I was 12 years old and distinctly remember when she died as her films had been re-run on TV for weeks. My mum had watched her films as a girl in the 1930's, so it was sad for both of us. Jeanette died far 'too young'. Such joy she brought into the world was taken with her death.
I would be 2 years old in 19 days and living a mile from here that funeral day. ❤🙏😇 RIP Jeanette. Today I listened to their songs all night (Nelson & Jennette)🌙 . What a joy! I'm 57 years old, married 33 years & 9 beautiful grandkids. 🤗🇺🇲🥰
My mother introduced me to the world of operettas back in the mid 1950's. I think the first one I saw was Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald in Naughty Marietta and after that I saw all the movies they made together. Naughty Marietta was my very favorite but I loved "New Moon" and "Rose Marie". I saw other movies of them both when they did movies with other people. My mother had a crush on Nelson Eddy, John Boles, and Ronald Colman. I thought Nelson Eddy was so handsome and I just loved when he and Jeanette sang together. I remember when Jeanette passed from a heart attack at the age of 61 because I was a little over 18 then in January of 1965. Then Nelson Eddy passed in 1967 at the age of 65. Though I will be 68 next month I feel lucky that I was able to live during the time of some wonderful singers and music. While I love all kinds of music I still love the operettas and no one writes those kind of songs anymore. I also noticed Barry Goldwater and Leon Ames as pallbearers there. Anyway thanks for the video.
Jeannette and Eddy were my only heros as a child. They used to play their movies in strides on TV in Belgium Saturday afternoon. The only free afternoon coming out of what I considered a jail the boarding school. The place where I was abused and molested as a boy in a convent boarding school for five years nearly every day. I never spoke about it till suing the church many decades later. I wrote a book about it all but haven't manged to find a quality publisher. Jeannette MacDonald and Eddy Nelson were my TOTAL OVER THE TOP pleasure and mental dream escape when I was a child and teenager. The romance in the movies was about the ONLY thing that made me feel good for a few hours. Sunday afternoons were already spoiled, as one had to start packing to be back at the Christian jail by 5pm. What astounded me most is the Indian Love song and now at my age I actually have come to live in Canada. The country looking so much like this particular song. Her movies still make me cry for I don't know what exact. I guess, recalling moments of happiness and forgetting my traumas then. I was and remained a sucker for romance and real love. Lucky I found someone to cater to these needs and receive mine. It is a shame that the fancy world of Opera an institution in Austria where I came from, has never adopted Miss Jeanette as an accomplished singer. A disgrace as so few singers then united beauty charm and song.
Thank you so much for each and every gift if these videoes that are so beautiful of such true beauty and love to help us all aspire to knowing with then Love resided and si beautifully exptressed
Quite a contrast between her funeral and Nelson's. I do really hope and pray that they WILL see one another again. What a beautiful but tragic love story they had and lived.
I was a little girl back then, but my mother was a huge fan of both Jeanette and Nelson. We didn’t live far away from Glendale and might have been able to attend with the fans. I wish we had.
I am only 82my husdand was 10 year thaan an itwas through him got in seeying there movies theey use to put there movies once wkely when we got married in 1963
I just became a fan about 2 months ago and I feel that the negative forces in her life played a significant role in her premature death and prevented her true love for Nelson to flourish I realize that there are other factors in her death such as her health but I love hearing Jeanette and Nelson sing and I feel that they are together in the after life
SHE WAS SUCH A NATURAL UNFORGETTABLE PERSON - I FEEL HER SPIRIT IS STILL ALWAYS IN MY HEART, AND WITH US!!! LOVE YOU ALWAYS, JEANETTE!!! SILMY in HONGKONG
jeanette was a good fine hearted loving person. thjis was terrible back then and still is todate. awful her loss was too sudden and much too early for sure.we all miss her personal appearances and wonderful singing. dear jeanette
It breaks my heart that a love so deep and beautiful had to end like it did. If ever a love like theirs should have ended with "and they lived happily ever after" !
According to Nelson they didn’t fix her up too good in the coffin. He was used to seeing her looking glamorous. Oh well unfortunately you look dead it’s a reality. They loved each other till the end.
Could anyone help me please? I'm looking for the lyrics of the song Ciribiribin that Mrs. Mc Donald used to sing. On the internet there are versions that do not match the lyrics of the song that appears on RUclips. I tried to write it down from what i listen but my english is not good enough for that. Thanks !!!

Richard Curry Welp, my research partner and I found this listed in the archives of the LOC. We got the contact info and paid good money out of our pockets to get the footage digitized so I could upload and make this historical document available for folks like you to view free of charge. Sorry if it doesn’t meet your high standards🙄🙄🙄

My favourite is 'Sweet Mystery of Life', always brings tears to my eyes because it reminds me of my long gone mother.
TY for the upload, even if it is utterly heartbreaking. I noticed that fine actress Greer Garson among the mourners.

I agree Linda & can only pray that as you say, Jeanette & Nelson are together in a higher place. -)
I completely agree with you. I hope and pray that they are able to love each other in peace, harmony and freedom forever.
Me too 😢
She will live on for a long time in our hearts. 🙏🌹
Thanks for sharing

what a great loss.....................................................................................................................
One of the pallbearers is veteran character actor and MGM contract player, Leon Ames.
It breaks my heart that a love so deep and beautiful had to end like it did. If ever a love like theirs should have ended with "and they lived happily ever after" !
Wasn't that Greer Garson who got out of the Rolls at the beginning?
Yes indeed.
Also among the mourners Jack Oakie from her days at Paramount and the great Danish heldentenor Lauritz Melchior.
According to Nelson they didn’t fix her up too good in the coffin. He was used to seeing her looking glamorous. Oh well unfortunately you look dead it’s a reality. They loved each other till the end.
