The thing about these early Divinity fights is that you don't know much about the inner workings of the game. Let me just list some more advanced tips: 1) If you engage in conversation with an enemy before an inevitable fight, you can buff the ever living crap out of the character in dialogue and the buffs won't tick down. You can also modify the environment with either water, oil, or poison without enemies noticing you as long as you neither attack directly in front of them or hit them with the attack. Rain in particular is great for certain fights if you have a high level Aerotheuge in your party. 2) Having 2 levels in Aerotheurge is practically mandatory for any build due to Teleportation, Nether Swap, and Uncanny Evasion. These skills are practically the penultimate in battlefield manipulation and are essential tools for setting up combos or staying alive in a pinch. 3) Jar of Mind Maggots + Empty Grenade = A 4 turn charm grenade with massive range. This thing is amazing at trivializing difficult fights. Make sure not to sell them though because there's a very limited number of them that spawn throughout the game. 4) Instantaneous movement skills such as Tactical Retreat, Cloak and Dagger, and Phoenix Dive are pretty much required for any build to have at least one of. Ranged builds should definitely take advantage of the Huntsman requirement to gain Height damage boosts as well as Tactical Retreat, where as physical type players would benefit most from either using Phoenix Dive or Spread your Wings. Cloak and Dagger is most useful when positioning yourself for a preemptive strike against a group of enemies, but is typically the weakest of all the movement skills when outside of sneaking or invisibility. 5) On Classic or harder difficulties, you can cheese out a ton of rare gear by either late in Act 1 or early in Act 2 and onwards by investing heavily in Lucky Charm on one of your party members. At around 6 or 7 points invested, you will start to see Legendary items drop pretty frequently, allowing you to adequately gear your team through the drops alone, or from the gold that you would get from selling them. 6) Raise your attitude with crucial vendors who you want to either sell to or buy from. For a fraction of the price in either gold or goods (typically goods is better since donations are given at a non-diminished value), you can donate to a character to improve their prices on items when buying or selling. This is on top of and despite the Bartering skill, allowing you to essentially avoid the Bartering skill for the entirety of Act 1 until you can take advantage of the mirror on the Lady Vengeance. Keep in mind though, if you get in combat with any NPC and Flee, they will instantly drop to -45 attitude despite their previous number. 7) Make your own pixie dust as much as possible. You can create bone & star dust by combining Mortar and Pestle with any bone or stardust herb respectively. This is important because these materials are used in refining runes into a higher rank or creating runes from scratch. 8) Herb mixes can be stocked up in the Undertavern in Act 2. When combining these with a drudanae pipe, you can get a strong 50 turn duration buff which can be used on much harder fights in order to trivialize them. You can also combine these herb mixes with certain void-tainted fish in order to make them a 100 turn duration (just keep trying to combine the herb mixes with every different kind of void-tainted fish to find out the recipes).
@@Yuras649 Yeah... I have been playing the last 3-4 days and I have a better grasp of how the game works. But tbh I spent half of the time reading guides/builds. It has been worth so far! Super fun game
My first play through i watched videos like this to help cut the learning curve but one of my favorite things that I found on my own was when I decided to make Thane my lockpicking guy. To my surprise he doesn’t need any lock picks and just uses his finger bones to pick locks
I just bought divinity 2. I spent fifteen minutes on tactical killing a sheep as fane on the boat and then killing nearly everything else with necromancy. Best game.

Fextralife, your existence is an immeasurable boon to the gaming community. A heartfelt thanks for the enormous amount of absolute top tier quality you put out. If I had the means, I'd support your work financially to a great degree (it saddens me that I don't, unfortunately, have these means)
Wow really? I am a few hours into the game and didn't even realize during character creation that you could change the race and skills of your characters..
here's the most valuable tip imho. when you finish. if you think you wasted some level points up in fort joy you do not despair. you board a ship to leave fort joy in the end of act 1. there is a mirror in the lowest level of that ship you can literally go back there anytime you want and rearrange your whole level points there. I started this game 3 times over without leaving fort joy thinking I fcked up my build and need to start over. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO START OVER you can keep rebuilding your character if you find a cool spell you wanna main along the way. I started with a rogue, died too much then converted that character into a wayfarer ranged spell caster.
