Where does it say that the Samaritan woman was ever divorced? Could she have been widowed by a man and forced to marry his brother? We don’t know what happened to these men. But in the culture of the time, when women were not entirely free to marry, the man up their own choice, there is a very high probability that this woman might have been forced to have sexual intercourse with five men, whom she did not love. Think about it! And since she could not live alone, and most likely did not have a father or a brother with whom she could live with, it is entirely possible that this sixth man is taking advantage of her in the same way that the first five did. We read this as a story about a woman who was divorced multiple times, But Jesus seems to be addressing her rejection, not the fact that her personality or sin, or whatever you want to call it made it so difficult to live with that men gave her a bill of divorce. Just something to think about. Thank you for sharing!

I heard once that the woman at the well was divorced five times but that may not have been her fault. Women were not allowed to divorce their husbands, but husbands were allowed to divorce women. These men may have divorced her because she was barren. This makes her a huge victim.

I feel in my spirit that you are 100 percent right here. She's barren. She's broken from infertility and the men rejecting her because of it.

There is nothing in the text that indicates the Samaritan woman was in any way sexually immoral.

Women had no choice over who they married. Especially in Samaria only the high priest allowed marriages. None of that was her fault. Women could not be homeless so she was living in a home not as a wife but as a servant. It helps to study Samaritan culture. They strictly held to the 5books even more than Jews. She would have been stoned if she was immoral.

There was no rule about when to get water. If water was needed, they went out and got it. Maybe water had been spilled or someone got dirty and needed to have a bath…

I like your presentation. But everyone seems to assume she was DIVORCED 5 times? She could have been divorced 5 times or widowed some or all of the times. On another note, Jesus was trying to get rid of all the burdensome formulae put upon the people when God just gave 10 rules to follow thus breaking the norm. He also does this in the story of the Good Samaritan. Instead of helping the stricken man the priest and Levite of the Temple avoid him so as not to become unclean.

I have a different take on the woman at the well altogether. "I have no husband" How did she have five husbands that she didn't know about? She knew herself as a Samaritan woman, but Jesus knew her as a soul and was talking about her soul's journey and the many lives her soul had lived on the earth at different times. She was not married and divorced five times in this lifetime but in previous lifetimes. Jesus was speaking of reincarnation. "he who has and ear let him hear."

I’m gonna stop listening for a moment and respond to your question. What do I think about the statement that the woman had five husbands. Perhaps one of her husbands died perhaps one of her husbands realize she did not give him any children or a son and left her and perhaps she was beautiful and charming and a good cook so she could get another husband but maybe she could not have children and they kept leaving her, but I will not think of her as a hussy, and I will not look down at her. I know it was hard for women then and it’s still hard for women now. And in Jesus name, I pray that that all irons out we are not below on the totem pole we are equal we are humans we are made in God’s image and we deserve respect. I won’t go to the lowly thinking about her except to say obviously her life has not been a bowl of cherries , and she’s lucky to be talking to Christ, blessed to be in his presence

You point out the fact how she had five husbands so you have a lot of assumptions you assume that the men left her. It's not stated nor do we have that information for all we know they could have died and so you're assuming that she was hard to live with she was maybe quarrelsome and her husband's left her you're assuming and putting a lot of information in there that's not in the Bible. So at this point I'm going to quit listening to you cuz you put a lot of assumptions in there that's not. And for people that don't know the Bible you would be very misleading to people

Sorry but I don't think the Samaritan women was married 5 times I think she had 5 affairs and the one she is with is not her husband. In those days if women slept or had an a affair with a man was called their husbands. Love your message. God bless.

    • @fulladoubt
      @fulladoubt 2 года назад +4

Is she had only had affairs and not marriage, Jesus wouldn’t say “… thou has had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband:”…I mean He could’ve said “You have had affairs with five different men, and now you’re having an affair with yet another one.” So I think that she was married 5 times as Jesus said.

The Jews hated the Samaritans far more than the Samaritans hated the Jews. Just for information.

Sister don’t be deceived 1 Cor 6:9-10 aduterer will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Luke 16:18 (NKJV) "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery.
Rom 7:2 For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.
Rom 7:3 So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law
Look at the situation of King Herod
Why John the Baptist rebuke king Herod?
Mar 6:17 For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife; for he had married her.
Mar 6:18 Because John had said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife."
    Mar 6:19 Therefore Herodias held it against him and wanted to kill him, but she could not;
Mar 6:20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.
King Herod married Herodias, his brother wife.
Matthew 5:32 (NKJV) But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except fornication causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.
Look at the word for any reason.
Mal 2:16 "For the LORD God of Israel says That He hates divorce
Fornication is a sexual relationship between unmarried person . This is exception for they are not married.
Anyone coming to God should repent. Turn all from their sins.
Eze 18:21 "But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die.
Eze 18:22 None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness which he has done, he shall live.
Marriage is a institution from God
Heb 13:4 Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
Mat 19:6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
If one spouse want to separate . They not to re-marry.
1Co 7:10 Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from her husband.
1Co 7:11 But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to divorce his wife.
The Samaritan woman does not give you a specific answers if she is save. She still have to straighten herself .
Joh 9:31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.
1 Corinthians 14:37 let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord.
    Peace be with you.
