coat I liked the body in a size 4, but arms were too short and the body in size 6 was too big but arms fit. I’m 5’9” and 128.

Yes it is lined with like a thick cotton fabric & it does have a patch pocket inside, but no zip. 👍🏼

Simon get paid. They have bills and fur babies to take care of just like the rest of us and this is their job.
As for forcing consumerism I don't think so, bottom line if people like to shop they will buy. It is up to the individual to decide if they want something or even want to shop.

Krystle Battle absolutely, despite what brand I’m wearing it’s always a pretty basic look and can more than likely be recreated with what you have in your wardrobe already or with pieces that sit within your budget from another retailer 🙌🏼

I’m sure I am not the only subscriber here in the US, so it is refreshing that she is including all of us as well as a brand she really loves. 😍
Silverflipflop I have a very big US audience and I think they probably get fed up of me talking about Arket as they can’t even make an order in the US. Unfortunately I can’t please everyone but I only work with brands that I spend my own money on and even with the duties I still order from Everlane, or I order when I’m in the States or Canada and bring it home with me 👍🏼
Cynthia Bloss I totally agree. I watch her in part because she does include a nice variety in terms of price and availability. And I know that if I ever go to Europe again, I absolutely must find an Arket, a Weekday, and several others...I have a list of UK/EU brands and Australian/New Zealand brands and specific items that to want to get if I ever visit those places!!!

I love everlane and really want to get a few items so much i asked for an e voucher for my birthday yesterday. But the taxes and fees add up to around 90 quid. Is this standard and do these increase with the more you spend? Thanks Emma 😊
Lisa Elliott yes the tax charged is a percentage of the order total. So the more you spend, the higher the tax. It’s like tax in your wages 😫 But the more comments we get from UK folk the better, because it will encourage Everlane to get an EU warehouse and ship from within the EU which would be amazing and taxes free, plus the shipping would be cheaper, potentially even free 🙌🏼

US shopping is pretty much the only reason I could ever imagine myself living in the US lol! They're so lucky to have a variety of sustainable, while still being fashionable, brands! And apparantly they don't get duties/extra fees until they hit about 1000$ or something like that, which is a lot more than the 30 pounds (0 pounds from 2020) limit we have in Norway. I'm a tiny bit jealous

Emma Hill yes, I’m aware they pay tax, but customs duty when shopping from different countries has a "high limit", so they’re mostly able to avoid it. At least that’s what I took from googling "US customs duty rates" or something like that haha
Their clothes look beautiful, classic and timeless and great wardrobe staples. Unfortunately I probably wouldn’t order any due to the shipping costs involved etc but appreciate you have followers worldwide who will value this video so don’t have any issue with that. Like you say you can create these outfits from what’s already in your wardrobe or items from other brands. Hopefully in the future they will branch out further and make shopping from the UK easier. 💋

I love Everlane but until returns from the UK are easier I don't feel confident to buy. Have a tote bag which I love, obvs no problem with fit with a bag. Emma just want to say am really impressed with the way you have adapted to be more sustainable. I also appreciate unlike many influencers you are not part of the crowd popping up at events, endless breakfasts, dinners etc And of course your style is 👌

It would be amazing if they would open up an EU distribution centre, then no taxes, fuss free returns and most likely free shipping 🙌🏼 I really hope it’s on the cards as I tend to only make my orders when I know we’re going to be in the States.

Do you find the alpaca sweater itchy?
I bought two this past fall and layer them over a short sleeve tee so that the neck and sleeves touch my skin. Besides being super soft, they do not itch.
Keagan Grotjohn I do the same, I always wear a tee underneath so it doesn’t touch my skin. But I don’t really have any intolerances to fibres like wool so I might not be the best person to ask 🙈

Honestly think that the alpaca is softer than most of the everlane cashmere. I found the re-cashmere rather itchy and really love the Alpaca. But I’m not particularly sensitive either.
tridevic I actually ended up with the re-cashmere, interested to feel it, I wish my sensitivity was more specific, I think it chooses when it wants to act up :)

LOL, your opinion of the brand has come a long way from your first video about the brand. I’ve been wanting to try it but am leery of the sizing. The jeans are just my thing because I’m one who doesn’t like a bunch of stitching or bling on my bum, and the blazers are fab. However, like I said, the sizing is a concern and I don’t want to have to deal with the returning game.
Melissa M yes it really did although it didn’t take me long. A week after that first order arrived I’d worn the jeans almost every day and the blazer about 4 times in that week, so I thought mmmmmm, I think I might have been wrong about them 🤣 Although I do stand by my points on UK (and non US) returns and the import taxes are a pain in the ass, which is why I tend to do an order when I know we’re going to the States 🙊 But their products are great value and all the bits I’ve bought have worn well, washed well and are still going strong 💪🏼

