Had one of these guys for a year now and it's wonderful. Lovely having something I can have on me everywhere. I agree about the build though - mine's pretty dinged up after a year of use and abuse! I'd say it is pretty easy to get dust stuck in it. I'm getting mine sent off for cleaning soon. Don't put it in a pocket without a case or it'll pick up all sorts!
Switched to Ricoh after years of Micro 4/3 andventure (and having FF Canon as main camera) and absolutely love it. Amazing photos, great focal length. And the form factor is perfect for pocket!
I just bought the Godox Lux Junior flash - it's really small and light, works perfectly and looks pretty cool - no TTL or (real) auto mode but the manual dials are easy to understand
Just back from the Greenland and Copenhagen trip. I used the Sony A7RIV in Greenland and the Ricoh GRiii in Copenhagen. Very happy with the pictures from Ricoh and not having to carry my Sony to the lovely museums made the vacation a lot of more relaxing and fun. Loved soaking in at the Louisiana museum :-).
Definitely recommend investing the the JJC UV stick on filter for this rig. The major issue with dust happened to me the second day I got one of these, and I got a lens cap just for my own sanity. I love this camera though, just something to be aware of!
Love this video! I have had this camera for several months...it's amazing. I'd be curious though if you did go to a JPEG only flow and try to lock in your "film simulation" look on it...if you ever find one you love, I'd love you to do a video on that as well. Love your style and look forward to seeing more you do with this camera!
Always tempted to get this camera (and the Fuji X100 series) but never did. Got the chance of buying a new X100VI but still not sure if this is the right one for me. How do you compare both? My photography got down to just daily memories/snapshots and travel. If the Ricoh would address the AF and build quality.. that would be nice.
I use the Reflex Lab Mini Flash. Its USB C rechargeable which is nice. Only downside is its just a one power flash, you can adjust the intensity. But its small, portable, and pretty cheap. I love the results i get. Makes it feel like a fun little party camera when i bring it out. Edit: I have the original ricoh GR3 28mm so idk how well it would work with the X.
Reflx Labs mini flash is great. It falls off easily which is kind of annoying. Also worth checking out the GT-2 Tele adapter. Makes it more or less non-pocketable, but it would fit in your shoulder bag and attaches to the camera super quick for tighter shots. It activates the crop mode to make it a 75mm, but you can tape over the contacts and it makes it a 60mm lens with little to no vignetting
I also owned the X-T5 and my smallest lens for it is the 18 f2. I really want to have a more smaller set-up for every day carry. I'm looking into the GRIIIX and the Fuji XF27mm f2.8 WR. I believe you've have used the 27mm pancake as well. What can you say about the difference between the two? Obviously the GR is still more compact, but the 27mm will make more sense to me cost wise.
I got the Ricoh but just kept going back to the Sony RX100VI. Viewfinder that pops out, flash that pops out, wide to telephoto in pocket sized camera. I just think it's incredible and so much easier to see what you're doing -- both while taking photos and reviewing them. I *get* the draw to the Ricoh. Simple, paired back. But it feels cheap. It makes me regret not bringing a "real" camera. The sony feels real -- and feels fun. Sold my Ricoh and haven't looked back.
I've got the optical viewfinder but am not a fan. Shots rarely line up as seen through the viewfinder and you end up having to adjust composition in post.
Check out the Reflex Lab Flash! Its relatively cheap, looks great, and gets the job done well! Only $70. Its not the absolute greatest, but not the worst at all. Recycle time can be slow after a lot of use, but its a great value for the money.
I had the X100v for a short while and sold it because it wasn't compact enough and didn't enjoy the shooting experience so much. Just got my hands on the GR IIIx and really liking it so far!
another budget option for a small camera might be the Canon M100 coupled with the 22mm lens (35mm equivalent). The camera is heavier and has no viewfinder, but camera and lens will cost around $300 used and has excellent image quality.
Try x70, tilting screen makes a lot of difference, but its 28 But thanks for showing your photos, now I understand better what to expect with this style of camera and that everything is actually fine with mine (was expecting from myself pics that looks like something that people used to get from medium format, slow approach and etc)
Great video! Will it replace your Fuji APS-C kit? Ricoh has crazy DNG RAW files that have one of the most beatiful adobe profile colors. I even noticed that presets made for Leica/GFX works pretty well on the Ricoh DNG files while it kinda destroys Fuji APS-C RAW files.
I have this and honestly terrible experience so far. Linked with my Q2, superrrr inconsistent with pairing and firing. Eventually found a sweet deal on the same Fuji flash as Sam and Greg Williams.. never looked back
Mhhh what camera is small, has a view finder, a flash and a 35mm lens? Can't think of one ;). JK the Ricoh is great but I knew, that the exact same "problems" would bother me, so I got myself an x100f. Costs ruffly the same (used in Germany) but ticks all the boxes for me.
would be curious to see a side by side with this and the Q3 43 since theyre both in that 40mm ballpark...

Check out the Reflx Lab Mini Flash Gen2. It was a flash made for the Ricoh. Very low profile.
This. The Reflx Lab Mini Flash transformed the usefulness of my GR III.
Yup. I love this flash.
Great video man! Been waiting for someone to go more in-depth on this cam.
Glad it was helpful!

Good video! Just ordered the reflxlab mini flash, maybe try that!

What an amazing colors! Could you share the settings for the jpeg?
The new Godox Flash IM30 Camera Flash Pocket Flash is awesome. Preordered for my Ricoh GRIIIx. Awesome content always.
Thanks Sam for this video. I have the GR III and i like it a lot. Might considering getting IIIx for the 40mm but we'll see.

I use the optical viewfinder all the time. Worth it.
I splashed out on the Squarehood Glass. Yes I realised it was expensive but it’s a great accessory and I would thoroughly recommend it.

Great Video - Thanks! Can you tell us something re the flash setting with the fuji flash? Would be great!!!
Do you think you'll still keep the xt-5? If so, when would you reach for the xt-5 vs ricoh now?

another option for you might be xm-5
Hey Brother. What is the idea behind your love for warm colors in video and photos?
Still rocking my GR II and loving it. Ps - what sling is that!?

any recommendation for Memory cards? i just bought same camera, but im not sure which card i need :(
Nice video Sam👌
what camera did you use for your video at the start, and how did you edit this?

Would be interested to know how you feel about the Ricoh versus the Fuji X100VI?

looks like a great camera to capture daily life with! Can you do another tutorial on how you edit your photos? :) Would help a lot!
I tryed it, but still prefer the X-E4 + 27mm pancake

Ricoh stabilizer is no slouch, you can do low light handheld on fixed subjects
No link to that photos.👀
lightpix lab q20II