I was a jack of all trades summoner pyro. Never lost a fight in fort joy thanks to lone wolf buff. To be honest I did not even know how to sneak so I fought everyone. I was a monster.

great guide, thanks a lot! I was having trouble knowing which skills to set on each of my group members. Chameleon cloak and tactical retreat have been life savers 8^D
Thanks! I played the original release until I got stuck in Wrecker's Cave around level 12 or so, then something else came out and I lost interest. Excited to start a new run and finish the game. I appreciate all these videos for games like Pillars and D:OS2. I pray we continue to get amazing CRPGs like these so you can keep making these tutorials and guides
I won the alexandar fight with almost no hp left simply by throwing the remaining enemy down the walls with teleportation gloves, and having them run back around through the necrofire I managed to bathe the entrance with. That was the moment I realized just how important strategy was and that you can beat enemies far stronger than you using it.
I cannot wait to buy this on payday! Baldur's Gate 3 has got me into cRPG's hard and the wider D&D universe. Growing up I played a lot of turn based games like Heroes of Might and Magic and even Final Fantasy so I have taken to this style of game very quickly. I am very happy to give Larian studios money and will be buying every single game they have ever created. Shame I cannot say the same about FFXIV Dawntrail but their bad writing benefits the creators of these incredible games.
I saw DS2 and i even did not knew of its excistance, so i just bought DS1 just too try it out if this is my sorta game, hell yeah lol. With all the freedome, outcome and leaving you in total darkness, its old school gaming all over again. And that with the technoligy of a ps4 concole, wicked. I thing every old rpg lover would freak out playing this game. It brings so much joy back too my life.
I bought this game about 30 hours in to Baldurs gate 3. I was like hold on this studio needs more of my money. After spending 100s of hours on BG3 I’m about to give this game a go in 2024
This game is a gem. I played it on release I'm playing it now. I'm still flabbergasted. I'm playing an Undead Inquisitor, just to add a bit to the challenge. Guys you dont even need to watch these videos, the game is a MUST BUY if you are a cultured gamer. Its a perfect Gem and the guys from Larian deserve your money. Trust me!
just bought this on a deep sale during summer steam sale event and can't wait to start it! i'm sure i'll enjoy story mode the most and not have to worry about character build, difficult fights and all that. I will still enjoy the combat but i mostly play for story and exploration and environment now
Thank you, very helpful. Had no problem with the magisters after getting the collar removed, but wasn't ready and left Fort Joy too soon and got my butt handed to me.
Still haven't made any real progress in this game as I am super indecisive but really enjoying the Crystalline Cleric with the Hydromania party comp. Thanks Cas your guides helped tremendously!
I've only played for maybe 3 hours so far. I picked a pyromancer for my first character. I take comfort in the fact that when they kill me easily they are mildly inconvenienced by the fact that they are on fire. For real though it's been a struggle. There was no indication that this was a bad idea in character creation. Fire just seemed like a standard choice.
Thank you for this. I played DOS1 about a month ago but I found the mechanics overwhelming and I stopped playing because of it. When I saw that DOS2 had such high ratings and was recommended by a lot of people, I figured I couldn't miss out. So I started playing 2 and I'm still struggling in and around fort joy, really takes some getting used to. Your guide gave me advice on how to proceed, I'm going to build a new character now. The only thing that's missing are your party formations, I can't recall how many times I've been AOD' at the beginning of combat because my formation was fucked up, I had no idea that was a thing. I would've wished you said a little more on party composition as well, but ah well.