Susana González Codina I actually did a follow up to that review where I said that I had completely changed my mind in terms of Everlanes products, the items from my first haul ended up being the most worn pieces in my wardrobe. My original review was just a first impressions 👍🏼

Gabrielle Vallons well actually I doubt they would have sponsored me after my first review as I wasn’t exactly kind about them. First impressions are just that, first impressions. Sometimes they stick sometimes they change. As I wore the items from my first order I came to love them, something I was quite honest about. These were items which I paid for, zero gifting, zero payment. And then I made a second order the following season which I wouldn’t have placed and spent my money on if I genuinely didn’t like the brand.
I know there are some people out there that just want to hate “influencers” and how we earn our money, and yeh there are some bad eggs out there that spoil it for those of us who are honest and only work with brands that we genuinely love. But don’t tar all of us with the same brush.
I can’t even begin to tell you how many sponsorship offers we get on a daily basis, but we say no to about 90% of them because they’re not brands that I spend my own money on. I’m not on a private jet with lavish beauty brands, I’m not on every press trip or at every brand breakfast going, I’m just here working to create content that I enjoy making and that my audience enjoys watching with the brands that I genuinely love, before any sponsorship ever comes into play.
Emma Hill sorry if my inicial comment sounded harsh, I didn’t mean anything by it. I didn’t want to imply that you changed your mind because you got paid. The absence of non verbal language makes online communication a bit tricky. I don’t follow you religiously so I didn’t know your opinions changed, I just remember the first video and how much I agreed with it (my cheeky straight jeans were awful and my cashmere sweater was so itchy I ended up returning both). I wanted to love the brand but the items were seriously bad... i think they have clever marketing and frumpy clothes.

Susana González Codina no not at all, if you don’t catch every video of mine then I totally understand it’s difficult to keep up with my views and opinions on different things. Also we’re all different, so what I like might not be like what someone else likes. I adore my M&S cashmere jumpers for example but there are lots of people who think they’re terrible. We’re not all going to like the same things but I’m just here documenting what I like and don’t like 🙂

I loved everything about Everlane but then someone told me they were not as sustainable as they claim. Watch the Levi Hildebrand utube video. Now I am conflicted about the company but I still love the clothes I have already bought.
Michelle Dry to be fair I shop at H&M so I can’t call myself a sustainable angel. But sustainability for me isn’t just about the manufacturing process, it’s about quality and longevity of these items. They are amazing quality and they wash well which means the likelihood of having to re-buy a basic item after a year or even after one season is much lower 🙌🏼

Im tired that my favorites youtubers are just pushing people to consume consume consume, which is not ethical at all.its a big commercial this video, and i didn t even bother to look till the end, enough of products placements.
Judy S this video says AD very clearly in the title so yes it is a commercial of sorts, I’m very transparent about any sponsorships I do which is more than most in the same position as me. If you don’t want to watch a sponsored video of mine then you don’t even have to click on it because it’s clearly displayed as an AD.
The video isn’t encouraging consumerism, it can be used just for some very simple outfit ideas which you could very easily recreate with what you already have, as some people have mentioned in the comments. But as Everlane is a brand I spend my own money on I am more than happy, in fact I’m proud to work with them. And I stand by their products, not because I work with them but because I buy them with my own money and I like them. They wear well, wash well and I think are good value for the quality. This video is not saying you must buy all these items, I’m simply showing some basic outfits and talking about the Everlane products which I think are versatile staples, pieces you can wear for years to come and not just for one season. Yes! Nothing in particular against this video or its creator. But I get rather fatigued with the trend in fashion RUclips to be all about BUYING clothes instead of tips for styling the clothes that we already have. Emma Hill to be honest, i realize that at least you are VERY transparent, which is really honest, now i sew those youtubers they just put a very small” AD samsung “ under the video, which is NOT very clear for many viewers. Their whole content is sponsorised, of course i still enjoy watching you and those other people, but then what to do? Its relaxing me even if i dont buy anything☺️🙄

But I will say that we made a video almost identical to this a few weeks back but it wasn’t sponsored. So our AD videos aren’t actually any different to our usual content and at the end of the day, this is a job, just like everyone else has, we have to be able to earn money somehow or we wouldn’t be able to keep creating videos 🙈

JULIA LYNA we’re actually really proud of any sponsored work that we do and this is our job, so we do need to earn a wage from it. We work really hard on all our videos and we make sure that they are always true to my style and always with brands that I spend my own money on anyway. We made a video very similar to this a few weeks back but without the word AD in the title because it wasn’t sponsored, so it’s not unoriginal content, it’s the same content that we always create.
