I bought this album and John Hammond's 'So Many Roads' in the spring of '66. Best acoustic Blues compilation on the planet!!! Mine has the crap beat out of it, but that's the homage it deserves. Thanks for the post!
This album, from childhood to old age, has had more influence and effect upon me than any other except perhaps the recordings of Thelonious Monk. The first tune, Fixin' To Die, I've thought of a hundred times in the last few years, the nearer I get. So glad it's up on the net so I can hear it again. God bless.
I've had this since if first came out in the 1960's and had a profound effect on me. Probably sent into a life time of blues appreciation. And it's starts with Dave Ray's "Fixin' To Die" - Wow.
The Blues will always lift you up and never let you down.
Been looking for this for 50 years...left such an impression .
Me too. Finally found it 2010
this was my beginning into deeper music even tho current music was turning the world upside down, heard this in a local music shop that had, can you believe it listening booths with head phones!!!! OMG I miss the past like a long lost son
This album is a real classic. Really hard to find these days and glad it's here.
My favourite LP
I bought this in Aldershot in 1964 it was a week and a half's apprentice wages, it's a mono version and I'm so pleased that I still have it.
Man
kaddle hopper Hello. I had this album one time and remember selling it.I got into blues as a teen and was learning guitar and blues harp. I am 65 now. Where did the time go. The late 60's were a great time for me. I lived in Campbell, 50 miles south of Haight-Ashbury.
I play it at least once a week.
If you email me I can send you the tracks
I would love to have the tracks. I had them all on cassette but misplaced it somewhere along the line.
I bought it when I was mid teens. Somebody stole it '67. Around 2010 I was able to download it off the internet. COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!!! I still play it today. We lost Tony Glover this week.
The vinyl was made of funny stiff stuff. I wore out two copies, and Tony Cooke was leant my last copy. This album wrote my life. I loved it. Still do!!
Still have my LP of this, bought about a week after it came out. What a great album!
me too
Cool video. Nice work digging up appropriate photos for each artist. One of the great unsung albums of that (or any other)decade.
Back in the early 60's Electra was giving these young blues and folk bands a change to jam and do their stuff...bravo for this ...been trying to seek out this lp for 15 yrs...
Poor Danny Kalb died last week. What an unhappy life. Rip Danny.
Thanks for this! You've provided a much needed service by posting this.
What Mr. Ruiz del Vizo said. Also thank you for these great photos!!
This is one of my most treasured albums. I've had it since its release in the 60s. But one song was damaged and that is Blow Whistle Blow so I thank you for uploading this. Now I can add it to the CD copy I made of my vinyl record.
Thanks for posting. This was my first real taste of blues, years ago...
Don't Miss Geoff Muldaur doin: "Devil Got My Woman" at 25:54
What s lone up from back in the day. Yes, an almost impossible to find vinyl or cd we are lucky to have you tube snd generous up loaders!
. Thanks, this is such a good old album. I like the photos going with the songs too, nice touch.
Dave Ray was all of 20 or 21 when he sang "Leavin" Here Blues." Wow.
Dave Ray's "Leavin' Here Blues " is the best thing - I think - he did.
That's saying a lot. Have you heard his version of Fannin Street or Titanic? Check out the KRG Blues, Rags and Hollers parts 1 and 2 on Electra. Also Dave did "Fine Soft Land" LP. He was my favorite from this era.
@@1blastman Well, on a personal level, I'm not really moved by "bouncy" type songs, like "Fannin Street", I am drawn to the intense delta blues style. Having said that, I do like some of Spider John's bouncy material.
If I remember correctly (and I still have this LP), the name Bob Landy listed among other musicians, such as John Sebastian, is actually an anagram for Bob Dylan.
not listed here?
A check of the album jacket shows: "assisting musicians are Tony Glover, Fritz Richmond, John B. Sebastian, Doug Pomeroy, and Bob Landy". An internet search in Tag Archives showed this: "Among the pseudonyms Dylan has used when appearing on others’ records have been Blind Boy Grunt, Tedham Porterhouse, Robert Milkwood Thomas, Roosevelt Gook and Bob Landy."
@@terryh5526 Dylan played with many of the New York blues singers - Ric Von Schmidt, and Dave VanRonk. Also being from Minnesota, he probably came across Koerner, Ray and Glover.
Legend has it that Glover taught Mick Jagger and Bob Dylan how to play the mouth harp.
He played piano for Geoff Muldaur "Downtown Blues".
I grew up listening to this album! My parents were all in to this awesome music and I still do
Better for me to listen here than on my stereo--- the record is getting worn. Thanks for this.
Reading the comments has convinced me that this album is magical. I'm just now writing up the story of me and this album.
Just learned reading "The Dylan Tapes" in an interview with Eric Von Schmidt (p. 268) that Dylan played piano on "Downtown Blues."
Wow beautiful...a piece of history!
I believe that Mark Spoelstra was in Greenwich Village when Bob Dylan arrived. I sure am crazy about his fingerpicking arrangement on France blues.
This is some of the best shit on vinyl
One of my all-time favorite albums. Los mine 30 years ago, searched everywhere for years and finally a cousin of mine found one, and then a couple of years later I found another, but they're both beat to hell. Sure wish someone would re-release this from the original master tapes!
Steve Hashimoto They have ..Amazon...
I can email you the tracks x

