their company is wasting their talent like crazy. the last thing they need it is scandals. such a cute song but their label shit the bed.
Sorry, but can u say about the situation going on here
Actually I don't know about this
@@-goody-8053 the problem here is that, the hawaiians are actually listening to this song and well, they don't like it. Cause apparently, aloha oe is like the queen's song? or something...yeah. they said that "the mourning of someone's death is not a cute concept" and I'm guessing they're talking about the queen's death. She made a song related to romance because she saw two lovebirds on some other day. So the title that the queen decided was "Aloha Oe". So apparently, they started bashing, criticizing and posting hate comments everyday. See the dislikes? 12k ;-; but in other interview, Haeyoon said that it's about them calling out for summer to come back and adding some romance vibes. So I'm guessing the concept is about the story behind the Aloha Oe romance that the queen wrote. And they said "Aloha is a cultural way of saying hello in hawaii". I have a theory, they probably made this song to liven up the mood instead of mourning for someone's death. They liven up and added upbeat music to cheer up the hawaiians instead of having sad thoughts of the queen's death. But hawaiians don't see it from the bright side so there's nothing we could do ㅠㅠ sorry if this is too long
@@-goody-8053 it’s actually a song composed by our last reigning monarch, Queen Lili’uokalani, who was under house arrest by the U.S. government! She wrote the song “Aloha ‘Oe” for her people as a way to lament the loss of the country to an illegal overthrow by the U.S. ... the song has become a symbol of the painful part of Hawai’i’s history! By using the melody of the song in their chorus and butchering the words and using the title, is disappointing and upsetting when the song they appropriated from is a symbolism of one of the most saddest events in our history!
@@zainudiin you can’t blame us for thinking bad of it when we are literally taught IN SCHOOL these native songs. Therefore they mean something to us and they sampled the original “Aloha Oe” song and couldn’t even bother working on pronunciation to actually say “Oe”. This was the last song the queen wrote to her people while she was imprisoned and so we sing it at the end of gatherings and stuff. If you moved to Hawaii and went to school you would 100% learn Hawaiian songs
Not to mention the tipi at 0:18
I've never heard of the Aloha Oe song before this controversy, but after looking up the history behind it i'm still shocked at how America managed to get away with illegally (?) overthrowing a whole kingdom (and from what I read, American gov waited a whole 100 yrs later to apologize?). American government really is messed up, and I'm an American.
Bruh u thought that was bad wait till you hear about the British Empire
I'm not Hawaiian so I can't say myself if it's CA or not, but from what I read the original song wasn't written w/ the intention to be a goodbye to her people, but (from what I've heard Hawaiians say) the song is heavily associated w/ the overthrow of the Hawaiian kingdom.
Actually bro, the song was a goodbye to her people and to the islands itself. listen to the words “until we meet again” “a fond embrace” there’s more to em, but listen to em brah. And if you no understand, google translate em.
@@localbrada2368 i thought that queen Lili wrote this after she saw 2 lovers saying goodbye to each other on O'ahu island tho ?
Armandii Cyclamen actually bro, the story behind the writing of aloha oe has some variations. But the song was dedicated to her people as she was locked away.
The fact that they sampled the original shows that someone on the production end actually knew about the song and its meaning and still decided to go through with this comeback. That just doesn't sit right with me...
Love the girls, but seriously FNC you have some people to fire.
It’s FNC so I’m not surprised

From: a Lullet
@itzlena me this song was written by the last queen of Hawaii as a farewell to her ppl. And they turned it into a summer concept. Srry if it's inaccurate...I don't know a lot abt this-
@itzlena me Essentially, the original song was made by the queen of Hawaii as a farewell because America took over the kingdom. It is a very sad song as a result, so the fact that this is sample is very disrespectful to native Hawaiians. Obviously don’t blame the girls, blame the producers and company.

They dont even need to use "Aloha ‘Oe" as title or lyrics. They dont even need to sample the song too. Very offensive.
They could have just made the lyrics "Hello Hello Hey! Oh yay!" and didnt include the sample.
FNC, you are one of the stupidest company right now, from having really bad managing and responding towards AOA, now you sabotage Cherrybullet with a very offensive song towards native Hawaiian.
So???
Code S#@D0W because it’s cultural appropriation of a very important song in native Hawaiian history. Aloha ‘oe was written as a farewell song by the last Hawaiian monarch Queen Liliuokalani during her imprisonment before being illegally overthrown by the US. It’s a beautiful bittersweet song with a lot of meaning and to be reduced to a poppy summer melody and a few words is disrespectful. It’s not just any Hawaiian song, and they could’ve at least changed the title!
I wouldn't fault the idols for this, but the company and those producing the song.

