I don't know if you guys saw the entire interview but it was very interesting and you could tell that Conan and Tavis have that mutual respect for each other. It was very interesting to me to see how Conan was intrigued by Tavis' story about Prince and Michael Jackson. This really was a great interview and I wish it was longer than it was.
I think Conan is obsessed with Prince. I think he's one of his biggest fans. I think he may have wanted Prince on his show but never could make it happen. So now he just lives vicariously through those have met him, etc. I don't know for sure, Im just guessing.
Also Conan was extremely fascinated by Chris Tucker's Prince and Michael Jackson stories as well. You should RUclips Chris Tucker on Conan. It was hilarious. Lol

Conan's like "I think I met him....once" there is no recovering from that statement. You either don't remember if you ever met Prince, or you don't remember that you got to meet Prince more than once.
Based on the story he tells, it seems like he's sure of the fact that he met him. I think he was just trying to recall how many times.
If you're famous you can meet a lot of people. You can't remember everyone.

Prince was a great musician. He will always be loved and missed. I still can't believe that he's gone. It's like one year he's here singing and another year,he's gone. Life is so unfair. I mean,I get it that we all have to die,but Prince died too soon. He was only 57 years old. He was a vegan. He didn't believe in eating junk food,doing drugs,drinking alcohol,and etc. He was a good looking man too! I have a crush on Tavis Smiley. I know all about him and his personal life. It took me nearly a year to watch my first show of Tavis...it was during a commercial break like they did everyday while I was watching Rap City that Tavis would say what the topic would be for that night which was "The use of the N word".... So I started watching him since that episode.....and I was fortunate to watch that interview he did with Prince... I believe it was 99 or 00
This must've been before Tavis got in trouble.
How pathetic these people are who claim to know anything about Prince. Prince only invited certain people into his world. Not everyone was invited. And if you disrespected him, that was the end of your relationship with him. But this I do believe, Tavis Smiley did have friendship with Prince for many years.

The rapper Foxy Brown told a similar story about Michael Jackson. She said that when he called her, she hung up on him, because she didn’t really think it was him. She thought it was a prank caller.

Prince made it a habit to lie to the public and media but his friends knew the real him. Prince obviously told Tavis the truth considering the fact they were personal friends for 20 years. Their interviews were really great and informative. Prince made it seem as if he was poor growing up but his best friend Andre Cymone said that he moved into Prince neighborhood and that the neighborhood was upper middle class, and Cymone family was from the hood. But Prince told Tavis Smiley that as a kid he had elipsey , but his parents did the best they could with the little they had.Also, Prince said he was teased at school, but Jimmy Jam said that he was popular because he was in a band and on the basketball team. And Prince image was that of "universally" acceptable but a black woman that interviewed him in the 90s said that she was surprised that he was "black blackety". These examples have nothing to do with the "drums" statement, but just to point out that Prince public image was a complete lie, and only his real friends knew the real him. His personal friends such as Van Jones said that if a person mentioned being Prince friend, that would be the end of their friendship.
What he told tavis, he told everyone else in public interviews so no he didn't lie to anyone. And who is black blackety? Is that his pet dog lol? Or is that like saying "ethnic"?
Those statement was written by the black female reporter that interviewed him, not my words.

I am Perfection Yeah but it's like, ok Tavis no one really understands why you're famous and yet you're claiming you "big leagued" Prince. It's like, why would he assume a random person knew his phone number, you know? And yet this may very well have happened.
Tavis used to be really big, talk show hosts are always really famous while they work and then fade away after they stop working.
jakob clark I'm a TV guy, I remember hearing about his show but never seeing it. Actually, I was introduced to him through comedians horrible imprecations of him.
