The armor in the beginning looks familiar because it is NCR Ranger armor from New Vegas.
That guy that lost his son is an icon…Thats Erik Estrada. From “C.H.I.P.S.” And many many other roles.
Unfortunately most of the latest generations watching this thinks "C.H.I.P.S." is an regressive acronym and violent speech.
Like when we use proper grammar with a comma, or ellipses...

As his career was fading after C.H.I.P.S, he did a TERRIBLE made-for-TV movie with one of the BEST B-movie character names ever: Juaquin de Diamantes.

Was going to comment exactly this. Norman is genuinely shocked when he walks in. Betty is also certainly aware that the prisoners were an extra liability due to their having been inside vault 32 and having seen what befell the residents there. She totally did it. And she lets the poor prison guard girl take the fall.

There was a fan theory that he continues to wear his same outfit in the hope that his daughter would recognize him when they reunite. Also that horse saddlebag is likely from the last horse he ride and kept it for memory sake.

I've probably been thinking about this too much but Vault 4 makes a lot of sense. Cooper says in the commercial that you would have up to 200 neighbors and then the scientist, Hawthorne, says his family and 80 volunteers were going to reside in the Vault before the war. So when the bombs fell the Vault was under populated, they already had the honey pot set up on the surface to take in any outsiders who survived.
They were experimenting on people that survived the initial exposure to radiation. Then later the Overseer of Vault 4 says they continue to let in new people because of a "policy before his time", meaning they stopped experimenting on the new comers but kept allowing them a place in the Vault as they found their way in. With a growing number of outsiders of course they would continue to push to let new people live there if they could be proven to act in the best interest of the community.
And of course their worst fear would be either being sent or sent back to the surface.

The Ghoul in the guy's house scene is an homage to a scene in The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. It's the first scene with Angel Eyes (the bald one). The father in this scene was played by Erik Estrada who played Ponch in the TV series CHIPS in the 80s. He was a big deal back then.

One theory is that serum is FEV, so its up in the air as to whether he's a Ghoul, or Super Mutant
since Harold was a FEV mutant, it's possible... but unlikely imho. it's most likely some drug that stops ghouls going feral, new thing in the series.

There's a fan theory that says that all Ghouls are, in fact, created via FEV. There's no way that ghouls could be created by JUST radiation. It's impossible. Radiation in that concentration kills EVERYTHING.
HOWEVER, the theory goes that there was tons of FEV at various research labs in major cities all across the country (which definitely holds up in the lore, since there are Super Mutants EVERYWHERE*), and when the nukes hit, it dispersed massive quantities into the atmosphere, infecting basically everyone on the surface with FEV. Combine that with high rads, and the body 'evolves' to become a ghoul. OR, as is the case with Thaddeus, take a single, concentrated hit, and BAM, instant Ghoul.
*=it takes MASSIVE amounts of FEV to create a Super Mutant. They literally have to soak regular humans in the stuff, in massive tanks, for a long period of time, so that it totally saturates the body. Given the abundance of Super Mutants in all the games, there would have to be HUGE stockpiles of the stuff, all over the country, to account for all the Super Mutants in all the games, given how spread out they all are.

See ppl need to pay attention to this sence alot ppl are made about ncr in show but this guy used to be a ranger n his son has someone else ranger armor showing the real NCR are no longer in the area and the remaining ppl are just remnant of the ncr. See alot ppl get mad about the next episode but this sence shows you the real NCR have moved out of the area

Deathclaws were bred by the Govermint during/after the war, from chameleons to replace human soldiers in the fight against the rad monsters.
Despite their looks, ghouls are actually not dead and their skin is not rotten😊 according to the lore.
the scene with Erik Estrada is the same as the villain's introduction scene in the 1966 film "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly"

I only recognize it from the Title Graphic to Fallout New Vegas (of which I haven't played)

NCR Ranger Armor. Few iterations of it. I think 3. Began as police riot gear before the bombs fell then adopted by the NCR for their Rangers.
If you pay attention, that’s the same guy trying to sell “serums that heal your feet!” To the doctor at the beginning when he was limping around on the Jim’s Limbs contraption. He wasn’t lying, it was a serum to heal your feet

@17:47 Yeah, she was being dismissive, but she was also telling the complete honest truth. People DO like to have things to fuss about. If they have no real problems or drama in their lives, they invent new sources of both so they can feel like their life and goals have meaning. This is why no "utopia" will ever work, even if someone manages to make one by some miracle. People would tear it all down from sheer boredom.

I think vaults 32 and 33 are basically the same with their purpose being that stated in episode 8. The rats overpopulation video was a red herring.
I think what Norm and Chet found in vault 32 was the result of a mutiny or revolution. Some how some of the people in 32 found out what was going on with 31 . The fighting was between supporters of the overseer and the rebels. The people hanging outside the overseer's office didn't hang themselves. They were either mutineers hung by the overseer's forces or survivors of the overseer's supporters hung by the rebels after they "won".
Ultimately, nobody won. I think the overseer set a sort of deadman's switch timer which released a powerful nerve gas into the vault which killed everyone left almost instantly. Hence, the bodies around the vault 31 door that looked like they died while working to break into 31.

We know what is in there
These messages were what led me to this theory of what happened in vault 32. Nothing from later episodes shook my faith in the theory.
I don't know what specific knowledge or actions triggered the rebellion. But I can imagine a number of possibilities that might have led to the overseer panicking and overreacting leading to strengthened support for the rebels.

I'm so looking forward to you watching the finale! I can't wait to talk about stuff, lol. The only thing I'll say right now is that I hope we get more of Thaddeus (Maximus' runaway squire) in season 2. The potential for more comic relief is so high with that character!

Theory: Chicken-fucking doctor is actually a ghoul, just not as far gone as others. When Honcho said, "a feral ghoul can't abide a chicken," he wasn't talking about EATING it...
Another theory: he's a scientist who also escaped from the enclave (maybe his unusual "scientific curiosity" wasn't well received there) and the serum he injected into Thadeus was the FEV and he's gonna turn into a super mutant instead of a ghoul

It has already been explained what the experiment in 32 is. There was the video with the rats eating each other because they didn't have anything to eat. Hunger That is to say, in 32 the food was taken away from them, the wheat was dried up, and they killed each other. The guy who had his hand in the toaster also only had one leg. The other one they must have eaten.

I hope we get more of Thaddeus in season 2 😂 he's hilarious. Also I don't think he's going to be a ghoul. Ghouls don't have body parts regenerate themselves, but what can cause body parts to regenerate? FEV can... I believe he's going to be a super mutant.