The beginning area of the game is a true test imo, and I got my ass handed to me, and I also came from playing the first game. This guide is specifically designed for players like us xD
Just bought this game yesterday because I played baulders gate 3 and thought it was the greatest game I've ever played in my life and I have to say that DOS2 is right on par with BG3...I have absolutely fallen in love with CRPGs because of this studio that created these masterpieces...I do have a question... should I play a custom character or should I play one of the ones already made? I want to create a custom character but I heard it's better to play one of the already created Characters and I'm not sure what to do
Tip for anyone planning on taking long breaks from this game: Take notes! How you are using/building your characters, organize inventory where perhaps a character holds all items you plan to sell, craft, etc. Where you are in the story and quests you are focusing on. Reason: after a 2 year hiatus, I found myself to concerned with screwing up my progress/build/inventory I never touched my save. Sure you can make another one but its a rough game to learn let alone start over. I forgot have the stuff dudes talking bout smh.
As a newbie that just recently done all I can in Fort Joy Ghetto, my best advice is to TAKE IT SLOW. Because I'm the player that like to brute-force my way through challenges, rather than do the rational thing of coming back later, I wasted almost 2 hours fighting the Magisters on the shipwreck with the elf when I was level 1 with two party members. Needless to say, I got my ass handed to me over and over again.
@AstarionWifey Absolutely not. Most of those 50 hours were just spent pickpocketing and reloading saves. "Taking it slow" varies from person to person. Just play the game how you want to play. Learning how the game works is more valuable than doing what's the most optimized
Win Button, Get Ifan, make him 2h Slayer, get lonewolf, executioner perk, get scoundrel for adrenalin and movement.(Heading for crit damage, not chance) Get Sebille, make her Necromancer, Polymorph, High defense, pick lone wolf perk, and make sure you enrage Ifan as much as possible, You will 1-2 hit almost everything.(Support Ifan with living on the edge and use teleport gloves from the crocs to manage early crowds) Taking Ifan and Sebille for story, its quite enjoyable. Also I only play on tactician mode, so, even that its too easy, no problem killing 2-3 enemies higher.
For those who struggle in the beginning I recommend either making a dwarf custom character or taking a point into sneak in character creation. There is a point where you can steal items from the origin characters and I recommend it, take it all. After getting to fort joy you can recruit then and they'll have an inventory once again. If you don't plan on taking someone like beast for example recruit him anyway so you can grab extra items. If this has changed in the new version someone please correct me.
My 2 cents - unless you're playing the hardest dificulty mode and min-maxing, go for roleplay and the origin stories you consider more interesting. Me, I choose Lose over Sebille even if Sebille make the game's best ranger (elf racial + elemental ranger is crazy good). Didn't regret it, Lose has such a cool origin slotyline with her inner demon.
If you wanna have some real fun, get deep into crafting and the items you can make will BLOW your mind. Jar of Mind Maggots, turn it into a grenade, 8m radius explosion, sets Charmed 4 turns !!! Insane ! You won't get many but the day you need them, the effect will be memorable :) So many more amazing grenades and consumables that deepen your playthrough and experience.
Pretty much useless for actual beginners, just call this video ''useful skills to take in Divinity Original Sin 2'' because that's all you really talk about.
This explains a lot because I was a new player playing with friends that started with pyro then with necromancy so I only started recently trying to get some other skills to add in.
newbie here, just started the game, and here is my current party (which dies a lot): - red prince (my PC): conjurer, summoning skills - ifan: ranger, warfare skill - sebille: rogue, warfare skill - lohse: wizard, air and water Was considering swapping one of them for fane (lock the lockpicks, maybe Ifan, so the Red Prince can multiclass with ranger) and have him as an inquisitor. any suggestions on how to improve my team will be most welcomed! thanks!
UUUUUGH i JUST bought this game after MUCH concideration. And now i am VERY intrigued with Sebille and the human woman premade characters...They are dope af. And my first playtrough will be dope with Sebille...BUT. I simply CAN'T decide on a starter class. Like summoning shit is dope. But so is necromancing. But so is polymorphing. But so is wearing heavy armor and greatswords....
