- George Summers wins the 1983 Thompson BFI World Series at Thompson Speedway - the last race of his 31-year career. Russ Dowd and me with the call on this KGM video.
The ending of an era 82 83 84 85. The lose of some of the best drivers of series changed the sport . Im so glad that as a child in the late 70s and a teen early 80s i got to witness the greats race the tracks of NY state.
I remember George from mid 1970s Seekonk speedway car #21.
I was there, practicality lived at the track 1980 to 1985 . Those were the best times!
THANKS for posting this !
ah the good ole days
when cars were caaaaazzz
and tires were tiiieeeerrz ,,
and archie bunker was on tv
George was a great competitor and a class act..
What year did they put the walls up in turn 1-2? I thought the sand banks were still there in 83. I was so lucky to have grown up during this era. We were at the tracks every weekend. Thompson and Seekonk nearly every week. Then we would try and hit Stafford or Riverside Park once or twice a year.
The names there that day was just amazing! It was truly the hayday of modified racing!
Hi I was wondering if I could use some of your clips on a video project I'm working on the beginning of this race season?
Sure thing - this one was shot by KGM Video, not me. I was one of the announcers along with Russ Dowd. -Rich
Ok thank you very much! I will give you credit if I use any of this, I'll also reach out to KGM to see if they have some other clips I'm looking for. I appreciate it!