@@absolutevalueofsm958 me too
As a native Hawaiian and Korean, I find this song pretty offensive. “Aloha ʻOe” was written by our last Queen of Hawaiʻi as a farewell to her people because the United States forcibly annexed Hawaiʻi into the country. Our language, hula, and cultural practices were banned. Our homes have been turned into vacation resorts to rich American and Asian tourists. Native Hawaiians don’t have access to our homelands, and we make up majority of the homeless population. So many of our natives end up having to move to the American continent because it’s so expensive here, and again, due to colonization and the near erasure of our culture.
I understand people think our home and language is beautiful, but this wasn’t executed properly. This feels like another song that romanticizes the “island dream”, while ignoring the history and current issues of our people.
WE NEED TO ACTUALLY TALK ABOUT THIS!!!!
Thank you sis
this needs to be a top comment! we need to hold the entertainment company responsible for not doing enough research
Yes, thank you for this!
So true!! People keep defending this and saying that it’s “just a song” and it’s so infuriating! Cultural appropriation isn’t something that should just be pushed to the side and ignored!
Bora and May's styling are so refreshing and fit themselves a lot. For Jiwon, I think she is very beautiful, but it seems there's still a lot of potential in her natural beauty to be discovered, with styling or makeup (or camera movement?). I somehow feel she is a little bit more attractive with her daily outfit, or when she is live broadcasting with fans. I like her makeup and outfit in Mafia stage in GP999, too.
Ps: I think Heo Jiwon and May's visual are at actress level, especially Heo Jiwoon. Just found out that she has participated in many MVs shooting. No wonder.
Guys, PLEASE don't attack the girls, they have no control over their concept/lyrics, if there's anyone you should blame for being culturally insensitive it's FNC, please don't be rude to the members.
@Snow Snow I'm aware, but that doesn't make an exception in the fact that the girls aren't at fault for it, the ones to blame are the producers for sampling the song thoughtlessly. Read comments in full and understand them before replying.

Yes, but most dislikes are due the ads (look at N.flying, SF9 and Cherry bullet's recent MVs)
So Americans are coming after Koreans on high horses for not knowing about the wrong things they did to Hawaii? 🤯
Constantine Krakowsky uhhh yeah look up the history of the original song title and see it in the perspective of a Hawaiian NOT Americans
Kimberly Why put the hard burden of learning about American and Hawaiian history on some teen Kpop group?
If you guys had put the same burden on American cultural content, Koreans would not have known Aloha Oe to begin with. Look what’s wrong in America first before looking for easy targets abroad
Constantine Krakowsky First of all, this is not about what’s happening in America. Second of all, I am not targeting these idols, I am targeting to the song writer. How would you feel if someone disrespects a valuable, sacred song that means a lot to that specific culture. I myself is from Hawaii, I’m not Hawaiian but I know the background of this song. This farewell song was the only thing that many Hawaiians have kept in their hearts before Hawaii was colonized by the whites. So before you “tackle” on me, put yourself into someone else’s shoes because this is just disrespectful. Educate yourself

I don't think there's anything wrong with turning Arirang into a pop song
@@CK-kd5pn Arirang is a song that conveys sadness in Korean history, however it is also a happy song as well. If someone used a version of arirang that conveys sadness into a jolly pop song it would cause some controversy. I think that would be comparable to aloha oe.
@@intreoo The implications of turning Arirang into a pop song differs from doing the same with Aloha Oe. Arirang has a legend that should not be a concern for controversy since it's akin to a fairy tale. As for when it was used as a resistance anthem, it was sung to fight against the Japanese and it's a patriotic song. From what I understand, Aloha Oe is a song with a sad history (not a fairy tale) and used in funerals as well. I don't think it's anything really disrespectful to sample Arirang and make it into a pop song when the song itself has been reinterpreted so many times already.
@@CK-kd5pn Thank you for your point. I wrote my comment when I was less aware of history. While Arirsng does have sad implications, it can't compare with the history of Hawai'i. I have no hate towards the girls. I love them and their songs. However, this one just does not seat right with me as a Hawaiian. I know it’s not the girls fault and it’s the production teams that are responsible for not researching on their own. People need to be educated before they use concepts such as “Aloha ‘Oe”. Aloha ‘Oe was a precious song that the our last remaining queen, Lili’uokalani made for her people during her imprisonment in her own house. This song brings sadness and goodbyes when she knew she will no longer have power to protect her people, and yet they turned it into a summer song filled with happiness and imitating Hula dances that are supposed to express stories. I suggest researching before taking concepts like this into action. A perfect twitter account explains this, @daeguud. Thank you.
@Leon Kim again. If you read what I said I’m not spreading hate. I know it’s not the girls fault, they follow the company. I’m holding the company accountable and not the girls. I love the girls and their songs. In case you haven’t really read what I said, I mentioned to research concepts like this. Also, “Aloha ‘Oe” is not just a word, they literally used the same way Lili’uokalani wrote her song in a different beat. Also, it is a controversy because this song holds sentimental values for the Hawaiian people and the anarchy when it was illegally overthrown by the US government. It’s like changing a Korean or Chinese traditional song into a modern tone. Wouldn’t that be disrespectful because it’s not the original intent? Again not spreading hate. I’m just trying to educate people on certain cultures.

