Hi Phil, thank you very much for taking the time to review our Masking Master tool. We truly appreciate the effort you put into creating the video and providing your honest feedback. We noticed a couple of areas where a slight adjustment could significantly improve your experience with the tool, and we'd love to offer some tips that might help. Firstly, it seems there might have been a small misunderstanding in how the core is inserted into the tape roll. This is a common issue and an easy fix! Inserting the core in the manner shown in our tutorial videos ensures it aligns perfectly with the leading edge of the tool, avoiding any deformation of the tape roll. We're confident this adjustment will enhance the tool's performance for you. Additionally, the type of tape used can indeed affect the tool's efficiency. Some brands or types have a special coating that increases friction with the tool's material. Trying a different brand or type with less friction might improve the alignment and overall experience. We've found that this makes a significant difference and would be happy to recommend some options if you're interested. We're here to support you in getting the best possible results with the Masking Master. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need further assistance. We're looking forward to seeing your amazing results! Thanks again for your review and for bringing these points to our attention.
3m hand masker Phil is what we use! I’m so sorry I haven’t responded to your messages on Instagram… I have been working 14 hour days over the last nearly 4 weeks. I love your videos, keep them coming and thanks for your patience. I would not use this tool.
Thanks for this. It's great to see an honest review and I suspect you have hands-on skills. I have just purchased the same tool and await delivery. I now feel my expectation is not a high as I was expecting having watched the "sales" video. (A seller should highlight any potential difficult areas at the point of sale otherwise it will get negative feedback. I think my feelings will be the same as yours. thanks again.
They have been in touch with me and have sent me some different tapes to try. One thing to make you aware of is the way the tape gets fitted on the inner core. do it on a flat surface and press it down evenly onto it. see if that helps you ;)
Definitely looked easier in the ad's. Didn't realise you had to reload each time. That would be a nice margin on a timber bead to get your glass lap, but too much for that window. I will keep doing it with a blade and roll of tape
What I find works especially in this scenario… while holding the tape I use a very thin flexible filler knife about 4” put this between the tape and edge and pull the tape while having it pressed against the knife! Does exactly the same thing and sunny have to load every time… not 100% perfect but does a pretty good job good and minimal tidy up 👌 but great following up vid
I've gotta say, phil. That looks like a load off faffing about to be honest. Any good dec can tape a straight line, i reckon much faster too. I'm pretty quick at it and a purdy 5 in 1 tool pessed down with a quick tare gets me those tight sharp corners no problem. I'd give it a swerve.
Talking about masking. I’ve just bought a Graco GX21 sprayer and wondered if you’ve got a RUclips tutorial on residential spraying g a room, ceiling, walls and trim, masking up and when /should u back roll ?
Quantos milímetros tem que ser o diâmetro interno do rolo de fita? Aqui onde moro os diâmetros internos dos rolos de fita são de quase 3 polegadas. Exatos 76 milímetros!
I think it comes down to what you are using it for. I think for a window...maybe not. But I could see this being very useful in new builds or lower end repaints where we all know the walls are not straight and you need to create a line to make it look cleaner. we all know as painters that sometimes you need to make adjustments on the fly and the fact that it doesn't lay the ends down allow for adjustments to be made at the ends. I think it's a matter of common sense at the end of the day.
Thanks for the great video much appreciated, but it’s a definite no from me I won’t be getting one too much faff I could have done that with much for perfection quicker I will stick to the old method, so you’ve saved me some money 👍🏽 cheers
Looks like too much hassle for me tbh. Are you limited to 1 inch tape only too? The tadpole tape cutters off my paintbrush were one of my best buys when it comes to masking. Worth they weight in gold and some 👌🏻
Hi, Phill, I bought it to try it, you can only use it by leaning it against a wall or floor in the vertical and horizontal parts in the inner corners, it seems to have a limited usage area, it is not practical to use it in the outer corners, moreover, you have to rewind it every time, and it leaves a gab, sometimes you may not want a gap in this way, in addition, you can use it with a one size tape, this is another disadvantage, the logic is good but the cons are too many.I think it should be developed more,,🤔🤔😔
Thanks Phil, i would not gonna buy such a peace of crap. In the comerical video it looks so awesome and so easy to do, but than i saw your result of it, i thought i'd rather do it the old fashion way. 😊
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator yep it's called the 3M 36mm masking tape applicator, about I think they're about £15 or so. Not a bad bit of kit to be fair. I use them for edges of architrave when spraying more than anything.
I honestly couldn't watch the demo completely. I saw the end result and was frustrated for you. I would have that window masked and done in a couple minutes, with very very little gap if it's a new window. A roll of 1.25" tape, a pen knife blade and a hand masker with some 3m plastic masking and tuck the excess under itself any window and then tack it all up. Should take 2-3 minutes on smaller windows.
What an absolute pile of sh!+. TAPE AND GOOD BLADE. utter faff, reload every time, definitely not close enough, time consuming and that price is ridiculous, I'd even doubt £19.99 , let alone £60 . Crazy. DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU'RE A KNOB.
I wish I would seen your video before purchase, spent an hour with mine and achieved a complete mess, tried 5 different sorts of tape and alk rubbish, waste of money
This masking master $75.00 is not worth the price. you can buy something far cheaper. what works better. it is very difficult to work with. it looks easy in the video, but it's not. don't waste your money on this product.
What an epic fail😱 60 squids😱 Too much FAFFING and wastage, just take the time to learn how to mask up. That way you only have one thing to rely on. YOU. Same as sharpening a knife, plane blade etc. Take time to learn the skill and you're done, nothing to lose, nothing to break and replace just get on with the task at hand. Be self sufficient. That comes with a massive sense of achievement. A good place to be. 😉👍
What a bloody faff that is. Seems pointless if I'm honest, applying tape only for it to not actually cover exactly what you need it to cover. I've taped that window up by hand, gone for a dump and come back before someone else has done it with that machine.
Got to 16.45, please do a follow up video of you smashing it up. I'd have perfectly masked up multiple windows whilst you, painfully, used that rubbish.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator In your links there is no such thing as a wonder for applying the tape, so I don't understand why you are posting that video or why you are offering us your link to buy products!