I just ordered this from Amazon and I couldn't be more excited to play........but its been awhile since I played Turn-Based, hopefully between this guide and just playing/experimenting in-game, I will have fun!! So many people have said great things about DOS 2 that I had to try it out.
This is my second playthrough so I'm role-playing extra hard rather than min/maxing. I'm an assassin necromancer Sebille and I just murdered the shit out of the Red Prince after his slave comments lol. I'm taking Ifan and Beast because I never took them during my first playthrough so I'd like to see their quests. And Lohse obviously, because she's awesome and her personal questline is my favourite. I haven't made my mind up on their composition and skills though...I'd like to do something a bit different and interesting to suit their characters but for now they're just default.
You say don’t lead with battering ram so you don’t “waste the CC” but you don’t say what CC is. Isn’t this supposed to be for beginners and not jargon aficionados?
These are all great tips I wish I knew before I'd started. I now find myself at 3rd level, having spent all my precious gold on decent armor (since my squad keeps getting squished) and now I realize I should have spent some of that gold on skill books that I wasn't psychic enough to choose during character creation. So now I can't seem to beat anyone else to get more gold to buy the skilll books I need. My main question here: Where in blazes can I get more gold?
The Spectre Silver not in the first act. Just two groups have serious fire resistance in the first act you will know when u see them. Any fire mages, which you run into less than other elemental mages in the first act. I can remember 2 fire mages.
The Spectre Silver True it doesn’t have hard disables but if you can get it on the ground and enemies have to walk on it to get to you it can destroy an enemies shield and health with the damage tics.
Still, the lack of hard disables makes it a bit difficult to kill some bosses. I do find Geomancer's hard disables to be gimmicky though, it does magical damage, but the disable is a physical armor one. Hydro and Aero have great disables, even though it requires the target to have a condition such as wet, chilled, or shocked. But can lack a little in the damage department, since neither have DOT. Fire is great if you can position properly though
I just bought this on Steam Deck, I'm super new to this style of game but I think I'll like it. Saying that, this "guide" has left me confused and a little scared
At least you got outta the first real zone, I'm still stuck on the beach with a weakass storm mage, getting routinely cutbstomped by an angry cannibal.
@@L0-C01 lol, I gave up. I really preferred the first game, it made more sense. The whole magical armour thing in this one is just kinda awful, and the fact that your starting abilities seriously determine how well you're gonna do for a while means that you need to have quite a bit of knowledge to actually make a decent starting character. Game was just too frustrating.
@@a_fuckin_spacemarine7514 haha I don’t even know what magical armour is so I would have been ruined by the sound of it. After watching this video it kind of made me want to try again but I remembered it being nightmarish last time haha

I played divinity original sin 1 long back. It's very tough in the initial stages even in normal difficulty but later on it gets a bit easier. I wish they had added moving blocks like wasteland 2.
When you start a new game head to the gate of the joy. Go to the right side of the stairs there should be a ladder. Use it, And you can completely avoid talking to the bishop when you start. Once your in joy. Level up to 5 without leaving the joy (*NOTE I never left joy it might still work if ya come back) . Now when you return they should still be talking. Take the ladder again and hopefully your ready. fortify your ranged units and attack the ghiest. Make sure you can keep them fortified because the bishop knows nether swap. Which is a teleport spell and with the effect fortified you cannot be teleported. Now at this point the magisters should either be taking the ladder or the long way to you. this will take 3 turns for them to attack your group (5 or 6 for the long way) But they should not be a problem cause of your high level the problem are the gheist with there high burst damage. Your goal is to kill the gheist. They know backlash so they will be teleporting to you. If you have the skill teleport deal with them one at a time by throwing one of them back to the bishop. The hammer for some reason cannot use ladders so she will not be scary unless you get close to her. By now you should have one ghiest attacking you and the other already used backlash. Focus your attacks on the first ghiest and make sure you have plenty of stuns. Since they are level 8 they have no problem killing you with 4 ap. Once you kill 1 you should INSTANTLY turn level 6 restoring all of your health. This should take 3 turns to kill him if not then then the other ghiest will appear. If you have a summoner leaver your totem behind your group and your summon should stay with your group so they can apply the flanking bonus to the ghiest. The magisters will chip at you but you MUST kill the ghiest first or you will lose. Once both are dead target either the bishop or the hammer. Once either one of them hits half health they will flee. And you will have achieved the achievement Hammered. she will also leave her weapon behind , Its gives + 2 in strength , Intelligence and necromancy. If you just want to cheese it follow the guide but in story difficulty. You will still reap the awards. And don't forget to stock up on potions.
