I would suggest to anyone with a bag that they no longer have use for, they might consider donating to a charity that helps homeless children or children in foster care. When these poor kiddos are moved from place to place, they put their personal belongings in a plastic garbage bag. Personally, I find that really pathetic. It sends the message that they’re not worry of anything nice.
I bought the July Carry-on Light Expandable in March but in multiple weeks of constant use in Europe I discovered its serious shortcomings and the near-uselessness of July's 100-day return option. Perhaps this mini-review-within-a-comment will be helpful to others considering this bag. Let me start with the least-important drawbacks: 1. When the two zippered compartments are both open they partially block access to one half of the bag or the other. This makes it more complicated to access both halves of the bag when packing or unpacking it. If the zippered covers hung over the outer edges of the bag, as they do in some other bags, it would be easy to pack things in both halves of the luggage at the same time. 2. There is no way to easily have access to any small items that you might use while traveling, like gloves or keys or a passport. Getting access to *anything* in the bag requires you to find a large horizontal space where you can open out both halves of the luggage and completely and unzip the compartment giving access to what you want to pack or unpack. If you're doing this in an airport the only place is probably the ground, which is awkward. 3. There is no side handle - only a single fixed handle on top. It is offset from the centerline, so when the bag is lifted by the handle it is lopsided and does not hang vertically for carrying, making it awkward to handle, for example, when lifting it to put it in an overhead bin. This problem is even worse when the luggage is expanded, which moves the handle even farther from the centerline, making it even more lopsided and more awkward to handle. 4. But for me the main and most-serious problem with this bag, and the one that makes it completely unusable for me, is the shape of the telescoping handle grip. The shape of the grip is curved so that when it's not extended it matches the curve of the bag. While this is stylish, it creates an asymmetric handle with a tilted-oval cross section. This is comfortable to grip but only when you position the bag next to you with the handle on the far side from your body. When you're rolling the bag, this position requires you to reach across the bag to control it with the handle. Nobody rolls a bag that way. You position the bag with the handle close to your body with the bag to the outside. Unfortunately, in this position, the grip doesn't fit your hand well at all. When you hold it tightly it digs into your palm and across the last joints of your fingers. I've asked people with hands both larger and smaller than mine and they all find it uncomfortable. This problem isn't apparent rolling the empty bag along a smooth surface when you first receive it, which you can do with a light grip. But when you load it and start to use it for travel it becomes uncomfortable. And in situations where you have to put extra torque on on the handle to control the bag - like when it's heavily loaded and/or fully expanded and/or rolling on carpet or rough pavement - gripping the handle tightly to control the bag becomes an ordeal. I used this bag as carry-on luggage on eight airplane segments, three train segments, two bus segments and a ferry segment and innumerable city streets, and I could hardly wait to get home and take advantage of the 100-day return option. And that brings me to the worst problem of all ... 5. The 100-day return policy. July says, "If you decide that this is not the product for you, send it back to us within 100 days of placing your order and we’ll reimburse you to the original payment method, as long as the product(s) meet the conditions set out in our return policy." Unless you click through to see the conditions you might think that you could return the bag if you're dissatisfied with its performance. But no. The return policy says that the bag has to be unused and in its original condition and with all its original packaging, including any dust bags. So if you actually *use* the bag during the 100 days and find it unsatisfactory it's already non-returnable. But if you can't use the bag in actual travel - or somehow simulate all the various conditions of actual travel without making the bag appear "used" - how can you determine whether this bag, or any July luggage, "is not for you"? Apparently July's policy only covers what can happen to the bag if it sits on a shelf for 100 days. Maybe it develops a smell you don't like? If anything shows up while you're actually putting it to the use it's intended for you're just out of luck. I appealed to July customer service and was told the same thing; they won't accept used bags for return. So I have an expensive bag that I'll never use again but I'm just out of luck. If I had clicked through to see how worthless the July return policy is I wouldn't have bought the bag. But I didn't click through so I don't have grounds for a complaint. What I can do though is warn others about the shortcomings of this particular bag and alert them to the fact that the 100-day return policy won't help them if they find any piece of July luggage to be unsatisfactory in actual use.
Thank you for taking the time to write that! I hate these reviews when people have not actually used the bags with full loads on a trip. I appreciate you.
Thanks for your in-depth comments - I just bought one of these bags myself for a similar trip to yours. Given your comments about your experience with it I'm now rethinking the suitability of this bag for this type of travel. A real shame as the ultra low weight of this bag was what was really attractive to me - I'd gain essentially a kilo of packing weight.
