Gajalee, Mumbai’s Favourite, Most Popular Seafood Restaurant, Best Bombay Duck Mumbai, Best Seafood Mumbai, Most Popular Seafood Mumbai, Best Tandoori Crab Mumbai, Best Seafood Restaurant In Mumbai Stuffed Bombil Fry, Bombil Fry, Bombay Duck Fry, Randoori Crab, Indian Salmon Rawas Curry, Fresh Seafood, Bombay, Seafood, Lunch, Dinner
Gajalee is perhaps Mumbai’s most popular seafood destination. When here, its fresh seafood offerings, from the signature stuffed bombil fry, prawns koliwada, plain bombil fry, rawas curry to the splurge worthy tandoori crab are a ritual for many of its regulars. I make the most of a quick visit to Mumbai to catch an indulgent seafood feast here and film this GOTR Raw episode. Enjoy!
    PRAWNS KOLIWADA
These sea prawns are fresh, well seasoned and encrusted in a crunch rice flour batter. Smother it with the ginger garlic chutney if you like it spicy.
    Rs. 425 (USD 5.6)
    8.5/10
    STUFFED BOMBIL FRY
If you were to try only one dish at Gajalee, this would be it. The delicate, watery bombay duck is rolled around a spicy shrimp mixture, dipped in a batter and fried. The fish retains its moistness despite being fried and the shrimp adds flavour.
    Rs. 400 (USD 5.3)
    10/10
    Bombil Fry
The Bombay Duck is simply seasoned, dredged through a rice batter and fried. Yet another dish to try here. You can quite literally taste the ocean in this preparation.
    Rs. 325 (USD 4.3)
    9/10
    TANDOORI CRAB
It’s a bit of a splurge, but you definitely get the ‘meatiest’ bang for your buck! The crab was fresh and plump in its meat. I was worried that the tandoori masala would overpower the flavour of the crab, but that wasn’t the case. You could taste the sweetness in the flesh, and the gentle edge of the tandoori marinade.
Rs. 2957 (USD 39)for a one kilo crab
    10/10
    Rawas Curry
A creamy Malwan style curry, flavoured with the sour twang of kokum. The rawas or Indian salmon was soft and had absorbed the flavour of the curry. Best eaten with the ghavne, lacy pancakes made with a runny rice batter.
    Rs. 425 (USD 5.7)
    8/10

That size of mud crab costs around 700-800/- a KG... Considering all 2k is a reasonable price max., 2957/- is too much. I visited Gajalee in Pune 3 times, but didn’t taste crab by seeing that price tag. Clicked the pics of live crabs only 😁.. Tasted bombil, mandeli, surmai, prawns, lobster so far at Gajalee. There are other good seafood places to try in Pune namely Nisarg, Fish Curry n Rice and Mahesh Lunch Home. While Gajalee is into Malvani style, Mahesh lunch home is into Mangalorean style. Fish curry n rice is a Kolhapuri Malvani mix. Got a good deal for the mud crab once at Mahesh lunch home,Pune and had it.

Aww so you are a Bombayite! Ville Parle Gajalee is where it all started. Every 3rd/ 4th day my meal used to be there since my office was in the neighborhood. All that you have hogged today used to be my favoured meal too PLUS Pomfret slices!
    Good seafood binge Kirpal..!!!

I have tried those fried pomfret slices earlier and they are delicious. In fact I was quite tempted to try the pomfret that came on the seafood tray, but it would have been too much for us. 😋

It's mouth watering. You got my appetite going. Next time I visit Mumbai I will definitely try Bombil and crab. It's always entertaining yet informational to watch your episodes. Respect your presentation and love for food. Still isn't the crab too exorbitantly priced? And it looks you are little uncomfortable or off mood. Keep eating and stay healthy.

    • @FoodLoversTV
      @FoodLoversTV  4 года назад +1

Hi Kalyan, the bombil and the crab are definitely a must-have depending on one's budget. I agree, the crab is pricey, but thats what restaurants seem to charge for large mud crabs which are way more expensive as compared to sea crabs.

Hi Srinivasa, it is similar in the sense that both are made from a rice batter. But the ghavan doesn't use coconut milk like the neer dosa, I was told.
