Every City & Town with Ham at the end , should be pronounced with an " umm" as with " BuckingUMM"
I generally eat Hot cross buns two ways. Either just sliced in half and buttered or Sliced in half, toasted and buttered (the best way).
Got to say, I loved that first attempt at 'Buckingham'.
It sort of over-achieved and I wouldn't have thought that was possible.
It was delightful.
I’m impressed that she’s got such consideration for the nitpickers. They obviously don’t have much of a life. As for you I love your enthusiasm for our islands and really hope you get to visit sometime.
Most Americans tend to pronounce the shires with the emphasis on the ham. As other people have said, it's usually pronounced as Buckingum, Wokingum, Birmingum. However, it doesn't really matter. Speaking is about communicating, and as long we understand each other, that's all that matters.
In her video, the lady asks if there's anything else Americans mispronounce. SHIRE is pronounced Sheer, (ignore the Lord of the rings and the Hobbit). Monarch is pronounced Monuck. In the UK, we pronounce Jaguar as Jaguar, with the A as in Apple, not as Jagwah. And we don't put an emphasis on the O in Python. But as I said, as long as everyone knows what's being discussed, that's all that matters.
For what it's worth, Big Ben is a sibling of the Liberty Bell in Pittsburgh. They were both cast in the Whitechapel Foundry which is on Commercial Road. The building is still there and I walk past it from time to time. I don't know if they still make bells there..
Lol, as it was for the Americans the quality control was lower, hence the Liberty Bell cracking 🤣 (joke for the comedy challenged).
All that stuff about New York State. That’s a RUclips series you could make. I don’t see many RUclips series about rural / historical / geological aspects of the US but plenty about the UK. Am I missing something or are they not out there?
Duhhh! There King doesn’t always live in Buckingham Palace but the majority of the work the King does is from Buckingham Palace. It is also the office of the King who is our Head of State. So…his staff also work there.
Buckingham Place is essentially our “White House”.
That’s why the guards are there…to protect the King when he is in Buckingham Palace.😂😂😂
We only look at you like cavemen when you cut your food ,swap , then shovel food with your right hand 😂👍
And never using a knife either... only 'cutting' with the fork !!!
We inbritain also call it big Ben, you have too be really picky too actually say no that Elizabeth Tower. It's just a form of showing off.
100%. Never heard it called anything else but Big Ben.
Yes, we do. You're just uneducated.
Well said. The internet seems to me to be full of self-righteous pedants, desperate to score cheap points. 🙄 This American Lady is charming and I actually felt ashamed that my fellow Brits had been so horrible to her.
Even if the king didn’t live there there still would be guards due to the works of art worth tens of millions inside the Palace. As for hot cross buns they are eaten by Christian’s on Good Friday. The cross is usually piped using a flour and water paste but can also be made from shortcrust pastry. For Christians, the cross represents the crucifixion of Jesus. The spices inside the buns symbolise the spices put on the body of Jesus after he died. The buns are best served hot, hence how they received their name.
South east England- south west England is totally different from the south east. It’s the Union flag on land, it’s only the Union Jack at sea. It’s like places that end in shire are pronounced shir
the flag thing is not true, look it up.
Your comment about New York State is good. I've known pretty much all my life that there's New York City and New York State, but other than it's existence, I don't know anything about it. Something I will try to correct.
I still think the best way to eat hot crossed buns is sliced in half, with a fishcake in the middle, like a burger, with melty cheese even. Had them like that in Bermuda as a kid 50 years ago, it still works.
Our Flag is called The Union Flag, it's only called the Union Jack when flown on any British registered Ships especially on all HRH Navy's ships ⚓ but when the King is not in Residence at Buckingham Palace the Union Flag is in place, the Union Flag is always flown on Parliamentary and other Government Buildings around the UK.
The Elizabeth Tower as it is now officially called was before known as St Stevens Tower, but because a lot of people didn't know the official name it was commonly known at the Clock Tower.
🇬🇧🧐
And the building is the palace of Westminster not Westminster Abbey
Actually, that was the case. These days it's accepted as union flag or union jack wherever it's flown.
Sorry, but you are about 200 years out of date. The flag of the United Kingdom is officially recognised as the Union JACK, wherever and whenever flown throughout the world. It is a common misconception (urban myth) still being spread, innocently, like here... Winston Churchill ALWAYS referred to it as the Union Jack, the issue was brought up in parliament in the early 1900's. The Flag Institute (the vexillologist organisation), often have to assert that Union Jack AND Union Flag are both correct terms, and have been for over 200 years... 🤔 Just saying. 😊
More likely to see a Pakistani flag in London than the union flag 🇬🇧🏴
@@CarolWoosey-ck2rg and your point is?
Buckingham or any ending in ham is um.
So
Buckingum. Remember NOT to say Buckin-Gum or Birmin-Gum
Hampshire - 'Ampshire, as a native of 'Ampshire ('Ampsher) but most of the rest of the coutry use the H - Hampshire ("Hampsher").
What's wrong with room temperature hot cross buns? It's the same as a room temperature sandwich. Some people are just full of it.
It's edible at room temp. It's delicious toasted and buttered.
I would love to see how the critics & pedantics fare in the US. Most Brits wouldn't know the Big Ben thing. Tickles me when US folks call our village EastHAM. Its Eastum. What do you expect they are reading what the sign says! LOL!
We don't have assassins here.
We've imported a few over the last decade or so.
@@lbewl7374certainly have!

Our Hotels normally include a choice for breakfasts in the cost, but buying stuff for breakfast from a supermarket Why??
Hot cross buns, sliced toasted and eaten with lashings of butter that is starting to melt
Union FLAG not jack- the jack is on a ship 🇬🇧🏴
not true look it up.
@@barriehull7076it is mate , you look it up!
WRONG! Union Jack OR Flag; both are correct. That is a 200 year old 'out-of-date'. urban myth still being spread (innocently) by people who have not bothered to check... LOL Winston Churchill would always call it the Union Jack. It was even confirmed (in the early 1900's), as a parlimentary question in the House of Commons! The 'Flag Institute' (the international vexillologists experts), constantly have to explain that; "whenever or wherever the flag of the United Kingdom is flown throughout the world, it is correct to call it the Union Flag OR Union Jack..." - Just saying 🤔😃
Wokingham is not pronounced wok ing ham it’s pronounced woke ing um
you don't warm up a hot cross bun it's eaten cold as it is and definitely no butter it's a bun eat with a hot cuppa 😂😂😂😂😂
Hot cross buns are designed to be toasted and eaten hot. That's why they're called *HOT* cross buns. If you prefer yours cold and no butter, that's fine, that's up to you, but it's not the usual way to eat them.
