      A red flag program-wise for architecture schools is if Revit is not part of the curriculum.

      A red flag that I often come across, is our professors comparing how worse of studio culture they faced and yet they dealt with it and here we (the youngsters) have so many facilities, services and technology compared to their decade of student life, and yet we don't meet the satisfaction of deliverables for juries🙆🤦
      I mean, if they had toxic studio, it doesn't mean we need to face the same, instead they have the opportunity to change the phase of what studio culture can be and set an example of how amazing everything can be just by prioritising mental health, and encouragement to be involved in activities other than just architecture and that it's ok to take breaks

    Nothing worse than pouring your entire life into a studio project just to have a reviewer say “I’m not convinced.” With no further feedback.

    You just validated so many things for me lol!! So far I haven’t really encountered too much of these , but I guess another red flag would be just to be aware of peers who might blow things out of proportion with what the professors say. I know it’s easy to get influenced by our peers thoughts but I think it’s important to form our own opinions on our studio professors and whether or not how they’re teaching is working for us individually!

    I felt this. I graduated a few months ago and I can assure that my mental health is definitely not the same I entered arch school with. It got worse! Lol. It’s the environment, constant competition, bad professors, long work hours, not so constructive criticism at juries. It was INTENSE! I survived… but with so much anxiety. Lol. And now pulling an all nighter is so easy like sipping tea ….

    Omg this is such an important topic, the toxic studio culture is so real , and often the professor's make the students feel worse at so many levels.
    I'm so glad you adressed it, and I hope the students / recent graduates are aware that it's not ok, at the same time the professionals/professors have a change in mindset.

    Definitely something that I've struggled with, starting out architecture school was like being beaten up every week, with everyday being a deadline for an assignment. Thanks for the video nat. It's people like you that let us know we're not alone in this journey.

    The trust your peers thing is so true. I was in my AED class and this guy I knew asked to borrow my flash drive bc he forgot his and long story short the guy copied my work turned it in so I had to redo it along with literally everything bc he wiped my flash drive and I had to do everything over again within like I think it was a week or 2 and the dude didn't even get punished for it and to this day I still never let anyone use it

    • @safala

      I’m not going to make at least two copies of EVERYTHING I do from now on. I don’t think any of my peers are like this but you can never be too safe and having backups is great either way.

    omg toxic studio envoirnement is so discouraging like I am an undergrad and my rooma is undergrad but 1 year senior and we both are hardly in our rooms especially near our jurys we both are pulling consecutive all nighters only to get C grade and our instructors making faces at our work. like I feel like all the stuff they said that we don't need any prior art skills and design skills is such bullshit.

    I’m thinking of architecture but everyone keeps saying it’s going to be very hard and that there will be no fun “college life”- like you won’t even have time to go out or that they are sleep deprived and have a lot of anxiety because of the work load. the pros are only after you complete everything not when you are studying? So should I choose it or not

    10 minutes? My panel roasted me for 45 minutes and spent another 20 minutes talking among themselves that students don't suffer like they used to anymore also while dissing me. And this happened multiple of times with me and other students. Public university in our country don't require you to pay much but the environment is...I'd rather not talk about it -.-

      @safala 2 года назад +2

      If you don’t mind, can I ask which country you’re from? I’m studying in a public university too and thankfully our teachers till now are generally awesome but it still makes me anxious.

    I'm currently in high school and thinking of majoring in architecture at university and I wanted to know if being an architect involves a lot of math and physics, mainly because I don't like math 😅. I'm also interested in interior design, so is it possible to become an architect and specialise in interiors? Hope you see this.

      I don’t know if it’s the same everywhere but there’s not a lot of physics and maths in the university I’m studying in. The focus is mostly on drawing (design, sketching, drafting, studio, etc.) though it might depend on the country/ university.

      @Ade Sanni I went through the same thing being interest in architecture but more in interior design. I found that some universities that have an architecture program don't have an interior design program but may have Interior architecture which you can look more into depending on the university you apply to. I chose to find a university that actually had the interior design degree and not have to wait until you graduated as an architect to specialize on interiors.
