VP Al Gore worked very hard to help our nation become stronger in the 1990s under President Clinton. He would have made a great US President. But history followed a different arc and we had "W" for 8 years. I like VP Al Gore. VP Joe Biden is working very hard as well to help our nation and I hope he is just as successful as Gore was.
Great speech by the man who the people said they wanted to be their 43rd prez. Although his claim about this being a close election was false. After nearly 8 years of george w bush and the state of America as of the day this speech was given, this election was not going to be close. I know that Gore had to say that though to lead into his statement about " I know about close elections."
how embarrassing that we missed the opportunity to have such an inspiring intelligent man as our president... fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. don't let it happen again
I was mad he didn't run in 2004. The Democrats should have approached him and handed him the nomination without a primary battle. But he's over it and we're almost done with Bush/Cheney.
One of the best things that you, as an individual can do, is to believe that we really have a problem and that we have the ways and means to fix that problem. When enough people clamor for change, the politicians will listen, and change will happen. Some people become activists, some don't. But we all have the opportunity to vote. And we can all help spread the word. This needs to be the number one priority! climate change is where we need to put the majority of our resources.
i've never seen a more perfect speaker! simply amazing and intellectually inspiring. i truly hope that al gore will become american president some day in the future!
Let's see if I understand this: All "real" scientists believe in anthropogenic global warming. If you don;t believe in anthropogenic global warming you're not a "real" scientist. Therefore, all "real" scientists believe in anthropogenic global warming. Q.E.D'OH!
From what I've seen of Al Gore, he's become more intelligent and got liberated from the game of politics when he lost the election, and came out as a better man. If I could have it my way, I'd have someone like Ralph Nader or Dennis Kucinich for President, America's elections are a 2 party dictatorship and democrats/republicans generally have the same policies (just as the whigs / democrats in 19th century both favored slavery, until the 3rd party republicans came in who are nothin like today)
I still find it hard to believe that we voted in Bush over Al Gore. Either we're the most ignorant nation that ever lived or our political system is broken.
In addition, without the atmosphere itself, the Earth's avg surface temperature would actually be about 50 degrees (F) lower than what it is currently.
A consumption tax that would compensate for every other form of tax, I'm not sure would work well in practice. I'm not an economist, so I cannot say that with a certainty, but it would be difficult to predict what kind of highly unusual and not-so-favorable business practices it would result in.
and the snow melted making the worst flooding in 15 years. We don't need a reason to not pollute the olny air we breath. The only water we drink or the only ground we walk on.
still waiting for a reply to my last post. I want the exact temperature of earth, or at least tell me if we are too hot or too cold. also, I want you to tell me gore's plan for changing our orbit so that we don't circle a gigantic ball of fire.
I'll clarify: I was speaking half out of jest when I suggested an IQ test for voting eligibility. This is also not to say that a generally intelligent person will necessarily desire what's best for this country. But it has to be taken into account that many are lulled into voting for one side or another based purely on which side uses more or better buzz words, and not based on the slightest bit of analysis of what they will in fact do for (or to) this country.
I didn't want the war, nor did I want to pass the global poverty act. I don't want to give a dime to anyone else until we get our shit in order in this country.
...Countdown confirmed with the local utility officials that their program, called the Green Power Switch, actually costs more for the Gores -- four dollars for every 150 kilowatt hours. Meaning, by our calculations, our math here, that the Gores actually chose to increase their electric bill by $5,893, more than 50 percent, in order to minimize carbon pollution."
In a differential equations class I took last semester, we analyzed the carbon cycle-specifically the cycle of CO2 in the atmosphere. The mathematics doesn't lie. Even if the temps (avg.) have gone down recently, the lasting effects of of CO2 accumulation remain for decades. The oceans are great CO2/carbon sinks, but it takes many many years for this to occur. Is it possible to reach saturation, maybe or maybe not. All I know is that 6+ billion people and their activities is too much.
You don't understand the concept of burden of proof "honey". AlGore is the one making the outrageous claims in his fictional movie. It's not up to me to "prove him wrong", it's up to him to prove himself right. He hasn't
Your post that I responded to specified nothing about in what scope should there not be a democratic voting system. Our over-spending is the result of a terrible government, not the democratic legislative system. Taking into account certain things this government spends copious amounts of money on, it makes me want to vomit knowing I'm contributing in the form of taxes. However, taxation is still vital to every component of this country's infrastructure.
I seriously doubt he'll run in 2012. He's moved beyond politics. My best hope is that he has a long and fruitful life which is what he deserves after what happened to him. Obama 08
yeah, but someone who only pays a capital gains tax, which is 15%, will have to pay more. I am all for the fair tax. a consumption tax. don't consume as much, don't pay as much.
The deficit ITSELF is the result of government overspending. Consumerist citizens of the U.S, themselves, overspend and waste tremendously. However, this is independent of the international debt created by the government's overspending. For instance, I don't think it was most people's choice to enter into a multi-hundred-billion-dollar war based on mostly false pretenses.
im sure he is emotionally and physically suffering like any other addict would be.... It is the addict's fault they are an addict...its the addict's problem who must want recovery. Parents, friends, and others have absolutely NO CONTROL over an addict's disease.