Travel pro Maxlite rules! I’ve had it for a few years and looks brand new. Super light and great capacity!! Thank you, Nik, for your amazing research in this overlooked luggage category!!
Since 2018, I've been using a Samsonite Cosmolite (used to be called Black Label, and it's made in Europe, but sold in the US, too). It weighs 3.7 lbs. It was the only lightweight spinner I could find at the time and it's been my only carry-on roller since then, traveling multiple times per year to Europe (except 2020-21 due to pandemic). In the last year, it's been on four international trips -- France, Italy, France, France! BUT -- I CHECKED it on every return to the US and it still looks brand new, like the day I bought it! The apartment I rent in Paris has 64 steps, old, wooden, spiral and I need to carry that bag up by myself (I'm now 70 years old) and I prefer to not need assistance lifting my bag into the overhead. I don't check another bag and my under seat bag is what varies. On my most recent trip of 3.5 weeks/3 locations in France, I packed two pairs of jeans, silk pants, silk blazer, a skirt, cardigan, four tees, 2 short-sleeve blouses, two long-sleeve; PJs, lingerie, a pair of sneakers, a pair of loafers; three leather belts; three square scarves; one Wallaroo hat; five pairs of socks; a pack towel; a rain jacket, umbrella, non-liquid toiletries; laundry items like collapsible hangers, mesh bag, laundry sheets, hanging clothes pegs; a travel mirror; an Anker Nano power strip, European adapter. (I wore another cardigan, tee, heaviest pants and shoes, trench coat, on the plane.) My total bag weight for personal item and my Samsonite was 25 lbs, with 22 being the roller packed. That's as heavy as I can manage. I continuously look at carry-ons and I'm yet to break away from my Samsonite. It has a great side handle for carrying. It rolls great. The single handle isn't as much of an issue as I thought, so it hasn't frustrated me into changing luggage. Now -- I'm looking for the best under seat personal item sized bag that has a clamshell opening instead of a black hole! LOL I can find only backpacks, which isn't a style I like (and I've tried several).
for underseat bag, try a nomad bento bag - small enough to fit under the seat of a stingy United Airlines 17x10x9 requirement. it has a clamshell opening. amazon has it for much less than nomad itself
@@lpsrq2 I've got a 34L Pacsafe backpack coming to see if it works. While a backpack, it's clamshell and weighs less than the Bento. Thanks for the idea...if the PacSafe doesn't look like it suits me, I'll order a Bento
This was very helpful. What my research has shown is that our trip is retiring a 19" size carryon, with a weight of no more than 17 lbs. I'm finding that difficult to find & pack for
My biggest issue with roller bags is the wheels. I travel in Europe pretty regularly and find the cobblestone streets and sidewalks are really hard on the wheels. I would love to see a review that included the durability of the wheels for both carry-on bags and checked bags.
I’m stunned by the fact that so many don’t have side handles. A side handle is a must for me especially in this category because they need to be lifted into overhead bins.
@@awaytogether It is one of those items one cannot be without once one get used to it. I am a little bit surprised that what Nik says in his his "10 Dumb Luggage Features That Drive Travelers CRAZY" is missing. ruclips.net/video/eTkqzFQfNO4/видео.html Handles ought to be main criteria for luggage, definitely so for the larger check-In. Weight is relative to how well one can hold something, luggage no exception.
Watching this months later but from a flight attendant, Travelpro is what I use for personal. Our work bags are from them for FAs, mechanics and pilots. Warranty is great and easy enough for me to use as a woman taller than 6 feet. Softside is preferred, I’ve noticed.
We use TravelPro Crew 5 bags, very bulletproof, 2 wheels that are covered enough that they won’t be sheared off like a spinner wheel might. We have been using them for years with great success
I just returned from 6 weeks in Europe. They only allow 10 kg (22 lb)total for carryon which is much smaller than the US so I had to check my carry on which they lost in Portugal hours before I boarded the Queen Mary cruise. I bought IT carryon in South Hampton Primark store at West Quay mall for 40£ - about $50 usd. IT did the trick on the 1 week cruise and flew well to my home in the US.😊
Hi, Nik! I recently purchased the TravelPro Maxlite 5 softside expandable carry on 19" suitcase and LOVE it! Just the right size for me, rolls well, handle is great. I also purchased the Lightweight Underseat carry-On Travel Tote. It is lightweight at 1.6 lb and has a large capacity of 26 L or 0.9 cu'. But the tote is more rigid than I would have liked. It does not squish under the airplane seat very easily. I may have to replace it for something more pliable. I have been researching the best, lightest soft side luggage to replace our old suitcases and came across your video. Thank you SO much for your time and expense in creating and sharing this video! I am definitely going to buy the 21" for my husband and will probably purchase more in the checked sizes for our up-coming trips! Thanks again!
