    I did the 19.5’s on my 3500 the biggest issue I ran into was balancing, they are pricey but get some hub centric balancing rings about $450 cleared up the bumps and resonate bounce. I also run mine about 5- 10 pounds lower than max have had no wear issues and ran smooth.

My climb is at it lowest gear 3rd 45, at 2700 rpms but mostly in 4th at 60. But down my big grade it will want to go to 3000 and then I brake. Interesting video, older but still valid. I hear so many with F450’s removing 19.5’s and installing 17-20” and LT Tires. I personally have felt the 19.5 worthwhile over LT tires. More expensive, but longer wearing and higher loads.
    Good point on balancing… Centric Balancers are a plus!
    Another challenge… at least in IA are places that deal in 19.5 and mounts. Truck Semi shops aren’t always willing to work with Pickup trucks and our various brands desired.

  • @timmorgan8749

    I went to 19.5 24s on my trucks and only one has a flat bed. Because you can carry more weight, chp calculates that in to your haul, and with a regular bed you miss the truck inspections, sometimes. I just came up 88 yesterday pulling the dual tandem, big heavy 250 Bob and steel. They now tell me I can have a constant 1300 degrees in the turbo, that made a big difference,still had to use third, but that will still do 35

    I run 19.5's on my 2011 RAM 3500 single rear wheel and hate it. The steering needs constant correction and the ride is bone jarring on any kind of concrete or bad roads in general. Wear is great - looks like they will last for ever. Load capicity is increased too. Really need 2 things. On board compressor with air tank and air ride springs. If I could let the air down to 65 psi when empty and pump them up when loaded that would be a big improvement. Air bages would help level the load.

    Most/ dare I say all trucks axles add up to more than GVWR. The idea behind it is that if your GVWR was simply the sum of both axles you would have to have the truck loaded absolutely perfectly in order to be at GVWR and not over on one of the axles. By "derating" the GVWR you account for imperfect loading scenarios.
    This, combined with the government regulations as you mention about vehicle classes drives alot of the GVWR numbers. The reality is, there are vehicles that are essentially derated from the factory due to laws, not mechanical limitations.

  • @floydieharris6236
    @floydieharris6236 2 года назад

    I bet the derate is partially due to the smaller brake size required when using the 17” factory wheel on the 3500’s. That doesn’t explain the f450 derate.

    the problem with 19.5s is they are so narrow and there are no aggressive off road tires for them so they are notorious for getting stuck easily, way better off with going to a 20 inch rim if you ever leave the pavement because there is a much greater tire selection to choose from

      As an example, if the tire's dual load index is 120/116, the load capacity for a single tire is 3,086 lbs and the load capacity for two tires is 2,756 lbs. The capacity for two tires is lower than a single tire because if one tire fails, it ensures that the vehicle can continue to carry the load.

    • @JesusRoseAgain
      @JesusRoseAgain Год назад

      Other reason duals are down rated is because the weight doesn't sit evenly on both tires, because of surface differences, one tire gets more of the weight. Also, the duals fight each other slightly, so you have to derate.

      When i first got my 9 ton trl it didnt have brakes any more at the time. I towed it local 1 trip a week after purchasing with my chevy 2500 loaded to 20k gross. I went slow and downshifted. I felt it big time. I got the rear axle fixed up and im not worrying about the front axle. When loaded i agree trl brakes are stronger

    The 17s had good load ratings at 126. Now there is only one tire at 126, Nitto Dura Grappler. Just a highway tire, no good otherwise. There is one new tire Kanati Armor Hog that is rated 129. I used to use the 126 rated Nitto Terra Grappler. Great tires. Now most 17s are rated at only 121 or lower. Useless for me. At least in 16 trailer tires there are some decent load ratings at 131 for the all steels. I just replaced mine with 16 ply all steel at 132 load rating. You can look up the pounds numbers. Now for loading my dad taught me the real lesson one needs to tell. If the rims are cutting the tread, you are overloaded. If the rims are not cutting your tread you are loaded just right.

    • @rennen71
      @rennen71 2 года назад +1

      10 lugs on an 8 lug truck are purely for looks. You're better off to get a direct fit 8 lug so you don't have an extra adapter adding another failure point.

      If you Google miss use of anything and stuff breaks. All brands have had frame breaks when extremely over load and over leverage that back of the truck with campers or odd over hang flat beds. But glad you think that’s funny.

      Basic truck camper shouldn’t snap any Dooley. Putting a host Mammoth triple slide in a 3500 sure…. I’ve personally seen a dodge snap, it was a 2016. I don’t worry tho, I’ll drive down the road knowing my F450 will get me there safe.

      17.5 are typically used on the trailer. I wouldn’t even consider them for. A truck that already has 17s. The 17s exceed to gvwr.
