Spend a full day with me here in my cabin on Svalbard, it is just me and Grim for a little bit! I go through what a regular day in my life can look like when I'm alone in the cabin. In the short time I was gone, it has gone from full winter to early summer, so it's also time to prepare the cabin for the new season. Christopher could do some farming and freeze drying preserving foods like I’m always talking about😂
Why don't you put blinds in your windows in the kitchen etc. It gets dark here but I always close my blinds for privacy anyway and that would reduce the sunlight flowing into your home.

@Sally Phillips with TikTok and reels and shorts on these platforms, a lot of content creators are moving to short content rather than longer videos. I really love long content. I'm happy she still does longer content rather than these short 30 to 60 second clips.

I just meant that I appreciate that Cecelia uploads on Sundays exclusively - not many do that. a lot of the channels I follow post many days a week (including Sundays as well) and some that never post on Sunday haha

My tips for a better sleep: you should get blinds in your kitchen and make your house darker in the evening. Also make your bedroom darker before going to bed so when you get in the room it’s already dark and cosy and not in bright daylight 😊

Black-out curtains has always been my thought
There is a kind of window covering from Europe (in Italy it is called a persianna) that is a kind of indoor shutter. It is an accordion type shade that has horizontal holes in it but when you let it all the way down, it completley darkens the rooms.
Is there anything better than Grim’s grinning face & happy tail?!😊❤

It's so weird to see Svalbard without snow on the ground. I started watching last Fall, so this is my first Summer time watching. Love that you and Christopher are trading off vacation time to make sure that one of you is with Grim!

How did you name your RUclips name?
When you said "too much sun", I nodded my head in agreement. We'll have stretches of sunny days and I start to feel down, because I miss the rain and snow and darker days. Those days feel restful and cozy to me, and feeling cozy is my favorite feeling! My daughter and I are visiting Longyearbyen in just over a month and your videos have me SO excited for our visit!!!

It's interesting how you love this solitude, yet you connect with so many! You have figured out how to have both! I love your beautiful spirit.
Seems like the cabin now has blinds on all windows. A suggestion: Lower the blinds after a time that mimics a more normal daylight schedule ie say 9pm. Then spend those hours with the lights on like people do who have a normal sunset.
Just a thought.

I honestly believe that if money were no object, I would become a Svalbard Snowbird!! Traveling back and forth between Svalbard (Just before, during and just after Polar Night) and some US state that is fairly cool in summer but has actual night time) I am so much like you. loving the dark and snowy world and not much fond of the summers' long lights. I also love my times of being alone. Live with my daughter and son-in-law but when they go off on their motorcycling trips etc, I just LOVE having the house to myself, even though that means taking care of cats and dogs :)
Cecilia- I love how real you keep it with your videos. I love hearing about living on Svalbard, but I like that you acknowledge the challenges as well. Thank you for doing this and normalizing not always being happy with everything, making changes to further your personal growth and happiness, and understanding when you need a break. Cheers from Canada (where we have islands relatively close to the North Pole, but I just don't live on one of them :P ).

My grandmother & mother (& now me) have always used a cheese slicer like the one you showed. It is definitely a needed kitchen utensil😊 I am always thinking about how much effort you put into filming your videos. Like the long shot of you walking with Grim. I think about how you have to get your video of you walking away so far & then having to come back for the camera. I definitely needed to see this. I’ll be going to Oslo and The west of Norway for 5 weeks to visit family and friends. People are so wonderful in Norway. 10 days and counting for take off. I am not a cold weather person, but I would love to visit. The sheer beauty is the draw. Clean and simple. I love the quiet and solitude this part of the world offers. However, I’m not foolish enough not to realize the brutality of the weather at its worst and the real dangers that exist.
Your channel is steadily becoming my "favourite place" on all of the internet! Just put it on the TV, get a cup of tea (or coffee...) and unwind. It´s just lovely! 🤍
Holy cow having your house all to yourself is gold! Whenever I get my house all to myself I deep clean the whole entire house. And it seriously doesn't need it all that much cause I keep my house organized and clleaned up. But I usually dust the Windex everything in the house. Thrn i eash sll my bedding then i vacuum my house and mpo sll the floors as well. Then i sterilize and clean my kitchen and bathroom. Then i take a really good shower and then wash all my clothes and put on a crockpot mesl thst lasts me for days. So I don't have to cook everyday to make it a lot easier on me. When everything is done. On the first day all to myself i stsrt really enjoying the house all to myself having everything done. Thrn the rest of the time all to myself i can rest watch tv read a book. Eat whenever I get hungry and sleep and take naps and just enjoy sitting around a clean house. Which makes it nicer to get everything done and just relax for the rest of the time i have to myself. I really love having me time getting to go to bed whenever I want to. And staying up all hours of the night without bothering anyone in the house. It's fantastic spending quality time with to yourself i exspecailly love it.
Hey Cecilia and Grim! Your little "Grim's Bistro" scene out on the deck, complete with menu, was so cute. He's just adorable! Here in Louisiana, I usually wash and pack away my winter things in March. During the warm months, I usually live as a night owl, so your room darkening blinds and shades tip was appreciated. Our blinds are currently white, so I'll just redecorate my bedroom. Can't wait to see your race video. Bright blessings. 💖

Hi Cecilia, to cut down on the nighttime sunshine, would you consider putting pull down shades on your kitchen windows? Perhaps, if you gradually lowered them throughout the evening, it would help your brain to know it’s night. Just as you added extra lights around the house for the polar nights, maybe you could put shades on all the windows for polar days.

The cheese slicer! We always used it at my grandmother’s house (Swedish). I’ve never seen anyone else’s family have one. Only grandma Lyda. My mother inherited it, so yes we still have it, and the ones you see at the grocery store aren’t the same. Cheap cheap cheap! I’ve not seen them at IKEA, but I haven’t been looking either! 😊

I wonder if it would help the circadian rhythm if you were to get blackout curtains/shades for the living space too. You could close them a few hours before your ideal bed time to trick your body into thinking that night has fallen and it's time to wind down.

Thanks for sharing your day with us! When I worked graveyard (night shift) and had to sleep during the day, I put aluminum foil on my bedroom window. That really helped block out ALL of the light!
Haven't been on here in awhile.....had a complete knee replacement(second knee in two years).....lots of therapy and exercises! I cant stay away from your blog long.....this raw nature is so. Beautiful and your life is so enteresting!!

Thank you for sharing your day with us. It’s like night shift life. I work 12 hour night shifts several times a week and it’s extremely hard to sleep during the bright sunny days especially living in an apartment with very noisy neighbors. It’s challenging to block out the noise and sunlight. 💕🤗

The real question….How did your race go??? I am excited to find out, as I am a runner as well, have completed the Dopey, which is a 5k, 10k,1/2 and whole in 4 days. Training at the end was delayed do to an injury, so understand the wing it theory. Hope you had a great time😊

I truly understand the difficulties sleeping during the polar day. When I lived in Iceland, I had the same problem and never felt rested.

The blue light is what will mess up your sleep rhythms and will prevent you from getting good rest. I have worked as a truck driver for about 15 years and many times I have to sleep during the daylight hours. The only way to get good rest is to block all the light possible.
You might try some better shades in you bedroom. The ones you have block most of the light but even that small amount it doesn't block will affect your sleep. You need some good blackout curtains / window coverings.

Such a treat to see your post. I used to work 3rd shift, so I slept during the day. When I left 3rd, I struggled with sleeping at night. Several years ago I finally found my what works, I rise at 4am and go to bed about 11pm. WOW, awesome job on tidying up the entryway. LOVE the handmade items. So special!