After tons of research, I picked up the Travelpro hard-shell, mostly due to the mesh curtain on both sides. That’s a critical feature, IMO. Years later, I still love the bag.
Nice review! Our family loves the IT Luggage. Since my family packs a lot, we needed lightweight suitcases. In 2016, TJmaxx had the soft case IT luggage’s and they were patterned . We bought our first two sets of 3. They are still going strong and have traveled everywhere. My parents and siblings also pack a lot, and they also bought them. So, we all highly recommend the IT Luggage. Just bought the one you showed in the video too. TravelPro is another one we like as well. You won’t go wrong with either one.
I purchased my first Samantha Brown bag a long time ago and fell in love with the small foot print it had when we put them on a bed. Four of us just arrived in London and we put our 2 bags on the bed. When I looked over at my friends bed their 2 bags took up the entire bed because they were clamshell style. Ours unzipped on the top edge and we used packing cubes, love, love, love. No unzipping a clamshell and flipping that heavy side open. Plus with packing cubes there are lots of places to put additional stuff like umbrella, shoes, food, souvenirs. I had to buy an extra bag in Orlando once and bought one in TJ Maxx same style and extremely light, also good.
This is the first video of yours I’ve watched, and I’m impressed enough to subscribe immediately! I have 2 issues with most carry on recommendations, and they are peculiar to me, I guess. 1) I travel every year to the Isle of Man for the motorcycle races in June, It’s a mountainous island, and requires a couple of connections. Oddly enough, some of the airports are somewhat “mountainous”, too, with steep ramps between gates and concourses. So I prefer a bag that will stay where I put it as I’m rearranging attire after Security or adjusting my shoulder bag after getting off a shuttle or bus. Spinner bags tend to head downhill on their own, and I’m too old to chase them effectively. 2) Owing to the runway restrictions at Ronaldsway airport on IOM, smaller aircraft are necessary for the last leg of the trip, and gate checks of bags are frequent. Owing to the lax morality of the luggage handlers at some of those connections (cough Newark cough Reagan cough Dublin cough), I prefer hard bags without zippers, as everybody knows that zippered bags can be opened with a Bic pen. The TSA locks only prevent them from being securely closed again after being rifled. First-world problems, I’m sure. Regardless of my problems, I find your content well presented and very clear. I also appreciate that you mention near-misses and why in your choices. Keep up the good work!
I just returned from 30 days of travel throughout Spain and Portugal. I used the TravelPro Maxlite 5 Slim Carry-On Expandable Softside Spinner, which is almost identical to the compact, but slightly larger. I also had an Osprey Daylite Expandable 26+ that I passthrough the TravelPro handle. I can highly recommend the TravelPro and Osprey. Both for their quality and that combination. They served me well. I only had a couple of minor difficulties. One was slipping the Osprey pack through the TravelPro handle. It wasn't all that easy and if I put my MacBook Air and iPad Pro in the front zipped area of the TravelPro, the bag became a little tippy. I was overpacked for sure, but the combination was easily able to manoeuvre around planes, trains, automobiles, cobblestones, etc.
I have been a big Travelpro fan for years and have both soft and hard cases, but Icelandair international baggage size for carry-on is shockingly small, specifically it can’t be wider than 7.78 inches. A huge thank you to you for introducing me to the July carry-on light, which meets the dimensions for Icelandair. I realize the colors are very limited right now, but for a two week carry-on only trip to France, It will do just fine. Together with my Sherpani travel backpack from REI, I should have all I need. Thanks!
This is a great video however I think 1 fantastic option has been missed. Living in Australia we are limited to a 7kg (15.4 lb approx.) total carryon weight. I found that the American Tourister Applite 4 50cm, 2 wheel case at only 1.9kg (4.18lbs) was perfect for domestic travel within Australia. It also comes in a 55cm option with spinner wheels & weighing 2.1kg (4.6lb). At the moment they are on sale here for AUD $156 (from $260) & $168 (from $280) respectively. They are well made, have a strong telescoping handle together with strong, easy grab handles on both the top & side.
