Lmaooo they make it seem like its fast and furious or some shit like that, that guy is taking himself way to seriously. Alleycats are about having fun, building a community and nice relationships, getting to know people, but most importantly having fun. Not this "we are outcasts that risk our lives and the ones of others in the search for freedom" bullshit. "Look at us, we are cool right? because we don't wear helmets and ride fixed" Yeah that's cringey as fuck.
So every alley cat race or racer is the same across the world? "Conventional life is a trap" ... and maybe the conventional alley cat is too for some people. Who are you again?
I think there are two lines of thought here and half-truths. 1. You're right about AlleyCat races. It is not that serious and the most important thing is to build or join a community while having fun. Seek for danger, breaking traffic rules, and riding breakless bikes are just one-upmanship. (These things mean status and every social group has its status codes) 2. But conventional Life is really a trap. And bikes as a lifestyle are one of the most efficient ways to make people learn that life can be different and you don't need to stick to a certain status or standards like having a car, or a "serious" job, that only enslave you, and leave no time to live... When you reject certain values imposed by society you naturally become an outcast and by breaking these chains these people realize life can be simpler.
A friend of mine died in Madrid after a bicycle accident. He wasn't wearing a helmet. After two weeks in coma, he woke up. Sadly, one year later he died becase of the injuries in his brain. Be safe guys, always wear helmet.
Try not to make the rookie mistake crossing red lights in a straight line and open up for the side where the car is going, that's a sure collision. Always attack the intersection diagonally in the opposite hand where the vehicle comes from. In Alleycat you have to surf in the city, imagine you are in a big wave and NOT to do silly sprints as if you were in a velodrome.
This is beautiful. The people complaining that this is reckless simply do not know what they are talking about. And I wonder how many miles they've ever ridden a bike in a major city? So, unless you've done this for years, keep your comments to yourself. The people doing this are more skilled and qualified to be on the road than the vast majority of drivers - because we have to be. When a cyclist makes a mistake, we suffer the most. When a car makes a mistake, drivers suffer the least. I've ridden like this for thousands of miles in NY, LA & SF. The only times I’ve been hit by a car is when I follow the bike laws. And every time I got the same bullshit answer from the driver, "Sorry, I couldn't see you." Then what the fuck were you looking at? When a cyclist catches you by surprise, it’s your fault for being unaware of your surroundings. Because that just as easily could have been a kid running after a ball or a loose shopping cart. So, maybe check your mirrors, put the damn phone down, and learn to drive properly. You’re piloting a 200 horsepower weapon. Act like it. Yes, it is dangerous. We know that, duh. The fact is, it's safer to be seen and hated for running lights or being in the wrong lane, than not seen and killed. And until drivers keep their eyes on the road and take responsibility for their privilege, this is the way it will be. So, if you're worried about hitting a cyclist, take the bus please. Because you shouldn't be driving.
im a delivery rider on the side for a couple years now and those kids just sound like edgy 13 year olds "we are different" "this is our freedom" lmao, no they are endangering pedestrians, if someone takes an unexpected step, boom, lawsuit, its not worth it. When its safe sure skip a red light when no police is around but why in the hell do you remove brakes and lights? if you did this no wonder no one saw you. Also expecting car drivers to see you is asking for a collision, drive like everyone wants to kill you (especially cab drivers), this saved my ass multiple times.
Been riding fixed for 8 years and these are the definition of annoying fuccbois. All their bikes are whack and the fact he said with pride he’s been riding for 2 years made me chuckle.
No gears ,no brakes I understand ,but no lights ? And especially no helmet...? It's just stupid I have crashed in the street and with my helmet on I LIVE to RIDE another day
Some great camera work and editing. So now, with COVID-19 everyone is riding and parts are hard to come by, and people want to have their food delivered to them or errands runs for them.
Nothing against the fixed gear community but when it involves driving against traffic rules and running the red lights, that's just selfish. You're endangering the lives of another and I wouldn't have any sympathy for the rider of the bicycle. Do what you want as long as you don't hurt another human being

You need to make a 2 hour movie about this.

The neighbor kids and I when Need for Speed was cool, but you aren't old enough for cars.

fixed gear community ? :D jeez dude, make it sound like a disabled group that needs government support and funding
Great video guys!! I had good 5 min watching! Thanks
No queremos hacer daño a nadie, salvo al que cruzo con semáforo a favor y se llevó un ciclista
Made my heart pound. Total heroes.

Alright
I didn’t catch the outlaw bit.
If they give up bikes and get into cars we've got a problem.....
Ya need some lights and a helmet. Lemme translate; necesitas luces y un casco. Trabajan en esto de messenger?

Who's to say someone isn't allowed to choose their own freedoms, so long as they hurt no other person whilst doing so.
I rather lose my freedom than take an innocent person's freedom away, it only take one accident with a pedestrian....
That’s becuz you’re lucky.
They don’t help at all bikers community!
