  • A music video / montage I threw together using the song Storm by Yoshida Brothers and the ninja fight scene from Last Samurai. The main idea was to make a visual representation of the fact that a blade moves quickly and smoothly like that of notes in a song. I hope you can see that. If not, I hope you atleast enjoyed watching!

In response to Ian Bolger. Ninja were also trained in infiltration either as musicians, cooks, ashgaru and at times as samurai. In fact some samurai were ninja or more accurately shinobi such as the famous samurai Hatori Hanzo. Ninja also trained in battlefield tactics so your comments are not correct. Let us not forget that even given the elegance strength and flexibility of the technologically advanced samurai Katana it still did stand up well to more machete like like swords such as the Chinese Dao especially when brute force was added. We must remember that though samurai all received martial arts training they still had other rolls to fulfil and once given the basic level of training were then respondsible for there of improvement from then on. Not all samurai were of the same competance and strength with the various weapons as some of the collegues were. Shinobi would still, like all martial skills still have people at various skill levels, but given their very specialized training I am certain they could certainly hold there own if spotted in a one to one dual perhaps even against two opponents or more but they could also succeed with the other weapons and tactics in their arsenal especially as they were not cutailed by a chivalry code such as the samurai followed. Let us also not kid ourselves to the fact that even some samurai would resort to any tactic to win and have run away in defeat. Suicide is much overpaid and romantisized in movies and novels. Daimyos having spent money and years on training their troops, especially their generals would so flippantly give the order of seppuku over some misdemeanor. Thus losing out on a well trained soldier with combat experience.

great fight scene! cruise's character got his cherries busted in this scene.

The timing of this is, well, near perfect. the only area where i think it needed to be synched better was at the end as the scene faded to the cherry blossom trees, and the music was still rather intense.
    that aside, simply gorgeous.

You're missing the spirit of the film, that being that the character Cruise is playing is the reincarnation of a great Samurai warrior of old. He doesn't "suddenly" understand the sword - in time of great peril his spirit REMEMBERS the sword. The nature of a true Samurai come from within.

@shawtyloh Actually durring this period, Ninja were typically less like samurai Esp after Edo If i recall correctly. The shogun had basicaly employed Ninja enforcers and guards.
The thing is, most people assume ninja did a lot of fighting, and like you said, they could, but often didn't. What makes any spec ops unit so deadly is their precise application of violence. They spend a lot of time picking and choosing a target and a means to kill it. Unlike an open battle.

@Black1625 I recall of a family in Japan (about maybe five or more years ago) that had buried one of their elders, possibly the grandfather.
As they were going thru his things, they found a hidden trunk that was locked.
When they opened it... they found his Ninja outfit, weapons and some documents linking him to the gov (local, state, fed - not sure) that he was employed as a ninja, pics, citations, etc.
You should have seen the look on their faces.

What I was saying was a reference. Omura being a wealthy Japanese buisness man, he had the money to hire Ninjas to attack Katsumoto, as Shoguns would have done before him. I guess I didnt write it properly. My bad! And once again, very good montage, go Japan and Japanese culture!

Nicely done! I really like that scene from the film. And to answer all those guys arguing over all this... It was just a movie, never intended to convey a spiritual message or teach a history lesson. And to answer someone else out there, Samurai were a caste. Nobles from other cultures weren't inducted into their ranks. At certain points in Japanese history, anyone with a sword could call himself samurai, but that didn't make it so. Foreigners, gaijin, were not allowed to be samurai.

The ninja was sent by Omura to kill him. Ninjas were great warriors and assasins hired by Shoguns to kill other Shoguns or great Samurai. Very good montage, i like the band, that movie, and Japan itself :)

I read somewhere that upon becoming full fledged Ninjas, they made vow to abandon all honor behind them in order to better serve the will of their Lord. For anything needing honor, there was Samurai, Ninjas really were just assassins and spies. Lol.

  • @Nelogenazea
    @Nelogenazea 15 лет назад

Soldiers during the Civil War obviously used guns more before drawing their sword, and even when they did, it was often among the last things they did.
That, and they used sabre, a blade reminiscient but, when it comes down to it, a totally different weapon than the katana.
It's sorta saying that if you do boxing, you're also able to easily learn, say, Karate or whatever... it's using the same principles yeah, but it is different stuff and it can't be compared.

@perfektgold the ninjas are derivated from the samurais and everyone went to diferent ways, he samusais followed the honor code, in the other hand, the ninjas didn't want to follow it, and made them way, but i'm sure the ninjas aren't faster than samurais, they are equal

LOL sorry I didnt write that properly, my bad! What i meant to say was since Omura was wealthy, he had the money to hire Ninjas to go after Katsumoto, as Shoguns had done prior to him. Sorry if it looked as if I was saying their were more than one Shogun! And again, great montage, very well done! Good Mix!

Like the other guy said...ninja and samurai are derived from the same caste. The difference is their code of conduct and methods of combat. Samurai are the traditional warrior, fighting in the open for fame and glory by traditional means on the battlefield. Ninja prefer stealth and technique, using tools and accessories to strike a vulnerable enemy. Similar classes, but very different in methods and beliefs.

I know but I have 2 points. 1st point is ninjas were trained to go in with pretty much 100% success rate so they would VERY VERY VERY rarely get any casualties and my 2nd point they make them look like honorless assassins when many of them were very respectfull and honorable people who respected their enemies to their death.

The problem is that the Ninja were spotted, lets assume that random Samurai bodyguard didn't notice the Ninja. It would of become a different outcome. In the ways of Stealth and Subterfuge were without equal. However in the ways of warfare, melee and swordsmanship they were always bested by the Samurai.

@xBradums not the same social caste. They are both warriors but the ninja are "dishonorable" there is a misrepresentation of them comin from the same social caste due to some samurai coming up with ideas which would soon be almost the same ideas the ninjas used. The ninjas were taken from the poor peasants in the poor areas of Japan because nobody cared or knew of them.

Are you even Japanese? You realize most of the actors in the movie are Japanese right? Why weren't they offended? Why did Japan allow this 'insult' of a movie to be filmed there then? Why did Japan allow the movie to premiere there and to be played/sold there? Why did so many people buy the movie in Japan?
I could be wrong tho you could be the cultural ambassador for Japan AND the Yoshida brothers.

be that as it may, the normal moviegoer got just that idea. "My gawd, Tom Cruise IS the last samurai... wow, that's clever!" was just one opinion I heard, and it was made in earnest.
sure, landscape and photography are pretty good, but I cringed at Tom Cruise "suddenly" understanding the sword and double-wielding two daitos... it was horrible.

Alright.... I haven't seen the film in a long time, but at what point was this implied? This film had no supernatural touch to it, but how did you reach that conclusion?
If anything, saying that he is a reincarnation undermines the whole point of the movie, which is that even foreigners with due respect for the culture can be accepted there.
And if he could just "remember" it, why in the hell would he have to train then?
That is about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!

  • @AceDelta101

  • @Nelogenazea
    @Nelogenazea 15 лет назад

you mean to tell me that depicting a foreigner, let alone TOM EFFIN CRUISE to be the titular LAST Samurai is not demeaning to the Samurai?
Besides, the whole movie is just Hollywood bullshit, none of that ever happened like they portrayed it to be.
For me, it was just made to stroke Cruises ego by letting him pose with swords, of which he has no clue. I mean darn, learning kenjutsu on the level of a hardened samurai who was taught that from the crib on over the course of one winter? YEAH RIGHT
