Feel like Sean maguire could have stayed longer I think he would have been a big character in the mid 90s could have seen him fitting in with the Bianca, Tiffany era characters

I think Sean Maguire was offered a contract extension but turned it down to pursue a pop career

Why was Sam even with Ricky? She seemed like she despised him! Also when Pete was dancing with that woman his voice proper sounded like his son David! He didn’t usually. Thought it was David at first when he started talking! Lol

Can see why Pete was axed the show had lost its way at this point and the Arthur affair storyline definitely revived the show to follow on with the sharongate storyline

Pete wasn’t the reason why Eastenders lost its way. It was totally stupid to axe Pete as he was a central character from the beginning. Plus he if he had stayed he would have got to meet his son David as an adult. Not to mention his granddaughter Bianca.

I agree; I think it's interesting that out of all of the original characters, he was the one that probably developed the least over that time. I think it's one of the reasons why later characters like Ted Hills didn't really work- the East End was changing by the mid-90s and the likes of Pete (and Den had he still been around) weren't really representative of that part of London anymore.

There was some utter drivel amongst the decent stories. Nigels arc was good with liam and debbie but that nonsense with michelle amsterdam and big dopey clem was ridiculous. The jeff romance was equally as odd but better than the uni crowd on tour. Peggy came along 94 and then the david wicks and bianca reveal and it improved hugely.

@@bensmithkent22agree I think once Den left in 1989 the show struggled big time and went through character churn relying on the fowlers, grant, Sharon and Phil to provide the explosive storylines. I don’t think the show recovered until 1994 with the Michelle stabbing storyline
