Roy's vocal talent was incomparable. Additionally, he was genuine - a man with real CLASS. He was kind to everyone. He suffered terribly losing -- his wife and sons, yet he went on. What an example to be admired forever. RIP Roy and thanks for the treasures you left us.
Roy's voice makes you feel like your in heaven, then he kicks it in and you feel the vocal power he possessed. He brings out your emotions like no other.
Might be one of the best backup bands ever assembled. Springsteen, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, k.d. lang, Bonnie Raitt... and even then everyone is glued to Roy. Truly one of the best performances in music history.

I first heard Roy in about 1960 and became an instant fan. I was a very young man and throughout the years I bought just about every record and album that was produced by him. I listened to him constantly and to this day claim there has never been a greater singer than this man who died just too young. I still play his records on my old player but have now given many of my albums to my sons who also fell in love with his voice and songs. What a great gift to man and this gift is now upstairs welcoming all of us to the Lord's palace.
This whole night, this whole concert. It was something rare and beautiful. One of the best human voices in the second half of the 20th century, backed up by some of the greatest talents in popular culture at the time gave us something for generations to treasure.
I'm not religious, but Roy Orbison makes me believe it could happen that angels walk the earth sometimes. Not only an immense talent as a songwriter and singer, but also a very humble and gracious man. I remember I cried the day he died. I'm no so sentimental, and it hasn't happened since. I think next time I'll cry for the death of a celebrity will be when Brian Wilson leaves us. I still love Roy Orbison, I'll always love him and Brian Wilson. Musicians like these are so very, very rare. Let's be thankful we know them.
I will certainly piss off many people by what I shall write hence. Roy deserves the title of King of Rock and Roll more than Elvis ever will. I love Elvis for what he had and did. Roy wrote everything he sang and his lyrics were so damn real to so many of us. Elvis entertained. Roy related. Elvis was royalty. Roy was one of us. Elvis became the showman. Roy was the journeyman. I will always love Elvis and I will always love Roy. Perhaps Elvis is the King......and Roy is our hero and comfort. Roy is there when we need him most. See you someday Roy and thank you. Prince of the masses.
I think Ian that they both were very talented musicians. Both had lovely voices. Elvis was known for his good looks, sexiness and charisma...Roy, less so, but Roy was a well respected Singer/Songwriter. They both had different styles....both wonderful and missed talented Gentlemen.
Ian, no one could have put it better, and Elvis did say Roy had the greatest voice in Rock & Roll. If there is a Rock & Roll Heaven Roy is singing to the Angels.
I'll never forget reading that even Elvis Presley was quoted as saying that his favorite singing voice was this great man, Roy Orbison. And what's even more amazing was that Roy never sounded better than at that Black & White concert at the Ambassador Hotel, in spite of it being only a year or so before he passed away. I know that Linda had a big hit with this song but damn, the way Roy did it was the greatest!
Watched this concert on PBS several years ago. By far the best concert by one of the greatest voices EVER! Great musicians and contributors made it superb!
Effortless singing. Just amazing. So sad he left us right after this was recorded. To those ignorant of rock-and-roll history, please look up and study Roy Orbison, his 5-octave range, and how he sang. Roy is, IMO, the top ever R&R vocalist, followed by Freddie Mercury. An amazing, professional gentleman talent.
How is it possible that Roy lived until 1988 and I born in 1991. I certanly born in the wrong age! Good music, excellent singer. I miss something that I don't know exactly, but I find it when I listen to such beatiful music.