I personally not a fans of hardshell-like luggage… So, I bought mine (Rockland Fashion Softside Upright Luggage Set, Expandable, Black, 2-Piece (14/19) for less than $45 w/ tax!) last year from Amazon for my 2 wks trip to Portugal & Spain & I love it! I also took it with me & spent 5 days in TX! The size is perfect for the airline requirement in Europe & I had no issue of zipper or falling aside. It’s pretty sturdy & will take it w/ me again for my another trip to Switzerland & France next wk! 😆✌️
I just bought the July carry on lite and checked lite. Customer service was great! They had a 15% off sale, so I took the plunge. Next year I’ll be traveling to New Zealand and Australia and carryon bags are limited to 15 pounds. I purposely chose non expanding so I wouldn’t be tempted to overpack and then have to pay extra fees. I’ll be wearing a ScottE vest on the plane as well. I often travel solo and it will be great to have two bags that are not heavy.
Delsey Clavel Carry on is lightweight (5.2pounds), great telescopic handle, smooth wheels & stunning colours. Also expands to 42L. Near indestructable!
Glad to know I made the right choice! love my Travelpro so much I bought one for my daughter too. My only tiny beef is the telescoping handle - I wish it had a third setting.
I needed this video! Every carryon luggage on Amazon has too many 1-star reviews for my liking, even reputable brands. As someone who doesn't travel much & is also clumsy, I don't need a suitcase with bad zippers/ wheels.
I bought the basic IT Luggage Carry-on and I really Like It! Very Light weight and deceptively Roomier inside. Also Expandable. I thought it might be a little too Tall as carryon for European and Asian carriers but I checked with the several airline check-in agents at Tokyo-Haneda Airport when I was there a month ago and they said the size is Good as carryon. Even British Airways said it was OK, lol.
Ironically, as soon as I watch this video, I went and looked at my luggage and a leg/wheel was broken. I have a trip coming up soon and since I don’t have much time to think, I bought the IT piece and a 25 inch. So far so good! It is so light and I love the wheels a lot. I got everything in there and still have some extra weight left. I’m taking it on a one month cruise. I think it will do the job!
I got the Travelpro Maxlite 5 two wheel softside for my trip to Singapore last spring as it fits 45L. I really like it. Not a spinner, but it did well.
This was very informative, thank you! I'm an American living in Ireland and I'm trying to select a new carry on, to transition to more European travel without a checked bag. You've reviewed the lightest bags here, but I would really like to know....what's the biggest? The carryon on the delivers the most packing area, but still acceptable on EU flights. Would you have any thoughts or recommendations?
Hi Nick! I bought the SAMSONITE Freeform 21-inch carry-on spinner, which I loved for its being lightweight and its polished (albeit very basic) appearance. It weighs 6.5lbs, but the overall dimensions are 23 x 15 x 10 inches - far too large for standard international airline carry-on requirements. I sadly have to return it - it’s boxed up right now awaiting dispatch. If only they had a version of this with the correct carry-on size, I would say it would be the best lightweight hard shell carry-on!
To July, add a side handle to your "light" luggage. Side handles are important for more things than lifting into an overhead. I would be all in on these bags, but ne side handle is a "No-Go" for me.
6:06 just an observation, that handle is to be used together with the top handle. Your right arm on top handle and your left arm on the side handle to lift and put that bag on top of your seat. If you are left handed better to get another bag. That side handle is not meant to be used to grab your carry-on as a briefcase.
The reality is: if you're rich and famous, your *hotdups* bags are seen as a sign of success. If you are just an ordinary worker working a 9-to-5 job, your real bag is likely to be considered the fruit of your efforts.
I don’t know what I think. Weight is important but I MUST have a side handle. I am very short and it is necessary to carry the bag up or down stairs I have to turn it on its side to clear the steps. The July looks great but doesn’t appear to have a side handle. Currently I have a roam. Thanks for the comparisons.
Pamela, I'm with you! The criteria for this video was spinner luggage under 6lbs. I bought the lightest and realized one of the first ways to cut weight is apparently getting rid of the side handle! :(
@@awaytogether I honestly wonder how much addl weight would a side handle be? I think July would still be the lightest even if a side handle would add a pound to the weight.
@@cs-yq5ed my husband ordered his roam bag first. It did not have a side handle. I called them and they put one on for me when I ordered my bag. Now it looks as if all their carry on bags have a side handle 😊
I LOVE my Travelpro MaxLite 5. I do not have the spinner wheels and it gives me a fraction more room. ( better for cobblestones) Fits great on carryon international flights. Taking it to Europe, again, for a cruise.
