Sam wainwright was a good friend. He was an old character who genuinely loved George. He got out of Bedford falls, and I think some people think Sam was jealous of George but Sam had a wife and seemed happy living the life George originally wanted, but it seems like Sam was appreciative of the good things George did there in Bedford. Which is why every time he was there he was happy to hang out with and spend time with George, and when he heard he was in trouble had no second thoughts about giving his friend what ever he needed.
Sam did all the things George THOUGHT he wanted to do...Sam traveled the world and had money, but George was the one that became rich...he had family, friends and respect. Sam genuinely admired George because he had all the things money couldn't buy.
Sam wainwright may have been the one to find success out of Bedford falls but he never forgot where he came from. George and Sam knew each other since childhood and in the end he loved george just like everyone else, one of the best films ever made imo.
Am i the only one who despised Wainwright till the end when he bailed George out and gave him probably enough for that vacation? His adult heehaws made him such an asshole and manchildish, rubbing it in to George
Understandably, but Sam Wainwright DID see the good in George & loved him as a friend despite any difference of opinion in life, he's a wonderful role model, in my opinion, for people to remember it's the human that counts, not the money.

He was a donkey alright. His redemption came when he used his plastics money to bail out "the richest man in town."
