Many people are awesome musicians. But when you handle an instrument in a way it was never meant to be handled and you completely lift it to another level. Thats art!
Andreas Nilsson ????? What's he doing that's new or unmeant for? You must be new to the Violin scene because every technique and style he's used in this video is a regular form of playing the Violin.
He's actually playing a 7-string in this video. John Jordan just finished his new violin today, the first 7-string ever built with the StringAmp magnetic pickup system. Earl will be using it in the studio later this week.
@PaThKu This is late, but the bowing technique is called "spiccato" I believe. It involves bouncing the bow on the strings to create a different sounds.
@geoffcabforcutie In this video, he's doing it mainly with the Rocktron Silver Dragon distortion pedal. It's an awesome solid state/tube combo pedal that gives you the best of both worlds, when you have to rely on effects, rather than overdriving your amp. But if you need a crisper, "clean" distortion part of the time, you'll need to run a noise gate in your fx chain; the Dragon has a bit of internal noise that goes out to the amp, otherwise.
@MetalheadsRule96 It's a seven-string violin, so it keeps going down in fifths: from highest string to lowest, E, A, D, G, C, F, B-flat. If you wanted to go even *lower* Sensicore makes a violin-length E-flat, as well. String technology has come a long ways, so now violinists can legitimately get down into the cello and bass range!
@MetalheadsRule96 He's playing a 7-string electric violin. It keeps going down on fifths (from highest string to lowest) E-A-D-G-C-F-B-flat. If you *really* wanted to go even lower than that, Super-Sensitive *does* make a violin scale-length low E-flat string.
This is a custom-built violin by a single maker, 7 string. To my knowledge there were very few of these produced. We do have 7 string electric violins by Jordan and Wood here in the shop that do quite well with effects, as well as a 6 string Violectra.
I know that it's a "stick fiddle" type electric, we've seen some pictures but we've never had them here in the shop or been able to contact DAL which are the initials of the maker (I wish I could say more about the tone). We do have an interesting vintage Cigar Box electric violin in the shop at the moment :)
I can see it now.. Violin Hero. Haha, but in all seriousness though you KILLED it. Great playing and it would be really awesome for this kinda thing to catch on.
@BleedtheDrummer: DREW! how are you?! it's great to hear from you, i hope everything is going great with you and erase the enemy! we're kinda focusing on writing right now, but let's stay in touch, when we head out again i'd love to play some shows together!
The 6 or 7 string Jordan with Stringamp would be a custom build at $4790 with a solid opaque finish and black hardware; extra for fancy wood or gold hardware.
I shit you not, This guy taught me string ensemble today. A few weeks ago, he brought in his 7 string (e to b flat) electric violin. He is so nice and he is the only adult I know who also likes heavy metal aside from my old math teacher!

Too good to ignore. Liked subbed and added to favs. Drop by May 6th as we start to roll out the rebuilt old version of RUclips, sort of :) Minus a few cute pet videos etc. This time it is for performers. Cheers!
Thank you for reply.I'm quite familiar with your great website.I'm interested in some obscure vintage electric violins, like DAL Luthier Graphite violin.Any advice on that? Thanks.
@donmuang76 I'm good man! We actually lost our singer and bassist a couple months back. We got a bassist but still on the hunt for vocals. i'm digging the hell out of the Sufferers Rise video dude!! Sounds sic as shit!
If you could do the rock version of devil went down to georgia like the one on guitar hero 3, that would be so epic. I would be greatful if you did, theres nothing like it on youtube
you will need a distortion pedal.... boss metal zone 2 or uber metal pedal are the best...i use both... sounds like he is using a wah wah pedal as well....
If that was a sound of a "genuin" violin, the haters will be like "that's some amazing preformance", but with a little distortion they call it garbage! Grow up
not completly true since distortion affect dinamics, what sound good on disto don't nessesarly translate well on acoustic. (but i agree with the hater part :p)
Wehn you solo on that thing its sounds like he's doing harmonics, bending and using a whammy bar at the same time. I'm surprised there arent many death metal violinists around.

I need to hear this recorded professionally.
Wish there were more musicians that were famous for this kind of music :(
oh my crap.. this is so awesome..