(2) -- IN PARTICULAR his LONE recognition back in the 1970's -- 25 LONG YEARS before you would eventually come along to learn of this very medium we both use here and now to publish our thoughts viewable all over the world -- that when U.S. scientists and military researchers sought desperately in the 70's for funding from Congress to enable the building of this something called DARPANET, the "version 1.0" of the Internet, HE alone in the whole Congress of the United States of America "GOT IT"
Without any sort of regulation though, many people wouldn't just donate money to their community or nation, so there has to be a legal incentive. I'm not 100% sure what to think of flat vs graduated taxes. Ultimately, if you take 20% of a person's $300-per-week check, that will affect them far more profoundly than would taking 20% of a $6,000-per-week check. Graduated taxes aren't entirely fair, but they are still reasonable.
No... user1309, I may not agree with you, but respect a well thought out position over name calling any day. Intelligent debate and open mindedness is the only way to make informed accurate decisions. Otherwise there is emotional, irrational name calling. That would make us no better than Bill o'Reilly or Rush Limbaugh. Your analysis of Bush is right on. Gore.. not so sure, but can see where you could think that. I just think he is more sincere. Don't think he needed the money w/ICTruth
I totally disagree. the deficit is the result of a terrible government. overspending is the result of terrible citizens. if we the people didn't ask and demand so much, they wouldn't have to spend so much. the ONLY good thing I see in john mccain, is that he seems to dislike earmarks. I never said no taxes, I just think there is a better and easier way of collecting them.
Your response that a great scientist explores all possibilities and not a political agenda. My point was that the science is in. It is conclusive, its not about politics. I apologize if I misunderstood you. But I'll take Gore for the past 8 yrs over Bush any day! Its Bush/Cheney energy policies, ties to the oil industry I don't like. Gore is sincere, and he has science on his side. our dependance on foreigh oil is the result of politicians giving in to lobbyist at the expense of all of us
Also, relying simply on people's good will for something like funding the government, or community services, has not worked well in the past. Perhaps you and a few others you know would still pay your taxes on principal, but you can bet a huge chunk of the population wouldn't.
@tomuch619; Not all of them are not bad. No one is perfect, but as long as Americans not stop buying Japanese, Chinese and Koreans products, you cannot expect significant change in politics. Nope.
Again, putting words in my mouth. I said nothing even close to that people should have "no rights" (even though instating one of those types of governments would certainly strip them away from people). Certain types of government besides a fully capitalist one may be more effective during certain times. However, all I was asking that person was what they believed was more fair than electing leaders of varying influence (whether president, governor, senator, etc) by a vote.
@RandyOnlineGaming : in the book of Daniel 12:1 we're talking about Al Gore,we're about to make Obama quit on his dream for re-election,Al and Hillary are taking over soon...Melchizedek The Holy Ghost.
It's about carbon pollution, it has nothing to do with consumption of electricity. Lowering carbon emissions is more important than electrical consumption Quit being bitter and judgmental and go educate yourself.
I love his entrance music, lol
YES YES YES! Gore just hit the nail on the head. Awesome awesome speech.
Al Gore would make a great president that I would deffinitly vote for.
"Those policies???- all over again?- hey- i'm all for recycling but THAT is ridiculous!"
hahahah!
that made me laugh too. 11 years after you!
Well said. Glad Biden is our President now and Gore would make a great President.
Great adress. Al gore should have been democratic nominee. In 2008
Great speech by the man who the people said they wanted to be their 43rd prez. Although his claim about this being a close election was false. After nearly 8 years of george w bush and the state of America as of the day this speech was given, this election was not going to be close. I know that Gore had to say that though to lead into his statement about " I know about close elections."
Al Gore is an underrated politician!
BUT, he has enlightened the world to the green movement like no one else has, even when it wasn't fashionable.
how embarrassing that we missed the opportunity to have such an inspiring intelligent man as our president...
fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
don't let it happen again
I was mad he didn't run in 2004. The Democrats should have approached him and handed him the nomination without a primary battle. But he's over it and we're almost done with Bush/Cheney.
This man could've been President. We really screwed up as a nation in 2000 and 2004.
Especially in 2004
This was the best speech of the convention!
One if the Greatest Vice Presidents to ever do it! Look how he moves the crowd as a Former Vice President🙌
One of the best things that you, as an individual can do, is to believe that we really have a problem and that we have the ways and means to fix that problem. Amazingly communicated!~
Way to address "truth" and the realities behind the hegemonic powers in place.
i've never seen a more perfect speaker! simply amazing and intellectually inspiring. i truly hope that al gore will become american president some day in the future!
11 years on...he's not.
Al Gore is a GREAT AMERICAN AND A GREAT STATESMAN!!!!
Great speech, Vice President, Al Gore!
al gore is SUPER SERIAL
Let's see if I understand this:
All "real" scientists believe in anthropogenic global warming.
If you don;t believe in anthropogenic global warming you're not a "real" scientist.
Therefore, all "real" scientists believe in anthropogenic global warming.
Q.E.D'OH!
Awesome speech. I get a bit nauseous thinking how better off the world in general would be if Gore took office in 2000.
Outstanding speech ! Al Gore is a wonderful asset to humankind. Will his message be taken seriously too late ?
This guy is a rare thing.....a true statesman! Maybe the most important American since JFK!
Why do you think Wisconsin had one of the coldest, longest, snowiest winters on record then?
This time, he is Super, DUPER Serial!
we agree wholeheartedly on one thing. the government spending money wisely is not very likely.
Oh wow a well spoken, respectable and intelligent political figure. Must have been nice.
From what I've seen of Al Gore, he's become more intelligent and got liberated from the game of politics when he lost the election, and came out as a better man.

