I'm surprised you didn't mention the SDCC exclusive Black Suit Spidey minifig, which has caused no symbiote Spider-Man minifigures to be produced in official sets in the past decade. That one really irks me, considering the black suit is such an iconic design and we have no suitable head to put on Venom's body and legs to even make a custom one.

In my opinion, the single most unacceptable instance of this is the symbiote suit. One of the most iconic suits of all time, as well as one of the most popular both storyline-wise and design-wise, and Lego made it a comic-con suit and has never made another version, when all they would have to do is make a new head print.

Not counting the Raimi movie sets, it's been almost a decade since the modern Lego Marvel line and we've never gotten a Symbiote suit beyond the Comic Con exclusive one. the main downside people say of printing something like a nwh andrew is that it devalues everyone whos got the rare one, but honestly i jsut dont think that matters?? if youve got it theres one of two reasons (or more accurately a mix of the two):
-you want it as an investment
    -you want it as spiderman
and like, if youre buying toys as an investment then im sorry but youre putting the money at risk from the market anyway, i dont feel bad if it goes down from a very predictable move by lego. and if you want it as a cool spiderman, and you think its less cool because now everyone has it, yours is still gonna be unique! i dont think its reasonable to expect the character to never be rendered again because it makes you feel less special

    LEGO forgets it's a children's toy.
It's not about being some 1 of 20 exclusive hand-carved McFarlane statue.
If that's what you want then you start a company and focus on that...
It's a toy. At BEST it's a tool for all to enjoy building _"stuff"._
In BOTH cases, rarity or exclusivity is detrimental to the fan base.
The strongest point for this is, as you pointed out, how LEGO doesn't even make any more money from exclusives or rarities when they LEAP to unattainable price.

To be honest, I see two sides to this. On one hand, it's cool that Lego has exclusive convention exclusives. Will I ever get my hands on one? Probably not. But what really annoys me is definitely that. The fact that they are impossible to get. Especially when they do HEAVILY desired figures like Andrew's Spider-Man, Black Suit Spider-Man, the PS4 Spider-Man, Green Arrow (Who I think was from the CW show) and Spider-Woman. And those figures will never be made into actual sets as to not ruin the value of the convention exclusives.
I'd say either stop making them, or make them more accessible. Because when I go to SDCC, I don't go inside. My family just doesn't have the money for it. I'm just walking around the convention center all day.

The thing about con exclusives is that they're an incentive to get people to go to the event/the Lego booth and in turn, spend money. Like, these events pay Lego to do exclusives, which get people hyped for Lego/whatever it ties in with and more likely to buy Lego in the future. I mean, I saw people say they wouldn't have bothered with DC Fandome if they hadn't done the Supergirl raffle (which I was lucky enough to win, that being the second most valuable thing I own behind the Super7 SDCC She-Ra figure), so it works too.

I like the idea of SDCC having niche sort of figures. But you CANNOT do it with stuff that's so central to a mainstream movie. Like the Spider-Man 3 Symbiote, PS4 Spider-Man outfit, etc. It's one thing to make alternate outfits like the Anti-Ock Suit or Future Foundation Suit being SDCC exclusives, because there's a niche that really wants that kind of stuff, not the general audience.

To me, a Comic Con figure should be something obscure. Either a less common character, or something that Lego wouldn’t do in a set (Deadpool Duck/Cowboy being good examples). The main character from a film series that often gets sets is a good example of a bad CC exclusive. If anything, Spider Man should have been the Toys R Us polybag figure, and Electro should have been the Comic Con one. Because when they inevitably remake the main character, people are less likely to be annoyed
But besides that, it’s a market led price, these figures are only worth what people are willing to pay for them, like art. But that shouldn’t stop Lego being able to remake them at all. Maybe best not to remake them within the first few years of being released, but certainly should be fine after that

Completely agree on this. Lego doesn't benefit from making super rare minifgures so there's no reason to make popular characters rare. I'm fine with them doing rare minifgures as long as the overwhelming majority of people who want them being collectors and not just people who want them. The andrew spiderman has always stuck out as a bad convention exclusive because he's the title character of a movie and no way home makes the problem worse. With the spiderman ps4 suit it's the same and they would easily make more money making it a gift with purchase so there is no financial incentive to do it either. My general rule of thumb is if you are going to make a minifigure, do it based on the comics as long as there is some other easily obtainable version to go along side. The dark phoenix always bothered me since we rarely get xmen character and making that a convention exclusive means there are even fewer for the majority of us. Another figure I feel like you should have mentioned was the taskmasters ambush. I know it wasn't a convention exclusive but I think it would have been had it not been for covid and alot of people outside of the states had to pay high prices to get it. That has black widow in the white suit used for most of the promotional art of the movie and red guardian, a key character of the movie. Its lucky that wasn't as hard to find but even still lego had no initial intention of making it easy to find. I also think they should just do the little sets they do for both dc, star wars and marvel where none of the figures are exclusive but you have something to represent a movie you like. Nobody benefits from convention exlusives except the lucky few who get to go and lego should be enjoyed by the masses.