Ozone Grif I may start over and choose story mode. I’m playing classic mode currently and my party keeps getting wiped out. We’re all level 2. Any tips? I wanna keep playing the game and not quit out of frustration
It's not an easy game. Learn the strengths and weaknesses of your characters. Use everything the game offers to win a fight. If you lose, that's probably because you did something wrong. Everytime you get hit badly, try to consider what got you in this situation. It's definitely not a game where you run into the enemies blindly; it's a tactical game.
Howdy friend. Thanks so much for all of the time and effort. I was wondering if the dual weilding dagger build is up to date? I just purchased the game about 2 weeks ago and have logged over 64 hours with my bestfriend. I do not see the need for super high wits with the dual weilding dagger rouge because of the backstab...battle stomp and cloak and dagger abilities. I instead pumped those points into finesse and constitution with some into memory. Am I doing it wrong?
Choosing a class, attributes, skills, etc before beginning an RPG is like being forced to choose your college major when you are 10 years old: Unreasonable and unfair to expect anyone to make an informed decision with so little knowledge and experience, almost guaranteeing you’ll have regrets later. It’s still my favorite genre, but it’s very, very irritating unless you can alter the choices you’ve made mid-game. This video is an example of that. So... ... If you want to make the learning curve softer, start on explorer and switch to classic once you have some equipment. Starting on classic may give you a bad impression if you’ve never played before but stick with it. Remember that all RPGs on a harder difficulty (Witcher 3’s hardest difficulty comes to mind), are only brutal until you get the hang of it. Smart playing can even make you OP. Do whatever you can to keep playing because persistence will be rewarded with one of greatest RPGs in gaming and quitting would be a damn shame.

My first play through i watched videos like this to help cut the learning curve but one of my favorite things that I found on my own was when I decided to make Thane my lockpicking guy. To my surprise he doesn’t need any lock picks and just uses his finger bones to pick locks
Just about to play this game for the first time. I’ve been hearing about it for years and now it’s time!

here's the most valuable tip imho. when you finish. if you think you wasted some level points up in fort joy you do not despair. you board a ship to leave fort joy in the end of act 1. there is a mirror in the lowest level of that ship you can literally go back there anytime you want and rearrange your whole level points there.

Thanks man!! I just picked this up and I’ve always been able to rely on you for help!! GREAT VIDEO
this guide did not feel like a guide...
1. Gloves of teleportation is ur bff in the begining
I just purchased this game because I wanted something different, so thank you for the video because I was confused.
I will still enjoy the combat but i mostly play for story and exploration and environment now
How’d you like it?
Just got this game on Xbox, I'm hooked on it. Highly recommend it to anyone who likes Diablo 2
Thank you for the clean audio, was such a pleasure to listen to this!
Thank you, very helpful. Had no problem with the magisters after getting the collar removed, but wasn't ready and left Fort Joy too soon and got my butt handed to me.
It's called Fort Joy for a reason: it is the only (slightly) noob-friendly place in DOS2.
Just subbed. I just started playing and im so amazed at every aspect of this game so far. Thanks for the guides, I definitely need them lol
Just starting this game now while on lockdown, very helpful video, thanks.
Still haven't made any real progress in this game as I am super indecisive but really enjoying the Crystalline Cleric with the Hydromania party comp. Thanks Cas your guides helped tremendously!