Thanks for the new tapes to try with it.
What about the gap between the frame and the tape? How do you get rid of that?
@@JeffBick-h8o If you're painting wooden windows you want that gap so that the paint creates a seal.
they just explained how, it's all about how you load the tape into the machine.@JeffBick-h8o
Thanks for this. I’ve been in two minds whether to get one. I’m going to save my money. 👍
Glad I could help!

don't worry.
we have two of the 3m. seen in other videos.
Thanks Phil. You’ve saved me £60😂
Happy to help
I have one and am glad I do. As in every aspect of any hand work, the more you do it, the better and quicker you become.
Any tips?
So how do you get it closer and how is it going to help when you need to refeed the tape 🤷
Are you talking about the product??

great product!, when ordering be sure to pick up one of their chocolate teapots aswell!

Hi Phil, I think I’ll save some money. Very fiddly having to rerun that tape every cut. Plus doesn’t go close enough to the edge for me. 👎

Sounds about the same size. Masking master have sent me some of the tapes they use.
What is your opinion of sikkens satura. Primer, and satin external finish.
Yes it's very good.
It's a two top coat finish.
But oil based and we don't use much of that these days.
👍
When did Ricky Gervais become a painter?
When COVID hit and office work moved to home working and a career change had to happen?
Use a smaller window. That way the demo would of been even harder to fathom out you don’t just apply with fingers in half the time
Feels very much like a solution looking for a problem.
tape roll & spool need to be put on flat surface to make sure you get better gap to edge as show in their videos 🤔
Masking Master have been in touch and said the same. TNX for commenting and clarifying it.
Looks like a nightmare to use tbh Phillip. Not that you’ll catch me taping windows anyway! 😂
you will when you spray them later this year ;)
lol
I can hear the ice cream van in the background, get us a whippy buddy

I'd be more interested in which tape you recommend.

Phil off topic but i cant find the 4 1nch sleeves you done a video on , i was going to invest in them just cant remember the make?
The two fussy blokes? Or the Pro Dec?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator not sure 1 sleeve was good for getting paint on and the finer one was better finish but same make

The fact it’s £60 is barbaric
Got one in November 23 used once it’s dog shit
It may be better used in long runs -- say 3ft or longer.

maybe.

I imagine it’s made more for skirts and frames? Where that gap might be not too bad… on certain skirts anyway.
for us though, in the UK... how wide is the top of 'most' skirting boards?
and what if you walls run out a bit?
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator well yeah exactly, hence why Iv never bothered getting one
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator similar deal just running the tape along the wall on top the skirts.
No thanks it takes too much time and its not close enough
No I wouldn't buy it but definetly an ice cream . He was desperate to sell you one.
It's should sell for 15, 20 bucks. It's plastic for the love of God.
The time it took to tape that window, you could have just cut in . As a painter for 35 yrs I would say no to that .
