When Utah Lighthouse Ministries were sued by LD$ for voicing an opinion, I took a stand against LD$ and had my name and number removed. I would sneak out of the house (away from husband and kids) like having an affair, go to Salt Lake City, and learn about christianity and jesus. This was taught by Jerald who passed away. Little did I know my mentor Sandra Tanner, would become famous in docu series NETFLIX.Murder.Amongst.The.Mormons

I have a similar story. Started talking to sister missionaries. Throughout the process I began to feel one of them liked me. Always sat next to me, started giving me handshake and first bumps. After multiple indicators of interest I thought she genuinely interested. So I reached out once she got home and completely ignored me after 3 attempts over 3 months. I came up the conclusion that she only showed interest in me to get me baptized and had no interest in talking to me once she left the ward. It left a sour taste in my mouth and I haven’t been back to church because of this situation

I was a victim of missionary dating in 1974, while I was attending univeristy (Not BYU!). This was, obviously, long before the internet and readily available information about the so-called church. I finally escaped in 1984. Again, no internet information or support from other ex-Mormons. I felt so totally alone, as if I were the only ex-Mormon in the world. But I had to follow the obvious truth and leave it behind. It was truly the loneliest time of my life, but I survived and overcame.

I'm glad he's in a good place now but wow, the church did so much harm to him.
I can relate to the "women won't date non missionaries". I never felt the call to serve, ever, and couldn't date at all after high school because of it.
I found a girl I was interested in and was considering going BACK to church for her (yeah, I was young and dumb) but eventually it came out that she couldn't be with me since I wasn't an RM. I think her patriarchal blessing told her she would marry an RM and so she was making that come true.

I am a non-moron, but lived in Ogden during Spencer W. Kimball's reign. I was stationed at Hill AFB, we were the first air combat wing to be stationed there. It was hell. My family and I lived in a new subdivision that was primarily non mormon. The kids that were mormons would not play with the non mormon kids. In school, my child was separated from the other kids, because she was not mormon and was the first non mormon child to attend there. We finally got the Air Force Staff Judge Advocate involved and threatened a class action law suit against the school district for discrimination. Things got a little better but it was never good. We were glad to leave there.

Thankfully I stopped attending the Church the day I left BYU in 1985 and had my name removed in 2002. Name removal is very easy to do and you do NOT have to go through your local ward Bishop to do so. There is a lot of help on the internet on how to do this.

I grew up in the midwest and spent a couple years on the east coast after high school. I met many Mormons from Utah and Idaho and had little glimpses in them being more strict. But until I came across this channel and Mormon Stories, I had no idea just how different Mormon culture is out there. Confessing to bishops, etc? Just WOW. My only experience with that was having a bishop come to my house where I lived with friends. I was an adult in my early 20s and had stopped attending church, out of a lack of interest more than anything. I’m assuming my dad gave this man my address. Anyway, he had the nerve to ask if I had anything to repent for, in MY HOUSE, uninvited. I said no and sent him on his way.
Although my family attended church regularly and my parents were active until they passed, after hearing other stories, I’m realizing our house was on the Mormon light side. Books and music weren’t monitored , I attended tons of rock concerts. R rated movies and foul language were the big no-nos.
Anyway, I appreciate the people brave enough to share their stories and hope they’re in happier times now. Also, with the exception of that one bishop, I met so many truly lovely Mormon friends, home teachers and such, especially while living in Maryland.

Listening to tales of confrontations by church leaders, it always struck me as so very weird that anyone would allow anybody to engage them in that way. Of course it is nobody's business what goes on in our private romantic lives! It is the most intimate thing imaginable. You betray a significant confidence if you name your partner in a discussion such as that. How strange is it that we allow this to go on in the 21st century?! My woman friends talk about priesthood leaders coming into their homes to make this sort of accusation. I have said, "They are in your home?! It's YOUR home! Why on earth didn't you just tell them to leave?" Wow. We are easily led. Escape from this nonsense is as easy as just walking away.

As far as I know, missionaries aren't allowed to date on their mission.
But I've heard of plenty of people who were not members, got converted by a missionary, after the missionary is finished with their mission, they reconnect and start dating.
In this context, it's common in the culture for young people to be told "flirt to convert" because, as a teen, you're taught to only marry someone who is "worthy to take you to the temple."
I myself actually attempted to "flirt to convert" my non-member boyfriend (now husband) but funny enough, he opened my eyes to the cult and I left Mormonism because of our relationship.

So brutally I wished her happy thanksgiving and got no response just radio silence. I completely lost any and all respect for her. Few months later I decided to send her one final message to call her out on her unacceptable behavior and if she wasn’t interested romantically a simple graceful rejection is expected. That was March of last year and been no contact since. She’ll either never contact me or when she starts running out of marriage options she’ll probably reach out. I periodically Facebook stalk her to see if she’s married yet and far as I know she’s not. Been home for 19 months now and not married yet. Serves her right karma

No matter that they were crying, and sliding off their chairs, the Primary workers would Not Stop trying to Force the children to sing. Forcing them to chant over and over again words that they couldn't even understand. Getting mad and annoyed at the children's misbehavior. They had already been in church for almost 3 hours. **Important Point**
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is serious about the law of chastity. The gentlemen in this letter either missed the memo when he joined the church, or chose not to respect it. We in the church are not just talking about this commandment. If you can't give up casual sex outside marriage you shouldn't expect to feel comfortable in the church, and subsequently shouldn't join it. This was a good separation on his part, and would have eventually been initiated from the church end if he didn't initiate first. Most of us who are active in the church like it this way.

      “…casual sex outside marriage…”
The way the writer tells it, there was nothing casual about it. It was mutual and inside loving, monogamous relationships. I think that’s healthier than the countless stories of LDS young adults (sometimes still in their teens) who marry within months of meeting someone because their pent up sex drive is doing their thinking. I guess the Mormon god is OK with that plan.

I read all the books, as a teen. I would bet a million dollars that I read more than you. I prayed constantly. Went to 99.9% of my meetings. General conference was never missed. I attended the temple, where they trick you, and I had to Act out the ways I would be killed if I spoke about the ridiculous temple activities and secrets, including slitting my throat and disemboweling myself. I wore my garments every day. Served a mission. Taught Relief Society, Homemaking Nights, Young Women, Primary, Nursery, Cub Scouts. My husband was in the Bishopric, and Stake Presidency.
I'm here to tell you that ExmoLex speaks the truth. I think YOU have been misled. You should really study more. The "Church" hates open minds.