I have the Maxlite 5 with 4 rolling wheels which is great. I prefer 4 wheels as I balance my underseat handbag on the top so that I can carry my walking stick in my other hand.
I have the Samsonite Lite-Shock at only 3.7lb. I think I got it for like $300, which is A LOT, but it's handled all the abuse I throw at it with ease. It's sturdy and sleek. My only complaint is the telescope handle is a single T rod instead of the usual rectangular frame, so if the suitcase is too heavy, it can feel a bit harder to push around. But if it's packed normally then it's no problem at all.
Me remembering nearly all the bags from the jag collection in *hotdups* other apartment on the dimond tray.. I think i watched that video like 40 times. Purse collection goals
Great review Nik!! On the verge of needing a new small light weight bag, so your timing couldn't have been better!! Thanks for all your time and effort to review all of these and give us your take on what's out there! Looks like the TravelPro Maxlite 5 is it for us!
My Brics bag broke on the wheel after 2 uses purchased from Nordstrom Rack. Tried to call the warranty on the label and they either didn't answer or it's not economical to send back and fix so it went in the trash. Glad you didn't waste time on Brics. My eagle creek bag got trashed by American airlines. I still have to find out about no matter what warranty. So I appreciate the review and comments!
I got the July carton light expandable! I really like it - so lightweight and easy to maneuver. Plus I got it in a moss green that makes it stand out from all the black bags. I really like that it doesn’t take up too much of my 8kg allowance.
The July carry-on light has been on my list for the last two months, but the color I want has been out of stock so I haven’t made the purchase yet. It’s so nice to see a comparative review featuring it. I haven’t considered the expandable version until now… Thank you for another amazing luggage review and comparison video.
Same here. I wanted chocolate brown and at the time they took the feature to customize your initials off the website. By the time they brought the feature back, the color was sold out
I loved IT luggage been used for years. I travel internationally usually and pack a lot when I am visiting my family. They are really cheap if you buy them TJ Maxx, marshals or Ross
I’d love a review of the smallest and lightest carryon bags. Expandable and non expandable. I think most people agree that a side handle is necessary, nice wheels, good organization, non wobbly handle, decent price. lol. Does such a bag exist?
I still have my roller carry-on but recently bought a small backpack with luggage handles and disappearing straps. It's lighter with more capacity and more useful for adventure travel. I will be using this going forward. Wheels and a telescoping handle take up lots of space.
If going carry-on only, which I always try to do, I'd never use a spinner as it loses so much volume compared to recessed double wheels. Weight counts but so does packing space.
I love my carry on - Samsonite Airea. Much lighter than all the rest - only 1.8 KG. It has a few versions, mine is the strict one, there is an expandable version as well. it is the best for international travel, and somehow it's been overlooked in all the reviews I see online, and for no good reason. Used it for 2 years already, and I highly recommend it.
This is great, we've been trying to improve of packing / traveling game, and always seems we fall short, we often if not always bring back bottles of booze from our travels, could you review travel with wine suitcases please?
Fantastic video. Tried to buy the IT with the link but it said not available when I tried to order. So I got it elsewhere. Great video. Real comparisons and true measurements. I'm so tired to seeing suitcases labelled one way but when measured are totally different.
4:47 for the Travelpro Maxlite 5. A variant sometimes shows up on Amazon or TJMax or Marshall’s. I like it, except the lid expands beyond the wheels making it tippy if full. The laptop panel version adds 8 ounces. On my scale the regular mode is 5.5 lbs, ymmv (or your scale may vary).
Great video, Nik. Thanks for putting so much effort into this one. I was pleasantly surprised with the overall winner, as I bought a Travel Pro Max 5 last year. But I'm a little bit concerned that my bag is the 21" model, not the compact one. Do you think the 21" still complies as carry-on for international airlines?
I have a TravelPro Maxlite 3 - wish I could buy several more- large top that holds a suit and several shirts. I don't like spinners - makes you walk twice as wide - prefer the two wheels behind me. Great video - very helpful.
I was about ready to buy the Travel Pro he revomrnd sat the end. Then I read a review that says it tips over when packed and the top is narrow so the “cabin tote” won’t ride well on top. If I decide to give it a try I’d have to get it from Amazon because of ease in returning and it’d the same price $145. I really appreciate the work put in to make the video.
