    Why do you mix vodka with the dust? Great video going to recreate tomorrow (fingers crossed it goes well).

    • @Artisancakecompany
      @Artisancakecompany  8 лет назад +1

      +Louise Murphy If you just tried to brush on the dust it would get everywhere. The vodka makes it into a nice paint and then evaporates, leaving nothing but dust behind without the mess

    • @veronicaguitarte1319
      @veronicaguitarte1319 8 лет назад

      you have to use something with alcohol because it evaporates faster...it doesn't get the cake or whatever your painting too wet

    hmmm. I thought water would make it seize up?

    • @Artisancakecompany
      @Artisancakecompany  8 лет назад +1

      +thompson lorrie As you can see, it doesn't :) We are making ganache, not melted chocolate. Technically ALL ganache has water in it. That is what 99% of cream is

    • @21dancingcupcakeslife61
      @21dancingcupcakeslife61 8 лет назад +2

      water does make your chocolate seize up if it's not in the right amount and hot enough....and the "chocolate" used in the video is candy melts so...

    • @Artisancakecompany
      @Artisancakecompany  8 лет назад +4

      +21dancingcupcakesLIFE Not when you're making ganache. Which is what we're making. What do you think cream is made of? You can make ganache with water, milk, wine, anything. As long as the chocolate is melted and the liquids are warm.

    Is there any other alternatives to using alcohol with the gold dust?

    • @johncrj1
      @johncrj1 8 лет назад

      +Sweetwise I am not sure if there is. I'm not sure of the reason you wouldn't want to use it (too young, can't get it, or you do not drink) but she uses alcohol because it evaporates faster off of the cake.

    • @Artisancakecompany
      @Artisancakecompany  8 лет назад +1

      +Sweetwise lemon extract but it does not work as well

      +Bree D moslems dont drink alcohol~

    • @johncrj1
      @johncrj1 8 лет назад +1

      oh ok. If it is because of your religion I am not sure of any alternatives. If it just because of preference you can do as she said and use lemon extract. If I am not mistaken all, or most, extracts have alcohol in them. But, as she said it will not work as well as alcohol, as there are additional thing in extract other that just alcohol, this would make it evaporate slower... That is also something you may want to think about, the alcohol is going to evaporate off of the cake so you won't necessarily be drinking it. I bought airplane shots of vodka for a little over $1 to use just for things like this. Sorry this message was so long I was trying to give alternatives and some explanations.

    Isnt the gold luster non edible? How do u avoid eating it if this cake was cut? Lol

    • @BlakesCakesCLE
      @BlakesCakesCLE 8 лет назад

      Lena Ngo, Rolkem metallics contain real metals and are not considered edible in the US, as the FDA has not approved the use of real metals as additives to food.

    • @meganslater8074
      @meganslater8074 7 лет назад

      Luster dust is made for cake decorating so its edible :)

    • @Artisancakecompany
      @Artisancakecompany  7 лет назад +1

      The real answer is that the gold is non-toxic (like a crayon) and considered non-edible by the FDA because it has no nutritional value. It has no taste and no affect on the body (passes through). So if you ate it, it wouldn't hurt you (like if you ate a crayon).
