It was a true pleasure to watch this man do what he did .There is a treasure trove of lessons to be learned from this , he had his systems his way he had complete ownership of the whole process and with genuine charisma. Passing down what he had learned .thank you for these videos as its a portal to the past .
Love the Grandpa. I am Indian but consider myself honorary Italian (wine making connection) ! I have been making wine for the last 10 years just like this grandpa. I never used outside yeast or any chemicals. 100% natural.
Hi...I just wanted to let you know that I have been making homemade wine for 15 years. At first I used to try to make it more refined but the last 3 years, I went back to the old way of making wine. Just like my grandfather did and the way your grandfather does. Its the best tasting vino ! Since I discovered your video of your grandfather , I use it as an inspiration when I make wine. So, every year, at this time, as I am about to do the wine, I watch your video. He looks like a great man ( like my grandfather was ). Thanks for sharing this video ..Salute e a cento anni !
That's a nice-a-nice Nonno!! Best wine video I have seen. If you have never been to Italy in October and walked the purple streets as your feet stick to the uneven pavement and witnessed gutters lined with grape skins....its a "MUST" you do so. Thanks for sharing Nonno, Ciao!!
I had an Uncle that didnt realise the potency and beauty of how these Gentlemen made their wines, watching this takes me back to those days. The best wines to drink.
So he told me that the grape crusher and grape press was sold at the same place he buys the grapes from. If you live in Canada, I believe the supermarket Fortino's also sells it. If you are in the States, I would imagine that any place that sells the grapes would also have it. Hope this helps! PS - He also said if you are ever in Toronto that you should come on up and buy his hahaha
A fun and interesting video to watch - I just think it is great to see his other endeavours on the shelf behind. Also, watching this makes me realise how OTT my wine making has become. Great work. Thks for bring us this video. Salute
Damn, I was paranoid about sanitizing all of my equipment till I watched this. If this veterano doesnt give a shit then why should I, the dudes covering his barrel with a t shirt for god sake. OG right there🤘🤷😂
Thank you so much for this video. I watched this a couple years ago and now I’ve made my own wine. Your Nono and mine have much in common! Hope all is well.
Is it possible to add apples and pears to the grapes after doing the first batch ? I was planning to do this but with white wine. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
Thank you! I'm not sure where you can find the grape crusher, but I will ask my Nonno and get back to you. In regards to the second part of your question, no he does not use sugar or yeast. It's all natural (no chemicals/additives) so it takes some time to ferment and age but it's worth it in the end :) And yes, always keep the traditions alive! Thanks again!
Hi, I saw this video today for the first time. Realize it was made 10 years ago 😮 thank you for posting this video with your grandfather making wine. Very inspirational. He was 85 year old at the time.
Hello! I will find out how long it must ferment before being transferred to the damigiana this weekend. My grandfather makes the wine, so he is the expert. I'll ask him this weekend and get back to you in a few days! Thank you. And yes, chemical free is the best way!
How long it will take fermentation after crushing the grapes. One more thing no need to mix any stuff like as yeast or other thing. Please suggest me as soon as possible thnx.
wow! 84.. amazing good healthy man. My father also looked healthy at 83. Even though he was a soldier who was sick from radiation from an atom bomb, and so had 4 cancers, he had jet black hair, was very happy and lived to 83. He always drank red wine, and so I believe very strongly that wine keeps you healthy a long time. thankyou
love this watch it over and over...does he make any other fruit wines...like apple or any other fruit..and does he do it this same way? does he do any thing with the skin like Iv'e heard (grappa) not sure on spelling....thanks again for this all natural vid and some thing we need to always take with us into every generation....Thank you would love to meet this man...whats his name?
+Copat87 hi, it's Frank from Naples Florida. After reading some of the comments below, I was saddened to learn that Nonno had passed away, I am so sorry for your loss. It's wonderful that you have some of his memories on film, I never met my nonno's, they had passed before I was born however, I do make all of the things that they used to make such as cheese, wine, coppa, salame and prosciutto. I hope you keep his spirit alive and continue to make all of the goodies that Nonno used to make. Maybe your children will also follow in his and your footsteps. Again, I am so sorry to hear of nonno's passing. I always enjoyed all of his videos and I can't tell you how many times I've watched them over and over. God bless Nonno and your whole family. 😞🇨🇦🇺🇸
Did Nonno ever use an air lock on his big carboy containers. I noticed he only had a plastic bag over the hole ( at 3:14) after the fermentation. So is an air lock necessary? If not, how did he avoid it changing to vinegar?
Bravissimo! Da quale parte d'Italia era tuo nonno? Anche noi siamo italiani che ora sono a Toronto. Origini di Cosenza e Palermo. My Italian is rough. I don't go to Italy nearly enough.... From what part of of Italy was your Nonno? We are also Italians living in Toronto. This reminds me of childhood with my father in the garage making wine in this same way. It's been a long time but I now have the press and this year I'll be making my first attempt. It's been many years since I watched him do this. Any chance you're going to be keeping his press turning?
Похоже что у Итальянцев с Русскими одинаковые представления о технике безопасности... Люблю этот народ ))) Итальянского вина в моём погребе 10 бутылок ,против 12 бутылок от остального мира . Браво !!!!)))))
You're kidding! That's where I live haha and my Nonno is in Toronto. Sounds good! Next time you are visiting your relatives here let me know and if you're still interested in the machine my Nonno will sell it to you. Haha he always loves guests! No he adds nothing tot he wine, it's all natural. No problem!
use a hydrometer to know when to change out the wine. take reading at crush time and never let it go below 4 , than change to secondary fermentor . That's for beginners, I use my taste buds.
Did you nonno live in Etobicoke? Close to the queensway? I'm also from this area. Unfortunately I was too young when my nonno died. I never learnt the craft but my brother and I are attempting this weekend with his old equipment. Rip to your nonno, happy you were able to share this moment with the world
Love that old dude.. reminds me of my own Nonno who passed 40 yrs ago.. God bless him indeed.

This is beautiful.. gorgeous outdoor wine making.. probably homemade sauces jarred on the shelf.. THAT is the way to live life.. -sigh- :)
What part of Italy is your Nonno from? Mine was from Borgotaro just outside of Parma and he made wine also exactly like this!
I had an Uncle that didnt realise the potency and beauty of how these Gentlemen made their wines, watching this takes me back to those days. The best wines to drink.
I vini fanno schifo! Ma loro sono comunque adorabili!

I so a lot of home videos where people use airlocks, would you not do for this process? Like is the plastic bag on top of the bottle enough ?
Did Nonno ever use an air lock on his big carboy containers. I noticed he only had a plastic bag over the hole ( at 3:14) after the fermentation. So is an air lock necessary? If not, how did he avoid it changing to vinegar?
He makes it same as I do in Poland, simple and propper method
What if small rubbber particles from the mill fall into the wort...then you drink wine with soot particles or...?
My favourite place is Italy.

Yes he did! The entire Roseto town lives in the area :) is your family from Roseto? Good luck with the wine too btw!
Yes we are. i went to Roseto a couple years back and lots of people from Etobicoke moved back after retiring. We knew your grandfather was a Paesan!
