A lot of ignorant comments about Jonathan... He is IN the remix of this song with Chester, 2 of them created this sick song together, and Linkin Park have mad respect for Korn, it makes perfect sense for him to do the whole song. Jonathan Davis is no doubt one of the greatest metal singer out there. It’s sad to see some ppl trying to make a tribute into competition.
Everyone saying its worse than the original, they should hire a different singer etc etc. This wasn't about making a better version or replacing anyone. This was a free concert (from the artists appearing) to honor, cry, laugh and to think back on the great impact this band and Chester made on people all around the world. I think its safe to say nobody can replace Chester, but that doesnt mean we have to compare all the time. This was more about the band needing this but also the fans.
I'm a KoRn fan first, Linkin second. Jon did great, he flew in and walked to the stage with no building on his part. He got into it on the second verse, it got better. The man flew to this show and back home to sing ONE SONG for Chester. Appreciate the gesture. I could not pay for a flight across the country to sing one song and fly back. This man came to give the fans his appreciation and love. Accept that.
I‘ll never understand people talking shit about a tribute. It’s not meant to be better, it’s not even a competition, just a friend honoring a friend. Same with LP‘s cover of NIN‘s Wish, so many people talking shit even though they just wanted to have fun with a song they like
I think many people here in the comments don't realize Chester and Jon were friends. Jonathan probably didn't want to overpower Chester's vocals so he backed off a bit. Plus yes, it does seem like the mic isn't right lol. Great performance.
That's how you see it? I don't think Jonathan could actually match Chester's vocals. And that's just to show how powerful Chester's vocals were, cause Jonathan can def. put some power when it comes to growls. But I believe the mic was also not a 100%.
Yall do know jonathan was featured on this song at one their live concerts when chester was still alive and kickin right? still on youtube. check it out.
Say what you want about JD. The man didn't have to go on stage and sing and play with his friends, he chose to. This wasn't some million dollar gig where he has to put in all of his effort to sing for thousands this was just friends playing along together in honor of another while playing in front of other people. If they had fun that's all that matters.
Yeah but even though Korn n LP fall under the same genre, I think there styles do not really work together. Having said this, I really like the performance.
Linkin Park fans thinks he didn't learned it, KoRn fans thinks he learned it. I think the only thing that actually matter is that he made it for Chester
I love the voice of Jonathan to death. This is in my opinion the most beautiful voice in the world and he is a pretty man. But Linkin Park is Chester ...and without him this group l cannot imagine. ..There is no replacement for him... There will never be a second Chester... Because he was the only one in the whole world... There are no more like he... This high unusual voice and his kind smile and eyes I will never forget... Love you Chester... My dear friend... I could just picture Dave Williams from drowning pool doing this one if he had have been around. I think Johnathan Davies is amazing but nothing to do with low mic I think he was unsure of the actual verses to the song and also he didn’t want to imitate Chester . But amazing that he showed up to support LP xx❤️❤️
I just realized I've always wanted to hear a Korny version of One Step Closer. Just wish the audio mixing wasn't so bad cause Jonathan Davis fucking rules : /
Chester and Jonathan have different vocal ranges... They could have kinda helped him by tuning down the song JUST a little.. and Jonathan i feel he tried to emulate chester in the verses by singing with a clean voice... If he had sung with his raspy voice like in his song divine for example, in the parts where the verse goes higher like "im saying everything ive said before" that would have been on point
