Phil has always been open to pop culture (or more specifically not closed off to any culture, pop or not) and I think more "serious indie artists" should be that way. Phil, Genevieve and Adrian Orange (of Thanksgiving) stayed the night at my house after a show in Phoenix, AZ in 2005 and after looking at our mountain of "hip/artsy" DVDs and VHS tapes picked Mean Girls to watch (being one of the only titles that our non-hipster roommate had provided to the collection) and said it was one of his favorite movies.