I love the background music you used bro !!
Also thanks for the help :)
I just started playing, and omg, I should have look tips before, my game is a freakin bloodbath...
Thanks great video

This is my new fav channel. ACG is pretty good for reviews
How slow tho? 😂
@@AstarionWifey It took me 50 hours to leave Fort Joy, so...
@@RottenPieceof the heck??? How??? I mean I just started but I didn’t think I need to take that long 🤣
@AstarionWifey Absolutely not. Most of those 50 hours were just spent pickpocketing and reloading saves.
"Taking it slow" varies from person to person. Just play the game how you want to play. Learning how the game works is more valuable than doing what's the most optimized
From 2021 I thank you i just started! And I can't wait to dive into the game more!
Win Button, Get Ifan, make him 2h Slayer, get lonewolf, executioner perk, get scoundrel for adrenalin and movement.(Heading for crit damage, not chance)
Get Sebille, make her Necromancer, Polymorph, High defense, pick lone wolf perk, and make sure you enrage Ifan as much as possible, You will 1-2 hit almost everything.(Support Ifan with living on the edge and use teleport gloves from the crocs to manage early crowds)
Taking Ifan and Sebille for story, its quite enjoyable. Also I only play on tactician mode, so, even that its too easy, no problem killing 2-3 enemies higher.
Thanks for making all these guides!
The entire game downloaded and installed whilst viewing this upload!
If this has changed in the new version someone please correct me.
gave up years ago, didnt get very far. got a backlog of games but im here watching and seeing if i can try again so more ready for balders gate 3
Just got this game. Luckily I am not far in yet. Very good information.
Pyro can also combine with poison and oil for even more damage.
So I'm really liking how easy it is to dabble in a few things as well as having your main build
I agree
Yo! Thanks for not saying "Hey guys" in the beginning.
OMG my girlfriend notices this!
Why though?
If you wanna have some real fun, get deep into crafting and the items you can make will BLOW your mind. Jar of Mind Maggots, turn it into a grenade, 8m radius explosion, sets Charmed 4 turns !!! Insane ! You won't get many but the day you need them, the effect will be memorable :) So many more amazing grenades and consumables that deepen your playthrough and experience.
Pretty much useless for actual beginners, just call this video ''useful skills to take in Divinity Original Sin 2'' because that's all you really talk about.
This explains a lot because I was a new player playing with friends that started with pyro then with necromancy so I only started recently trying to get some other skills to add in.
newbie here, just started the game, and here is my current party (which dies a lot):
- red prince (my PC): conjurer, summoning skills
- ifan: ranger, warfare skill
- sebille: rogue, warfare skill
- lohse: wizard, air and water
Was considering swapping one of them for fane (lock the lockpicks, maybe Ifan, so the Red Prince can multiclass with ranger) and have him as an inquisitor. any suggestions on how to improve my team will be most welcomed!
But so is wearing heavy armor and greatswords....
wolfie metslagroom Enchanter is an excellent class. That’s who I classes her as. What did you end up with?
Wait red prince slave people oh hell no i slit his throat now😂
Most Lizards slave people, it is their culture. The elves are usually (If not always I think) the slaves

Man… I’m going to have to start completely over
Finally I got the game yesterday!!!
I dunno why i waited so long to play this game. Glad i did a blind playthrough first, now i can try to master some mechanics
Pyro skills also deal more damage than the other elements in general
But many enemies have resistance to it, and it doesnt have any hard disables from what i remember
I just bought this game and holy shit thanks for this guide I have no idea how to spec my character

Just bought this game, never have i bought a turn based game in my life hope its worth it
When you start a new game head to the gate of the joy.

Ozone Grif what is the easiest way to get the collars off?
Win the Arena, then go see the smith. She will happily remove your collar.
Ozone Grif ok thanks. Is story mode the easier difficulty?
I want this level of RPG mechanics/abilities/spells etc in Elder Scrolls 6.