You can support the group and these girls but this song is genuinely so hurtful for Hawaiian people. It's offensive and extremely disrespectful and I don't like how many people will turn a blind eye to literal cultural appropriation because the song sounds nice. These girls have potential but they, and their company need to be educated about how their actions can affect people. Whether or not the girls have a say in their song doesn't matter they still DID the song they still are the ones hurting people. If you are really their fans you would want your faves to be kind and educated people who don't cause harm to other people's culture.
So true!! And people keep defending them. It’s extremely disappointing to see how many people defend or don’t care for cultural appropriation.
you can love a song and acknowledge it's problematic, both things are possible lol
Just because you find something offensive or problematic not everyone has to do the same, move on.
You guys may not understand the actual meaning of the original song Aloha Oe, but it means SO much to us native Hawaiians. We were striped of our land and language by the U.S. aloha oe was the last song our queen made before we got illegally overthrown. How could we not feel some type of way about this?
Ariel Longoria it is sad to see how people will stay ignorant and turn a blind eye. it shows how much this world is starting to lack empathy. i feel so sorry to Hawaiians. i understand after the AOA scandal FNC is probably losing a lot of money right now, but that doesn’t give them an excuse to turn a blind eye and value profits over what is morally correct. if anything, they should be extra cautious to not make any mistakes after how severe the AOA scandal was. this is all truly saddening.
I came here because I watched ISAC 2019/2020. I think Cherry Bullet is a unique group name. Coincidentally, on January 20, 2021, they released their latest music video, i'm watch all Cherry Bullet MV and I became their fan (L.U.L.L.E.T).
is it just me but when I always hear our queens songs, I always and suddenly recognize them as CHERRY BULLET. they always have such a unique and pretty identity and I a.m so proud of my queens!!! STAN TALENT , STAN QUEENS, STAN CHERRY BULLET!!

Sad that CheBul has officially disbanded now, Lullets knew it was going to happen eventually as FNC never really fully supported and promoted these talented girls.
CheBul was the very first k-pop group I was fully immersed into and stanned, love this group, you will always be my #1 favorite group of all time. I sincerely wish Haeyoon, Yuju, Bora, Jiwon, Remi, Chaerin, and May success in all their future endeavors. And a special shout out to Cocoro as well for debuting again in ME:I. Cherry Bullet was an amazing group of extremely talented girls, you will be dearly missed.❤🍒😥

I think FNC knew what they were doing when they released this song. They knew the controversy it would create and would bring fame to the group. Regardless, it's disgusting how close minded and selfish when the Aloha Oe song is a song of mourning. It's not the girls fault but the company.
ㅇㅇ
İ dont mind wiews and subscriptions anymore cause these girls are not that popular but they have the best vocals in k pop community. lulets, just vote them and spread them as much as you can! Ppl should stop sleeping on this girls
OMG THE BEST SUMMER RELEASE! WOW I AM SO OBSESSED WITH THIS. STAN TALENT STAN CHERRY BULLET!
The chorus is so freaking good, usually the chorus in kpop songs now has a weird transition and have too much noise on it but this is so nice, remembers me old kpop, so cute
it's not even their song
Lullet need another Cherry Bullet summer comeback pls pls pls!!!!
new fan after binging on Love So Sweet. I like this song, I don't get the controversy, but let's not blame the girls if there is one; blame the songwriter on the title. Fun, sweet, summer song, and I love Hawaii and the people who live there
I'm also from Hawaii, born and raised...and kanaka maoli😉. Probably just me, but I don't find this song that offensive. They used a small measure of the melody. And they using the title as a tag line. I mean I get it. Its summer time, you think of beaches, then you think hawaii, and then the most famous melody from hawaii... "aloha oe' which most people don't know the words to.
But I have to say though. The one thing that is bothering me about this song is how they pronounced the first "A" in "Aloha". Hawaiian and Korean language pronounce their vowels pretty much the same way. So why are they pronouncing the "A" like they are trying to spell "Aloha" in english???
@@joshuadykes3141 i think people is mad with FNC not Cherry Bullet so don't worry :)

why would you make a fun dance song out of a country's mourning song...?
Because whoever wrote, produced, and gave this the green light only cares about money lmfao
are you blaming fnc or the girls
What is mourning song?
Anonyymi a song about someone mourning/ being sad.
Anonyymi The song sampled “aloha oe” was written by the queen of Hawaii before the complete illegal overthrow of their nation, and is now used as a song played at the end of funerals. Their language and culture was also made illegal once taken over by the USA, so having a connection to the time before they had to endure such atrocities even through a song is something that everyone needs to respect
I Saw them on Zepeto, didnt know It was a group, I'm happy that I found It.

Hey everyone! If you don’t like to sing this song due to the culture appropriation, you can always say “Aloha oh yeah” instead of “Aloha ‘Oe” it sounds the same and not disrespecting the culture.

There is a VERY big difference between the use of Aloha Oe in the Train to Busan or lilo n stitch. FNC not only took the song name but also the melody and used it completely out of context to its original meaning/purpose which isn't acceptable.
Exactly it's about the blatant rip off and change of context that makes it unacceptable. They could've easily made the same vibe in another way.
