Bonanza is an American Western television series. The show is set in the 1860s and centers on the wealthy Cartwright family, who live in the vicinity of Virginia City, Nevada, bordering Lake Tahoe. The title "Bonanza" is a term used by miners in regard to a large vein or deposit of silver ore, from Spanish bonanza (prosperity).

I loved Bonanza! Also Wagon Train, Laramie, Gunsmoke, Branded and of course the Lone Ranger! I grew up wanting to be a cowboy, which was rather difficult here in the UK. Living on pig farms but I had some great locations to act out my imaginary gunfights and 'stunts'. When my dad moved over from pig farming to cattle when I was eight years old, I got the chance to actually 'Head 'em up and move 'em out!' (all the way to the dairy for milking!). I never burnt a map in the name of my Bonanza moments, But show me a big puddle or a stream and I had to gallop through it! (no horse of course!) and in Gloucetershire from the age of three, I discovered my 'Hi Ho Hills' for when I was the Lone Ranger!

Lorne Greene was Canadian and was well known as a radio news broadcaster during World War 2 before moving to the US. In 1965 my city in Saskatchewan, Canada put on an outdoor variety show called 'Gala Night Under the Stars' and Lorne Green was the host for it. He wore his Bonanza cowboy outfit and it was really something to us kids seeing "Pa Cartwright" up there on the stage. A fond memory for sure.
