Not non-animal beings according to Peter's view though. Because they are not sentient beings.

Thank you very much for this discussion; there are numerous ways to help and do good, choose one issue close to your heart. Effective Altruism starts from knowing oneself, being authentic to self and finding a course that one believes in. Institutions need strengthening ; but, we need independent thinking and have an individual purpose to attribute to that makes one happy. ' Bigotry, Hate ', and proving a point is too much energy on the opposite direction.

Really agree with the need for institutions. The problem nowadays isn't to find information, but that we are flooded with too much of it and with more or less bad quality. We need trusted institutions to compile, filter, balance, distill, clarify information to make good decisions. Institutions with the right incentives.
'Trusted institutions?"And where might one find one of those? We allowed all of our current institutions to become hopelessly corrupted. Our society as a whole is morally bankrupt.

Women empowerment and Ecological crisis, I can see very logical connection with each other.
Like, the need of Save Soil movement, or soil infertility and infertility in women's body. Earth is loosing strength of growing something. And same system is showing in women are not willing to grow a child seeing poverty in human seeds.
I think both the aspects has similar cause of effects. And cause and effect of distrust in the institution and women empowerment is the effects in today's time. And Mother Earth has been to the ultimate and absolute source of building trust. The Hindi word "अर्थ" means right meaning of something. We know that there are very few people who are in action or working on the ideas of the rest.
And the Most are talking about many ideas or generates new ideas. Here some are using their Body particularly and rest are thinking or using their mind particularly. And obviously thinking is intangible. Hence, it seems highest amount of intangible productivity. In this situation, my question is that those who are in action, what type of content they actually watches spacially? I'm a kind of person who watches everything not very particularly. I think I'm not very good in taking action. Feeles good in thinking about different ideas. I watches this type of content 🤩. I believe in power of responsibility.

I think there are many dimensions to look for effective change. One that was not necessarily addressed was systemic reduction of harm to, well, everything by exploitation of economic systems by companies and governments. I was blown away by Raymond Baker's "invisible trillions" - I know this doesn't diminish the value or impact of what Peter and Yuval discussed, but I think it's just as important - and it's something in everyone's power to affect, even if they don't have much disposable income to donate, they can make choices about what they buy and how they vote, they can make choices about pressure they choose to put on elected officials. This aligns with everything you discussed as far as outcomes, but it's just another avenue that is not necessarily well explored.

Imo, part of the issue regarding trust in institutions might be that often people have a tendency to view certain situations in terms of 'black and white'. It's not necessarily that the institutions are untrustworthy, but the minute a scandal happens involving a 'trusted' institution, or even a perceived minor incident in which say for example, funds aren't allocated the ways they were intended to be, the trust is seemingly completely shattered and people tend to believe less and less that other institutions, even those with no ties to the now 'untrustworthy institution', are trustable as well. I would almost say it's more of a reputation issue, in which reputations can be tarnished much quicker than they can be repaired, and once the initial trust is gone, the idea is that it's much more difficult to retrieve if possible at all.

Trust is earned if an institution you give to is ethical. Too many are not. Or, spent on too high salaries, fancy office space. Not to speak of needless paperwork and beurocratic process.

yes and not only that but men like myself are the predominant cause of all suffering toward animals and humans. most animal charities in Asia that I have supported are mostly run and supported by women. and most vegans, people lowering their meat consumption and vegetarians that I met are women. I even atented a vegan program in my country with 400 attendees and most are women.

Yuval- "one of the biggest ethical dilemmas we are facing currently is detiorating trust of people in institutions which reveberates into many moral issues". This is a very important point he is making. The interviewer and Peter Singer are saying there are several charities that can be trusted! I'm suprised at their response. 1- The scale of these charities can never be that of institutions such as World Bank, UNESCO, UNICEF or even state Govt. Secondly- the whole question is about building trust- whether for charities OR institutions. We need 100% trustworthy bodies certifying these institutions and charities!

Yuval Noah Harari, an Israeli professor of history, was born on 24 February, 1976 in Kiryat Ata City in Israel. Harari was raised in Haifa, which is the third largest city in Israel in a profane Jewish family with Lebanese and Eastern European origin. First time I've disagreed, 'No clear trend of human improvement'. He needs to understand 'Integral Theory', developmental consciousness.
I think he's referring to the fact that improvement is not obvious because it goes up and down, not that there's no improvement in the very long term.
@@MrMiaumee It 'appears' to go up and down because of the way he is looking at it, his 'metatheory'. I'm saying if he looked at the broad sweep of history, different for different geohistorical entities, through the LENS of Integral Theory, he would be able to see the developmental structures, and the movement through those structures, as folks achieved the resource levels to support higher group functioning. Diamond in Guns, Germs, and Steel, shows the differential cultural evolutionary forces.
@@DennisCrow Harari too explores humanity's past, present and future in his books (he is a historian after all). Unlike Diamond or Wilber, I feel like he's very reluctant in making a positive judgment about human progress. Perhaps he feels that one day all the progresses we'd have made can come to an abrupt stop with a misstep... His take on AI is reminiscent of that way of thinking.
@@MrMiaumee I am a Panentheist and practitioner of nondual states of consciousness. I am pretty sure AI is going to figure all that out and start helping humanity to achieve this goal. I'm surprised he doesn't suggest a AI/ZEN hybrid! There's a fair amount of research into the neurophysiology of these states and training them as well. Gamechanger.