Just a heads up if you’re going to do international can you also put weight in kilos please. Most airlines here have a 7 kilo limit so bags under 1 kilo (under 2.2 lbs)
Thanks for the solid info. When I was researching this a while back and these were items I thought were important, concerned about or avoided: avoid wobbly handles Wheels should steer straight Avoid single wheels How far it will roll, should roll freely Avoid heavy bag, light is good Dont buy just because its attractive Must have space/expanse below top of bottom wheels, i.e. embedded wheels are better Poor quality zippers - should glide smooth Side handle needed, and on correct side for you Inside should have space all the way into corners
Great choices. I purchased the Monos, when you recommended it on one of your videos; and I love it. But all of these look like good choices, also. I would love to hear your thoughts on Medium and Large check in luggage. Thank you 😊
I have the TravelPro Maxlite Air. It is very lightweight. However, the wheels are not great on anything with texture. It's fine on slick floors. But carpet, sidewalks, cobblestones, etc - it was difficult to keep it straight and it slowed me down. I'm currently searching for a better option before our next trip.
Samsonite has plenty of ultra light models available in Europe. Ridiculously light ones. Samsonite Airea and Litebeam are 1.8 kg (just under 4 pounds) for the cabin model. Liteshock is even lighter with 100 grams less. And it luggage has a model that weights 1.56 kg (under 3.5 pounds).
Great video. I am replacing my spinner that has sadly flown its last but I am now looking at 2 wheel bags and after this video the Travel pro Maxlight 5 international rollaboard carry on and the travel pro maxlight 5 rollaboard carry on are now at the number 1 spot. Thank you!
Great video! In your opinion is the TP Maxlite 5 Compact preferred over the International one? What about with traveling to Europe? Using Ryan Air for example? Thank you! 😊
The July light expandable looks like a great bag. However, I recently came across a new brand I hadn’t heard of…Duravo. They make a 5.6 lb expandable international carry-on with a side handle. It would be cool to see you put that up against the July.
I too have been trying out different carry on luggage for an upcoming European trip and have found the it Luggage World’s Lightest New York Softside 8 Wheel Spinner, handle is wide so runs down the sides on case instead of down the middle. Loads of room and I’m not concerned about the handle as I’ll have a backpack! Reasonable price as well!
Would love to see a review for American Tourister Curio book opening 20in model. I'm considering this since it's 6 lbs but with hardcase, expandable, double wheel, and a nice top lid opening.
It would have been helpful if you had stated what the interior capacity was for all of the bags, before and after expansion, but I only heard you include that info for a couple of them.
You should try the Cabin Max Velocity for $140. Unfortunately in the US you can’t get it with the locks. You have to buy those separately. It’s 16x8x22” and weighs 5.3 pounds.
Hello. Thank you for the video. I kind of like the second luggage you mentionned, the one with 2 zippers. I am always affraid of the zipper to brake, or someone use a pen to open the zipper so I use a lugguage cover to protect my luggage. I like really simple lugguages with no additionel really useful features that just add weight when you are only allowed for 8kg of lugguage in a carry on. Really liked you video thank you. Grazie!
You missed one of the lightest bags-Lipault. They are owned by Samsonite. It come in 2 and 4 wheel designs and weighs 4.8lbs. The website often runs sales. The large bags are also light-under 7lbs.
Super great comparison video! I appreciate your time and investment! I do have one question. Would you agree that the larger sizes of these brands are just as good as the carry ons you reviewed? Thank you so much!
Thank you Nik. I have been researching for months, soft trying luggage in the stores. The side handle is an important feature for a petit size woman like me. In many occasions I had to lift the bag and move faster to catch a train in Europe. The position of the handle is another important thing to notice. If the side handle is not lengthwise, the arm gets twisted and is uncomfortable. What are your experience on the Samsonite Uplift Spinner?
I was interested in the one where you said the side handle was perpendicular. Maybe it's to make it easier to put up into the overhead bin, so right-handers don't stress their right shoulder too much?
I would suggest to anyone with a bag that they no longer have use for, they might consider donating to a charity that helps homeless children or children in foster care. When these poor kiddos are moved from place to place, they put their personal belongings in a plastic garbage bag. Personally, I find that really pathetic. It sends the message that they’re not worry of anything nice.
great idea, thanks so much for sharing!💚
I bought the July Carry-on Light Expandable in March but in multiple weeks of constant use in Europe I discovered its serious shortcomings and the near-uselessness of July's 100-day return option. Perhaps this mini-review-within-a-comment will be helpful to others considering this bag. Let me start with the least-important drawbacks:
July says, "If you decide that this is not the product for you, send it back to us within 100 days of placing your order and we’ll reimburse you to the original payment method, as long as the product(s) meet the conditions set out in our return policy."