Mine's mono, but still in good shape.
I still have this album too, was always thinking I should post it..!
My fav. LP
Someone took mine about 1966, found a download. Love it!
the best
"Bad Dream Blues" sounds like the same music as "Buckets of Rain. "
Gotta Like It Bro Thx
Thank you so much for this! 🙏✨
I heard this album at 18 years old. It was my introduction to blues and opened the door. Thank you for posting. Where can I buy it?
I can send you the tracks

@@lynettekomidar hi. I'm listening to The Blues Project.. Probably one of the best albums ever made. I've found it before but if you know how I can burn it or buy it would be great. I'm always afraid it will disappear.
what a pleasure to hear where a lot of rock truly came from
Shaun Kelly-Kenyon definitely, rock was born from this blue tune
JIMBLUEROCK CHANNEL IS THE BEST!
Yall know that Bob Dylan played piano on this album under the name Bob Landy? Downtown Blues.
John Sebastian's absolutely best harmonica playing on record
What songs does Sebastian play? Tony Glover plays with Korner and Dave Ray.
Ray's performances are stunning.
1blastman sounds like him with von schmidt

Lynette, Thanks for the link!
I can actually Dropbox or email you the tracks if you like
After 50 years I finally got my stereo equipment working again and played this awesome record that I listened to constantly in the '60s and '70s. The album says, "See inside booklet for notes on the artists and songs" but I don't have the booklet and I'm not sure I ever did. I'd love to see it if anybody has one. Thank you for posting this great music!
There was a download on the 'net
Just the best..shame not on spotify but have found all the artists on spotify...making a new album
Why are you even on Spotify?
Where did you find the great photo of a young Dave Ray at the end? I used to see him in Minneapolis back in the day, and this looks like a local location; do you know where it was taken?
Does any one understand the words to the second verse of Blow Whistle Blow? Something that sounds like "... if I do hope to see the sign of rain". Is Rick von Schmidt just mouthing words he didn't understand? Does anyone know who he got the song from? I bought the LP back in the sixties but I've never found the answer to these questions.
I wonder how them true Masters ( like Willie, Muddy, John Lee...) felt about this ..? Hmmm....
????
i doubt if they minded
Leave a dime for 🍺
I'm sure they were happy someone kept the legacy going.
@@RoyFive EXACTLY. This was the folk blues revival.
white guys singing long forgotten black songs , no credit for preservation by black folk, so you lose your own history, the greatest credit to black music ever