I will put another one: in "will the future be human?" Harari says that bodies, brains and minds will be the most important products in the economy of the future, that data today is the most important asset in the world and that A.I. represents an evolution of consciousness. Let that sink in! First of all, it is not data that represent the most important asset in the world but consciousness. Data are subject to interpretation and interpretation is subject to consciousness. Finally, and this is the most important missing link: consciousness depends on the evolution of the soul. It is telling thus that Harari says the soul is an illusion. Truth is that Harari's ideas are an illusion, not the soul. The world that will be created will be a product of humanity's consciousness, not of the data today available. Denying the soul is an indicator of low consciousness, so why are people still paying attention to this man who contradicts himself all the time?

@@MsSilver41 for you and me it is obvious that Harari and his supporters are lost in left brain analyses. Harari has said that people do not know themselves and that A.I. therefore comes to the rescue. Truth is that Harari does not know himself and therefore proposes diabolical solutions to humanity. Knowing oneself does not come from left brain analyses, but from developing right brain skills, which clearly Harari lacks, even though he practices Vipassana meditation.The left side of the brain can then categorize and analyse what is explored by the right brain. That is the way it is meant to be, but because of centuries or milennia of left brain dominance in the world, people have forgotten how the brain and consciousness actually works.
Harari is a professor in history. What must be understood about history is that it is a convenient arrangement of facts designed by the Elite to control the people. People supporting Harari are not aware of this and buy into his bias. Mythology on the other hand, is the story of growth through time. Mythology empowers people to discover their participation in the divine unfolding, and thus allows people to assimilate experience. There is a book that excells here and guides people through the last 100.000 years by means of mythology and a whole new date convergence in archeology, geology and other earth sciences: "Awakening the planetary mind" by Barbara Hand Clow. The author is an internationally acclaimed astrologer and awakened human. It is an anti-dote to the destructive work of Harari.
........and if someone TRULY wants to be of service to Earth, there is a book to read, "Manifesto for the noosphere-the next stage of evolution in human consciousness" by Jose Arguelles. There is also a website involved, but I noticed that when I mention this website, my comment is refused. You'll find the website in the book anyway. Have to say though that this book and the website require a willingness of higher thinking, something quite foreign to a mind like Harari's.
When asked in an interview posted on youtube what is left for humans if they are to give up free will, Harari responded: exploring reality.............Let it be known that souls on Earth have had enough time and opportunities to explore all kinds of realities. The human collective is now ready to a new ( for Earth) evolutionary goal: mastery of the Cosmic Self ( as opposed the ego self). Those who are not ready to embrace this new evolutionary goal will be removed from this planet and be put on a planet where they can explore reality at their heart's content, but on Earth this choice no longer exists. That is because it goes against the wish of the collective voice of this planet which always rules supreme, for we DO live in a Universe of free will, whether Harari acknowledges it or not.

The Netherlands and also a lot of other countries has given the poor people lots and lots of money for decades and decades. Still a lot of these countries are poor. The people there who also rule these countries should lead these countries well and that does not happen. It's always been this way and it will not change long-term. Their moral and how to change the poverty is not on there agenda, otherwise with the amount of money from other countries for years and years (millions of euro's/dollars etc.for development aid they have gotten) they could have changed it. You can donate as much as you want, it will not change. So far history has proven this and also that you can not trust a lot (not everyone of course) of those organisations, wake up please? The politics in these "poor" non developed countries are rotten and a lot of them are corrupt. As long as a country is ruled by these kind of people it never becomes anything, unfortunately. I know that "collectively"they maybe could change this but still it's difficult otherwise there wouldn't be poor countries anymore this time of day. As long as humans will exist there will be a lac of trust and groups of people can/will destroy it for others. Countries that deal more consciously with each other, these problems are much less like the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and more European countries. As a lot of people stay ignorant in a lot of countries it's difficult to change these problems, I think. Just as David Attenborough said that birth control is one of the solutions of mankind to manifest, but how? Men should then become infertile maybe . Every responsibility begins with ourself and not with pointing to others 😀.
Singer and Hariri do not talk about eschatology or Jesus -he will not be mocked
Pretty inadequate, limited, individualistic and "pro-charity" answers in most questions.
Both of them advocated in favor to institutions (1st half) only to withdraw to individualistic approaches (2nd half) that disregard political actions that aim on certain institutions that "maximize suffering" both qualitive and quantative. Note that Harari also presented a deterministic realtion of humans-to-institutions that disregards both the actual socio-economic factors and the social relations in a crude historical view (chaos vs order) that contextualized nothing. Also, not "understanding why fundamentalist christians fight against gay marrige" is really disturbing for someone that has even the slightest clue of sociology (as the presentator indicated politely). There is also a fail, or rather an attempt to not, contextualize the "lack of trust" with the actual reality of how institutions opperate (corruption, capitalism, colonialism, economy, etc.).
All the above boil down to a very naive "choose the best (global) institution that fits you" argument based on a "knowledge" argument that is also based on deterministic assumptions. On top of it there is a VERY obvious and IMPORTANT lack of connecting a "proliferation of suffering" with capitilism and certain institutions.
Lastly the talk starts without presenting Singer after telling us how many things has Harari achieved, a really lame practice.

Compassion (the action that comes out of empathy + awareness) is an immediate drive - no need to Be or Want anyone or anything SPECIFIC to be compassionate...
Meaning, is mediate! - f.e.: wanting to claim and proof that "I" am: Compassionate, a good person, a christian, social activist, someone who cares etc...
Philanthropy basically is: conscience shopping and self-assertion.

Institutions don't suffer...
Wrong, Harvard, technological success convinced us that we know the consequences of our individual or group actions but in reality we discover that we understand very few of the large numbers of unintended consequences of our actions. And we are disgusted with ourselves.