Unless you click through to see the conditions you might think that you could return the bag if you're dissatisfied with its performance.
Thanks for your detailed comment/review! Really good to know.
So you don't recommend this bag? 🤔
@@DUNGSTA I'm glad you picked up my subtle message!😉
Mine broke first time out. On smooth airport and hotel lobby floors. Wheels making noise and handle pulling away from the bag.
for underseat bag, try a nomad bento bag - small enough to fit under the seat of a stingy United Airlines 17x10x9 requirement. it has a clamshell opening. amazon has it for much less than nomad itself

This was a bummer for me as well. Criteria was lightest spinner luggage (6lbs or less)
You can hold the bag on the bottom when lifting
@@DUNGSTAsounds like an ergonomic nightmare. And I see it when ppl are trying to lift their heavy luggage overhead. Shame on these companies.

It is one of those items one cannot be without once one get used to it. I am a little bit surprised that what Nik says in his his "10 Dumb Luggage Features That Drive Travelers CRAZY" is missing.
ruclips.net/video/eTkqzFQfNO4/видео.html
Handles ought to be main criteria for luggage, definitely so for the larger check-In. Weight is relative to how well one can hold something, luggage no exception.
Not have side or top handles on my suitcase is a deal breaker for me. It may not be for other people but for me it is.
Watching this months later but from a flight attendant, Travelpro is what I use for personal. Our work bags are from them for FAs, mechanics and pilots. Warranty is great and easy enough for me to use as a woman taller than 6 feet. Softside is preferred, I’ve noticed.
I've owned two IT luggage suitcases and they have done so well for me. No frills, but really great quality for the price!
IT did the trick on the 1 week cruise and flew well to my home in the US.😊
The IT luggage-soft sided that I got from primark was ruined (handle broke) from being checked in from Spain to the US, wasted £30
7 kilos in Australia!!!
They has terrible customer service for repairs.
What are the spinner wheels like?
@@ThatBranB small but wide apart; they work well on most surfaces beside thick carpet and cobblestone
I love my TravelPro Maxlite! I have both the 19" and 21" with no complaints at all! Thank you for this review.
Did you live in hostels or hotels? Curious as I’m confused that if I get a carry on I can’t fit them in the hostel lockers?
@@zaidyahya6305 No, I was mostly in small hotel rooms. On a few occasions the friends I was traveling with shared a larger AirBnb.
apparently the slim is only available in europe.
Thanks!
I bought the Delsey Dauphine softside in 2006, still using it. From India to USA to EU. Less than 4lbs. No sweat for international budget airlines.
This is a great video however I think 1 fantastic option has been missed. Living in Australia we are limited to a 7kg (15.4 lb approx.) total carryon weight. I found that the American Tourister
Applite 4 50cm, 2 wheel case at only 1.9kg (4.18lbs) was perfect for domestic travel within Australia.
I have a checked large "It" featherweight and absolutley love it. It's made many trips with no damage.
We have two of the Maxlite 5 two wheel version which has more capacity and we love them.
I wish I would have watched before buying my solgaard luggage. The carry on closet is super heavy if I ever have to weigh…thanks for the video!
I got the Travelpro Maxlite 5 two wheel softside for my trip to Singapore last spring as it fits 45L. I really like it. Not a spinner, but it did well.
Two wheels work great on cobblestone!
Samsonite also have the 73H SPINNER 55 CM which is 1.9kg (4.2lbs) or the LITE-SHOCK SPORT SPINNER 55 CM which is 1.7kg (3.75lbs)
Finally, a useful comparison of lightweight cabin bags and reasonably priced too.
I too am short and not having a side handle is a deal-breaker for me.
Now it looks as if all their carry on bags have a side handle 😊
great vid! Samsonite does have a few suitcases below 4 pounds (3.7 / 1.7kg is their lightest proper suitcase I think), at least in Belgium😄
I LOVE my Travelpro MaxLite 5. I do not have the spinner wheels and it gives me a fraction more room. ( better for cobblestones) Fits great on carryon international flights. Taking it to Europe, again, for a cruise.
