Here's a pro-tip for ya Donny, when pulling E clips or c rings put a magnet directly in its path. Never lose one again. My mag/demagnetizer cost like $3. Or tear apart a blown speaker for a free magnet.

I am sure the customer is happy now! The 23rs pro chain is fantastic. One could probably invest in a Sugihara light bar at that price. If I use grease on that bearing the next time I take it apart I find it all over the clutch shoes and the bearing is dry. I have even tried the thickest/tackiest wheel bearing grease with the same result. I have resorted to using silicone spray and a few drops of chain oil on it now. 👍
Wow, talk about neglect 😬. I’ve managed to find a few things that made it to the curb that were and easy fix. I’ve been a recent convert to Stihl and can’t believe the prices on replacement parts but they are of great quality and should be for the cost.
I've had my chain freeze to the bar when I took a break to stack some wood while cutting in the snowy conditions. That was fun...but a little time sitting beside the fire took care of that. Not rusted but had the same effect...took me a bit of time to figure it out at first...lol. Cheers from NB

The gal in Canada her shop got a brand new stihl chainsaw and the costumer said he had less than 20 hour run time. She tore it down and found the connecting rod broke at the crankshaft. She went ahead and gave them another new saw before she contacted stihl, which they said that was fine
Wow I can't believe you didn't make sure that the oiling system for the chain was working? I am sure you are very familiar with them being plugged up and if the customer put away their saw after using it in the rain the oil didn't repel the water causing it to rust.
Wouldn’t you want to check the oiler and make sure it’s oiling before adding a new bar and chair, especially with all the rust on the old bar and chain?
@@donyboy73 I would have assumed maybe you checked it off camera before you assembled it. Every time I put a new chair on one of my saws I check to make sure it is oiling.

Always a good idea to compare different replacement parts if the option is available or a person isn’t using a saw on a professional level.

Why the heck do they use an odd number of drive links? In the good old days we had either 11", 13" or 15" bars for the .325 chains to keep the number of cutters even, left and right. There is no justification to use 16" bars on these saws. Are Stihl flirting with the middle of the road pack?
Basically money. This keeps owners coming back to dealers for the chains. While at the dealership they also purchase Stihl mix and bar oil. Oh, there's also walking past the new saws on display.

Actually, that Stihl bar is almost the same price if you convert it to USD. Stihl OEM parts prices are crazy, who do they think they are, John Deere or Honda? I'd go Oregon every time unless the customer demands the right to pay more.
Yeah, it's a $2 difference. Canadians always seem to think they're getting ripped off, but a lot of things are cheaper there than the US. Which makes zero sense, given the difference in economies of scale.
I did see this allot in Construction Saws. A combination of cutting treated lumber, and Carpenters that weren't used to protecting or storing Forestry equipment in the elements, or properly maintaining gas powered equipment. Nobody thought it was their responsibility unfortunately ! 😤
Morning donyboy73. I had same experience with my next door neighbor. I am just a old timer and showed him the problem. He bought the new parts inside and out. Cleaned up and put back together. To my surprise got a bonus from him. Always something with people that don't take a little time to take care of the equipment. 😮😢🦅🦅🦅🫠
I'm not trying to insult, but this customer is a perfect candidate for a battery saw. He doesn't want to learn even the basics of operation and maintenance, and a battery saw is something that will work for him for a few years and then he can throw it away and buy another.

Not Really. 🤷🏼♂️ You still have to maintain the bar and chain, and most Battery Saws have thinner bars and chains that are quite honestly a bit fragile in comparison. 😕 Most are optimized specifically for electric motors, and opt for speed, and low surface area, over torque, and strength. Cordless tools have their own quirks, and challenges. Not the least of which is the SAME "Apathetic" operator. 😒
FTR: "Quality" Cordless Tools ARE Expensive and anything but throw aways ! 😳 I DO follow your observation certainly, but there aren't many solutions for Operator Error... 🤷🏼♂️ Nothing is ever truly Idiot Proof... Merely Idiot "Resistant" ! 😉

Don't forget about the lubrication / grease hole in the bar tip........ many don't even know about that.