Either we're the most ignorant nation that ever lived or our political system is broken.
The Supreme Court did, the people voted for Gore
Good speech Al! Thank you and please, please continue your efforts to rally the nation about climate change. Go Obama!
I love the opening about people being wrong that the 2000 election winner didn’t matter.
Hey i believe in recycling but thats ridiculous! Classic! Al Gore is the man.
In addition, without the atmosphere itself, the Earth's avg surface temperature would actually be about 50 degrees (F) lower than what it is currently.

okay, we'll all stay home.
go Al! Excellent speech. its time to stop denying the climate crisis and ACT!
Obama 08
still waiting for a reply to my last post. I want the exact temperature of earth, or at least tell me if we are too hot or too cold. also, I want you to tell me gore's plan for changing our orbit so that we don't circle a gigantic ball of fire.
what if al gore were president... man! a better usa
Great speech!
Awesome Speech!
God Bless!
Al Gore is the suck, his private jet uses more fuel in one trip than I use all year.

it would suck to be the people behind the stage
EXCELCIOR!!
I believe it is.

Agreed. 3rd parties need more of a chance but will probably not get it, unfortunately :(

Awesome Speech! I hope Obama is as motivated about the Climate Crisis as Al. I was moved by Obama's speech but did not hear much about this issue!
He didn't deliver this speech right, but if you read it, it's actually very very good.

He is one heck of an unexciting speaker. I like him but seriously you can see why he didn't win.
Did he fly in on his personal jet! Did anyone from CNN ask him about this?

Actually miss announcer lady is FORMER vice president
It was yo' mamma
I believe in recycling but that's ridiculous 🤣🤣🤣

Too bad he wasn't elected. He would have made a great President.
should be president al gore
Actually, they didn't. Gore won the popular vote.

New England set a record of the coolest summer ever recorded. Global warming is a bitch, I tell ya!
not good will. I would go along with the fair tax, or a flat tax. it's simple, it's easy, and it's fair. the IRS is a freaking joke.
go obama go
this guy should have been in the white house in 2000 :/
@hermitcrab a President Gore would probably mean a republican in the WH right now. Obama owes his good fortune entirely to Bush

0:00-1:30 I'm Canadian and what is this?
what about manbearpig? Gore knows this threat must be taken care of. He is super serial.
Also, relying simply on people's good will for something like funding the government, or community services, has not worked well in the past. Perhaps you and a few others you know would still pay your taxes on principal, but you can bet a huge chunk of the population wouldn't.
he probably got to the summit in his private jet and got chauffeured by a convoy of suv's to the location.
haha love south park
Environmental hysteria. Like a shortage of oil - how come there was no shortage 8 years ago?
we MUST stop manbearpig!!!
free trade is almost always good for the majority
Brilliant speech. It's a shame the RNC response was hurricaned-out. Then again, nature's "payback" speaks for itself, sadly.
Did he ever find man-bear-pig?
@tomuch619; Not all of them are not bad. No one is perfect, but as long as Americans not stop buying Japanese, Chinese and Koreans products, you cannot expect significant change in politics. Nope.
Why would anyone care what this guy says. He doesn't practice what he preaches. He apparently wants the peasants to save energy, but not him.