This is my new favorite carry-on, too! (I also prefer the 2-wheel version.)
I have the Maxlite 5 with 4 rolling wheels which is great. I prefer 4 wheels as I balance my underseat handbag on the top so that I can carry my walking stick in my other hand.
The variety of textures in the kislux pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
Sorry you had that experience!
Great content! Extremely informative and practical, not to mention hilarious! Thanks for a very helpful, no-fluff video!
So which are you getting? 🤔
PS Have used Aerolite 2-wheel and the Brics 2-wheel extensively and they have lasted for years.
I would love your review of Biaggi luggage, both the soft version and the new runway hard-sided bag. Merci !
Thank you so much. I’m planning on a euro trip and this video was incredibly helpful 😊
Great video! It would be great for you to list the liter capacity of each bag. That's helpful for comparison sake.
This is great, we've been trying to improve of packing / traveling game, and always seems we fall short, we often if not always bring back bottles of booze from our travels, could you review travel with wine suitcases please?
I love my Briggs & Riley (U-122CSXP-7) expandable spinner, thank you
Fantastic video.
I recently bought a Heys Hatch (3.1 lbs) and front laptop pocket & front loader as well. Costco Canada
When I was researching this a while back and these were items I thought were important, concerned about or avoided:
avoid wobbly handles
Wheels should steer straight
Avoid single wheels
How far it will roll, should roll freely
Avoid heavy bag, light is good
Dont buy just because its attractive
Must have space/expanse below top of bottom wheels, i.e. embedded wheels are better
Poor quality zippers - should glide smooth
Side handle needed, and on correct side for you
Inside should have space all the way into corners
Just ordered the Maxlite5 from your link. Great review of the bags
Thank you so much!!
Keep in mind that Ryan Air depth is the narrowest at 20cm! Most of these bags other than July are deeper than that!
Awesome video with such helpful considerations. Would you consider a review on the Underseat Pro bag and other underseat options? ✅👏🏻
Underseat video is on the list!!!!
Great choices. I purchased the Monos, when you recommended it on one of your videos; and I love it. But all of these look like good choices, also. I would love to hear your thoughts on Medium and Large check in luggage. Thank you 😊
I was almost getting either the travelpro lite or lykke IT luggage, but I've read in many reviews that they tend to tip over!
My mom bought one uzbagx and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
do you have a video comparing under seat bags with rollers?
Samsonite has plenty of ultra light models available in Europe. Ridiculously light ones. Samsonite Airea and Litebeam are 1.8 kg (just under 4 pounds) for the cabin model. Liteshock is even lighter with 100 grams less. And it luggage has a model that weights 1.56 kg (under 3.5 pounds).
You mentioned available in Europe. These are not available for purchases in the USA?
Great video. I am replacing my spinner that has sadly flown its last but I am now looking at 2 wheel bags and after this video the Travel pro Maxlight 5 international rollaboard carry on and the travel pro maxlight 5 rollaboard carry on are now at the number 1 spot. Thank you!
Get a Crew 5, it’s a much better quality TravelPro bag
Great video! In your opinion is the TP Maxlite 5 Compact preferred over the International one? What about with traveling to Europe? Using Ryan Air for example? Thank you! 😊
Is travel pro approved for international and all the American 🇺🇸 Airlines? Southwest etc
Have you ever reviewed Heys luggage? I have a brilliant yellow set which works very well, is reasonably priced and works like a charm!
Thank you thank you for all the work and resources you put into this video 💗
Every bag should have litre capacity, how much can you fit in the bag! Size really matters
I have been very pleased with the Delsey Paris Helium Aero carry on. Less than $120 on Amazon depending on your color choice.
Samsonite has the Upscape wich has 39L capacity at just 5.1 lbs
American Tourister has the DashPop, which has 41L capacity at just 5.5 lbs
COPYMAXY I love you so much and watching your videos makes my day brighter
Grazie!
Thank you ! Super video!
We enjoy all of your honest comments!
Great review. I think I’ll try the July bag.
You missed one of the lightest bags-Lipault. They are owned by Samsonite. It come in 2 and 4 wheel designs and weighs 4.8lbs. The website often runs sales. The large bags are also light-under 7lbs.
Excellent review process.
Hi, do the heights include the wheels? Great video!
Yes
Don’t know where you bought the Lykke by IT, but I can’t find it anywhere even close to the price you show.
I've been flying with a soft spinner from Lipault for ten years. Its 4.8 pounds!! Maybe for another video?
