    The lad had a set of pipes. Along with Jeanette MacDonald became Hollywood's most famous singing duet. He outlived her by two years. The entertainment industry was never able to reproduce their magic. It was said by those who were close to him, that he never really recovered from her passing. Together they made the world a better place.

    TY for the upload again, though it's so heartrending to view. Fine tribute from a fine actor Lloyd Nolan.

    So sad to watch, takes you back to a time you never wanted to be in. But he died doing what he loved. A beautiful looking man and great vocalist.

    We all know the love of his life was Jeanette and not his wife Adele and we all know the love of her life was Nelson and not her husband Gene. Such a pity they couldn't live it together.

      Your quite right about his love for Jeanette MacDonald (and hers for him). Long, sad story. But his wife's name was Ann Franklin Eddy (exwife of director Sidney Franklin).

    Oh, my, what a treasure1 Where do you find these things? I was 20 when he died and I was devastated. I still had a schoolgirl crush on him.
    In 2012 I visited his grave at what is now called Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Just stumbled across it, actually, when I was doing some Ancestry research. What a find! I left some flowers...

      We found this footage via a research project at Library of Congress and paid to have it digitized to share. We visited his grave at Hollywood forever last year too on a visit to California. I quite agree, he was wonderful! Thanks for leaving a comment Trish.

    Sad to see people you enjoyed in the movies pass away still young in their 60's. He would have been 66 that year. I was a Wave in the Navy when he passed in 1967. Gene Raymond did resemble Nelson Eddy too. Gene died in 1998 at age of almost 90 and remarried 10 yrs after Jeanette MacDonald passed. Life is short ..people have to enjoy things while they can. I am not a person who likes to visit cemetaries but before I die I want to visit where Marilyn Monroe is buried and its only a short ride by 2 buses to see that..at the Hollywood Forever Cemetary.

    I've seen pictures of Nelson Eddy and Gene Raymond. I can't help noticing that they kind of look like one another.

    • @AngelaM55
      @AngelaM55  9 лет назад +4

      Heru- deshet Yes, there is a resemblance. Jeanette herself said Gene looks like he could be Nelson's younger brother. She slipped up on a person to person interview in the late 50s saying that the men were often mistaken when they are with her and Gene signs Nelson's autograph and Nelson signs Gene. Why on earth would Nelson Eddy be signing Gene Raymond's name? Guess they were together someplace where folks assumed she was with her husband (i.e. in a personal rather than professional capacity).

      Except Nelson EDDY was taller and better looking and not a cold fish like Raymond. My mother lived in Philadelphia back then and saw them in person and on stage...she had an extensive scrapbook and memorabilia collection that she left to me...I grew to live that beautiful couple when I was a little girl...when Nelson passed away my mom was in the hospital with major surgery...his passing came on the news on TV and I quickly rushed to turn it off! She didn't find out til she came home a week later....it was heartbreaking when she found out...but appreciated that I didn't tell her sooner....I would walk miles with my mother to go c there movies ...we lived in Southern N J then....thkx for bringing back these memories...

      al meggs No. Eddy was raised as an Episcopalian. His will stipulated that his service be performed in any Protestant form and that he be cremated. His wife complied with the former request (an Episcopalian minister conducted the service) but ignored the latter and buried him.
