  • I have been using the roller coaster simulation software No Limits 2 (www.nolimitscoaster.de) to recreate lost coasters. This one is the Orient Express looping coaster that ran at Kansas City's Worlds of Fun from 1980 until 2003 when it was demolished.

RIP ORIENT EXPRESS. This was the best coaster ever. It will truly be missed but never forgotten.

I ran the Orient Express that first year in 1980. This is an awesome simulation but there are a few corrections needed. You entered from the opposite side of the house. There was a double piece of track before entering the house that could be moved to let trains go downstairs (to the right) in the lower part of the house for maintenance. Also, there was a "chicken" exit from the right side of the house, over the tunnel and out the left side. However, I was amazed at how the C brake (after the 2nd loop) sounded. It took me back because it's so accurate! Nobody died on the coaster. It had some rollbacks over the years and it did derail but nobody was killed. Also, during that first year, the back seat of one of the trains had a computer strapped in that measured the train's movement, etc. We were told it was due to a lawsuit but I don't know if that's true.

I rode this when I was 5 or 6 in 1981, in the front seat, with my best friend at the time Jason Swain. I was so little I almost slid out between the shoulder harness. I was holding on for dear life.

That slow gentle curve between the lift and the big drop always made me queasy and I never knew why. I think maybe my first ride was in the mid-80s and I'd never been that high and had no idea I had a fear of heights. I had ideas of maybe being a pilot so I think that maybe was part of it. Eventually I discovered that I'm pretty okay with "low heights" where I may not get hurt falling and "high heights" where I'll definitely die, lol. I think its mainly the possibility of being paralyzed or a vegetable I always feared. When I felt just sort of "wrong" on that damn curve I figured Id be really scared at the drop. That was nothing. I loved getting a LOT closer to the ground, lol. The rest of the ride was great. I think my first ride it was pretty new, the line wasn't bad and they were expecting weather so they'd scrubbed the ride once and go to the end of the line deal and were letting us stay in and go again. I

Pretty darn accurate. I worked at the park (Express and Rip Cord) in 2001. I got the full experience of cleaning trash out of the tunnel one day during down time (storm and power outage). Quite greasy and gross down there. The station house is, as last I knew, used as a haunted house. Last I was there, you walked into the attraction through the exit of the old tunnel and up some stairs. The open area in the station house where the track was is now covered.

I survived the derailment with my sister, in 1999. The ride was shut down and demolished before investigators (other than cedar fair appointed investigators) were able to inspect the ride. I was 11 years old and have suffered from injuries ever since. "Nobody died" but the ride was unsafe and they knew it.

No, it was taken down because it derailed and stranded my sister and I upside down for 2 and half hours with severe injuries. They demolished it so that there was less evidence in a lawsuit against cedar point, who owned the park.
