amal agarwal go in denon setings- go to hdmi settings to turn on hdmi control and "arc" but TV must have arc and use 1.4 hdmi cable but if still does not work use TV's optic audio output like shown here 0:35 or call Denon "like" if this helps, Tel:201-762-6665

You're a legend I had it all connected but my problem was I was looking to fix the arc through audio settings instead of the TV master settings right down the bottom. So easy if you look through all the menus it's almost impossible to miss.

Thanks folks! You did not cover: Arc/ hdmi hookup will send on air tv sound to the receiver thru the arc/hdmi cable right? Are there tv audio settings that make that work?

    • @TampaTec

In settings, advance features or audio video settings called CEC, hdmi control, anynet+ turn on. Also only hdmi cables 1.4v or later are compatible.

just bought a Sony Surround ht-rt5 and a Samsung 4K UHD.. So do I use the ARC and the Digital Audio wire? I wasn't able to access the setup on the TV for the Sony surround remote. With a combined 500w. I thought the sound (for music) would be stronger. so thought i might have set up something wrong

So you plug in everything into the TV and just by using the ARC HDMI's, they will all be played through the soundbar? Will the sound to those other devices still work through the TV if the soundbar is powered off?

Hey I have a LG 60LA6205 Smart TV and a Pioneer VSX-523-K Receiver. The only input I use on the TV is for the receiver because I connected everything else to the receiver's inputs. I know both of them support arc and I've turned it on for both systems. I still don't get sound. Which input should the receiver be set to in order to play sound when using Netflix or RUclips from the TV?

I used to have a Coby TV model # TFTV3229 and I just bought a Insignia 40" 1080p 60Hz LED TV (NS-40D510NA15) from Best Buy.
I also have a SONY Blue Ray home theater system BDV-E880 that used to work on my COBY TV that I plugged in using an HDMI plug, providing theater surround sound with my tv.
On my new Insignia when I plugged the Sony system into one of the HDMI ports the sound system doesn’t work with the TV mode anymore, I am not even sure if it is compatible.
The sound bar, sub-woofer and speakers on the Sony System work fine when playing a DVD or internet content on the Blu Ray but it doesn’t seem to work correctly with just the TV.
Can this be fixed or is it a TV model problem that will not work due to model types of tv’s.
I am not sure why a less expensive model like the COBY would be compatible and work with the Sony BDV and not the Insignia.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks appreciate your help :)

OMG!!! I was searching the internet looking for this!!!!! You answered the 1 simple question I couldn't find anywhere!! I have a Vizio E601i-A3.........Just bought a cheap RCA bluray HTIAB with only an optical input (only bought it bc it was REALLY cheap from a pawn shop), it sounds decent but I have to hook up the optical directly from the Xbox, because it sounds like crap with the optical coming from the Vizio TV....I heard that you get better surround sound PERIOD through HDMI then Optical........The simple question I had was......If I bought a newer HTIAB like the Sony BDV-E2100 (bc my apt living room listening area is only 10X10)......hooked that up to HDMI 1 (ARC), then hooked my Xbox one to HDMI 2, would I still get my TV and/or my Xbox game's 5.1 through the home theater system?.......

I have no problem with this setup. My question is more towards the receiver. I have a Yamaha RX-V377 and it works fine. However, I notice that when I am watching a moving on Directv, I cannot change any Dolby settings. I press the "SUR DECODE" button on the remote to change, but is just goes to STRAIGHT. Is this normal when using this HDMI & ARC type of setup? I can change the preset MOVIE settings in the receiver but cannot change the DOLBY sound settings unless I change to an AUDIO setting, thus not on the HDMI setting.

The problem with the surround coming from the TV is that they will try to give you only stereo. Personally I think that, especially with a game system, you're better connecting it directly to the AV Receiver. Many receivers allow to output any type of connection through HMDI, whether it's composite, S-Video, or component. Lower quality connections will get upscaled though.

Hi, I have a Samsung f7100 TV, and Yamaha rx-v377 receiver. I can't get sound to come out of my arc port or optical port. I have the cords going thru couplings on the wall, could this be the reason for no sound? I have all of my cords hooked up right, and believe that I set up everything correctly on my tv and receiver. On my tv though, the "receiver" prompt doesn't show up on the "anynet cec " promote like yours does, but on the "speaker settings" "speaker select" menu I can select "receiver" as my output. I'm lost on what to do. Please help me.

Is there a way to change the volume indicator once it's all connected? Once it works using samsung tv and samsung home theater, all you see once you use the volume up/down buttons is an animation. No numeric indicator.
I'd love it to be numeric as it is on the home theater display.
Is there a way to change it?

I don't know if you can help. We just cut the cord and watch over the air TV, Netflix....We have a Yamaha RX-V577 and an LG 65UB9200 TV. We connected the ARC from receiver to TV and made all the changes in receiver and TV but no sound. We gave up trying and then was told to do the optical. We did that and now have the surround sound. The problem is my husband is close to deaf and uses a Sony wireless headset. We have an optical splitter but headset won't work.we have tried the RCA cables from headset to receiver and nothing. I moved headset and connected to another TV and it works. Are we screwed with now not being able to use it with the LG? We did use them when we had cable. Thanks.

Hi! If I am connecting my audio system to the TV via HDMI ARC will I be able to control the volume from the TV? Asking because I don't like to carry 2 remotes with me.
    Thanks!

Arc on tv sometimes disables tv speakers but you can just lower tv speakers volume to 0 if you hear echo from both tv and surround sound.

Yamaha RX-V379 receiver; Insignia TV. HDMI ARC compatible. AV2 default input for TV sound. Always worked over a period of two years. I never heard TV audio, not even once, through the TV speakers. Not a TV watcher here, but once or twice a year. Been six months since the last time I pulled TV audio through my sound system. Now TV audio won't play through the Yamaha. In between times, I hooked up our old VCR so my wife could watch a Xmas movie. I used AV2 as the audio hookups. Obviously, I have disconnected the cables to the VCR! I've gone through everything: Yamaha Setup to make sure HDMI is "ON", ARC, AV2, the TV speakers "OFF" (the Insignia says to turn the speakers off when using external speakers; but I have tried both ways to no avail). If my hair were not butched I'd have pulled it out by now.

Thanks for your help, now I can hear my TV threw my AV Receiver. The Unplug and Plugin method worked for me.
