      I have an L2350 old school Kubota that has no front end loader. My wife bought me a $75 used scoop for the 3 point and between it and a box blade I built a beautiful pond that due to terrain is 17 ft at the dam and then about 6 foot all of the rest. Took me about 3 yrs of vacays, days off and most evenings, but I enjoyed the challenge. We love the pond and have almost no money invested.

    Nice work taking advantage now to get the settlement out. I hope you get the water leakage figured out, that would be a beautiful asset to the property, let alone the wildlife it would attract.

      Baby steps, right? We still have to apply Damit to 1/2 the pond....so much to do, so little time.

    Nice source of dirt. Making the best of the situation. Hopefully now the clouds open up and fill that pond back up with water!

      We've already used some dirt in an upcoming concrete project video. And yes, need some rain to fill it so we can finish treating the bottom so it can fill up like yours!

    You need to control the erosion on the upper banks. If you can’t get a healthy stand of grass growing quickly, get some tree guys to dump several truckloads of woodchips. Apply them very thick. As they begin to break down, you can seed into the compost they form.

    What is the deepest you'd feel comfortable digging with that tractor given your experience?

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  Год назад +1

      I think it's more about the traction (not getting stuck) and the slope of the bank than the depth.

    Till bentonite or a good fat clay into it now that it’s low and compact it. I’d recommend granular Benseal. 2 or 3% Portland cement in the mix will help with erosion. Just my 2 cents. Im a Geotechinal driller not a pond guy. We helped our city hall with a leaking pond like that and it worked too good. 10 years later they had to fill the pond because the geese where creating to many traffic problems 😂.

    Seems like pulling a boxblade up a hill would be a good way to roll a tractor over on a guy. Also I'd git rid of those drop pins and put some snap ring pins on your loader. The pond looks great.

      We square up when going up and down slopes. It feels very stable. Cross slope is a different story!

    Your gonna need to drill a secondary well so you can keep it full all year around. look into RPS Solar well pump turn key systems. Hope it gets better!

      We've got 2 wells now so we have options. We're not done sealing the pond so we're hopeful that will help. here's last year's sealing video: ruclips.net/video/NEwSTg1aOWc/видео.html

    Why aren't you using the teeth with the box blade? Curious.

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  9 месяцев назад

      You only need the scarifiers running deep in the front if you are trying to break up some hard soil or gravel. If you can fill your box with dirt without them, I keep them up. Once you loosen soil with them, you can't pack it to prevent erosion on this pond bank....the rear blade carves off the top layer and leaves everything below it unchanged. That was my theory, at least!

    I can't tell you if it will work you have to do some research and see if you want to try this.
    I know some of the old timers here say that using hogs in some of the wet weather scypress ponds in the area.
    The hogs using the pond packs the bottom to where it will hold water. Or doing that to the small springs will close them up.
    Just what I been told .