They've already remade the Dark Knight/Dark Knight Rises Batman twice, the first of these remakes even using the Comic Con print just weirdly enough on the wrong coloured body. Hell even the rare Symbiote suit just reused the Venom torso. There's also the fact that people are more likely to buy unofficial products to fill the void, be they custom prints on official Lego or just straight up knockoffs
Plus with how much Lego printing has evolved in the years since the Andrew figure came out chances are the print will be wildly different.

For the opening of the store, they made a limited edition Lester figure that only had 250 released (I think). Then years later, they just decided to release a polybag and keyring of the figure that's able to be bought by anyone who comes to the store

The one that pisses me off the most is the symbiote spider-man figure, it's such a classic design but it goes for so much when it shouldn't it's just a repaint of the spider-man head with the eyes being all white and venom parts for everything else

Nah, even the TASM2 and PS4 suit aren’t as bad as the biggest offender of all.
THE ONLY GOD DAMN MINIFIGURE OF THE BLACK SYMBIOTE SUIT IN EXISTENCE IS A COMIC-CON EXCLUSIVE.

Pretty sure lego loves the inflated prices of rare figures.. since the designers often get copies of the figures they want.. my guess is a bunch of lego designers have sold their figures for the huge bonuses.
Every toy designer cares about aftermarket value!

I think lego should of definitely not put Andrew's spider-man and ps4 spider-man as a comic con exclusive, because for me I love getting different types of spiderman but I can't get these ones, also symbiote spiderman should not have been a comic con exclusive

I was talking about this with my mate, and to Lego we were saying it doesn’t really matter as they’re not making money on it. We were mainly talking about the tobey suit really. He was saying they wouldn’t remake it as it’s worth too much money at the moment. But what I said was as Lego aren’t earning any money from it right now they might make it so they can make a mint on the hype?

yeah i agree, i feel like rarity should be for more obscure variants of spider-man suits or even just different spider people like when uncle ben becomes spiderman, i think it’s lame to have the main box art hero of a huge movie

I just think exclusive minifigures of this degree are dumb. I don't mind figures being rare or hard to get but comic con figures make it impossible and it sucks, there's already figures that cost to damn much from normal sets everyone could get so I think comic con figs are a stupid idea and they just make it so well never get a version of it for cheap or atleast one that looks like crap in comparison.

...i've always thought that the SDCC exclusives should be characters that generally would never get a minifigure because of their obscurity and most likely would never get another figure again...like maybe Firelord...or a version of a character that will likely never be recreated because they've been in their current form for so long...
...classic purple suit Hawkeye would be a perfect example...

i think they should be the same figures with different packaging. A Comic con figure with exclusive packaging (obviously saying comic con on it), etc. and then release another with simpler packaging like a polybag package as a LEGO store exclusive thats available.

Lego needs to stop making main versions of characters from specific types of popular media comic con exclusive, it’s ridiculous and is not something a company like Funko would do, it’s like if Funko made a ninjago set of vinyl figures and decided to make the green ninja exclusive to an event limited to a few pieces.

  • @playlister_404

I have to agree. The Comic-Con minifigs are too overpriced to be obtainable by nearly anyone on the aftermarket, and if No Way Home sets are ever made given that film's success and good quality, then the Andrew Suit should be remade with more detailed printing and dual-molded legs, which LEGO pulled off with Supreme Sorcerer Spider-Man in the Marvel CMF. As for the Anti-Ock suit, LEGO at least produced a similar-looking figure in the 2021 Spider-Lair, making it a good minifig in an overall bad set that I own.

  • @kaffikupp1

I don’t see the problem at redesigning and releasing a minifigure. They did have the concept art Boba as an exclusive and remade that fig with the Encyclopaedia

It’s disappointing cause there so expensive to get and even if you get a new one it’s still 200 dollars witch is a lot for 1 mini figure they’re good figures but some lack of printing and for something that’s 200 dollars the mini figure isn’t so detailed and I mean now all the comic con ones are like so expensive

I think they should stick to making comic con exclusives if they’re like silly ones
    Not iconic/default
For example if they made a Spider-Man ps4 advanced suit but maybe the glossy edition or something..
or the punk suit Spider-Man .. very few collectors would “fight” for that

  • @batmanfan6207

I generally don't vibe with "exclusive" figs like some I get the gold c-3po etc which are cool novelties but when there's a random variant of a fig only released in one expensive set then I just think its unfair on minifig collectors and the same applies to the comic con exclusives little plastic toys shouldn't be worth 12,000 just cause lego didn't put it in other sets.
